[SPOILERS] Exclusive back story for Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- shown at Kingdom Hearts Concert -First Breath-

Jake

On August 11, 2016, the first official Kingdom Hearts concert was held in Japan, called Kingdom Hearts Concert -First Breath-. Fans who attended the event were treated to orchestrated music from the Kingdom Hearts series. Voice actors for Terra and Namine (Ryōtarō Okiayu & Iku Nakahara, repsectively) were in attendance. Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series, said "something was in the works" about a week before the concert concerning the voice actors. Something indeed was in the works!

Exclusive back story, which will not be included in-game for Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, was reenacted by Terra and Namine's voice actors, exclusively for attendees at Kingdom Hearts Concert -First Breath-. This contains heavy spoilers, so read below at your own risk.

Thanks goes to @aibo_ac7 for providing information concerning the exclusive back story, @r_kane1 for providing a summary of the information, and Kayla Copeland (nichiei.translations@gmail.com) for translating the full dialogue.

1st: Okiayu (Terra) and Nakahara (Namine) reenact some KH scenes.

2nd: Okiayu (Terra) voiced his lines as Lingering Will. Namine (Nakahara) meets some kind of darkness and speaks to it.

Namine talks about her arrival at Lingering Will. She had known about the confrontation between Terra and Xehanort. Namine and Lingering Will's conversation goes something like this (not exact wording):

LW: This is...

Namine: This is the world of your memories. In this point of time, you've forgotten where you belong, and you've followed the memories of those you're connected to and came here.

LW: Who...are you?

N: It's nice to meet you. I'm Na-- ...a witch who can control memories.

LW: A witch...?

Namine: Right now, you are caught between two memories. One is your very own memory. The other is that of a very great darkness.

LW: Master... Xehanort...

Namine: Soon you will touch a familiar light. She will guide you so that you do not get lost in the darkness.

LW: She... Aqua! But, I can't do anything as I am now...

Namine: Everyone is fighting now in whatever way that they can. You too, you must believe in yourself, that you will not be lost in the darkness, and fight. Because the place everyone will arrive to is the same...

LW: Aqua... Ven... Someday, I will absolutely...

("The Unknown" is playing)

LW: I haven't forgotten a thing from that day. I'll get there, without fail.

Through this conversation with Namine, Lingering Will remembers Aqua and Ven.

Nomura then revealed that this is a story that takes place shortly before 0.2. He also said that this conversation between Lingering Will and Namine is a treat for concert-goers today, and it won't appear in the game.

UPDATE: This conversation is transcribed inside of the official Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - guide. It has both the Japanese conversation, and the conversation translated to English. It turns out this conversation was not between Lingering Will and Naminé, but it was actually between Terra and Naminé. View the conversation below with the official English translations thanks to @jsjunshen:

Naminé: Don't worry. You might forget about me . . . but with our promise I can come back. Yes. One day the light--it will be ours, and it will bring us together. And then--I'll be in your heart.

Sora: Right. Forgotten--but not lost.

Lingering Will: Aqua . . . . Ven . . . .

A Keyblade? Who are you?

I know you. We've met before, way back when. No, that wasn't you. You're not the one I chose. Where is he? Xe . . .ha . . .nort . . . . Is that you? Xeha . . . nort . . . . Xehanort!

Lingering Will: That's it. your Power

That's what I felt within you.

The power that conects to Aqua.

And to Ven's heart.

Terra: Where am I . . . ?

Naminé: In your memories. Traces of you were lost, so I found you through memories belonging to those you've met in the past.

Terra: Who are you?

Naminé: I'm Naminé. It's nice to meet you.

I'm a witch who can control peoples' memories.

Terra: A witch?

Naminé: Right now you're bound to two memories. One belongs to you, the other belongs to an unspeakable darkness--

Terra: . . . Master Xehanort.

Naminé: Your heart will soon encounter a familiar light. You must make sure she isn't lost to the darkness. You must guide her.

Terra: Her? You mean Aqua? I'm not sure what I can do to help, not like this.

Naminé: You must fight, Terra, like the others. You mustn't let your heart melt into darkness; follow your true memories, and you'll reach the light. She's headed there, too--to the same place. You must believe in promise, just as she continues to believe in you.

Terra: Aqua. Ven. One day I'll--I've never forgotten our promise. Never. I will keep fighting.

I don't know how to feel about this conversation. It just seems very random since Naminé has never met Terra and her saying that she will come to save him just doesn't sit right with me. I have nothing against her, and she could have just said that as a heads up, but I still think it should not be her to save him.

(It's basically the same issue I have with Mickey calling Terra a friend even though he's never met him or even talked to him.)

Either way, thank you for working on this! Even if we cannot listen to it, it's great to have this translation.

The story sounds quite interesting! You would've thought somebody would be smart enough to sneak in a sound recorder and record the audio in some way. xD

It sounds like regardless you have knowledge of this segment or not, it will not significantly impact on your comprehension of what will happen in KH2.8.

Wait what? I am not that excited about it, more puzzled than anything really. I mean Naminé knows Terra from when she was rewritting Sora's memories, at the end of Chain of Memories. Okay. But how the heck did she contacted him?

Golly, that's so random. When did Naminé met this "darkness" and why the heck would anyone talk to a blob of darkness or whatever? Plus, if Naminé talks to it, that means she did it before KHII's end... Right? Or does it mean she will be restored at some point of KHIII? Alongside Roxas and Xion then?

... Damn it Nomura, you succeded in making everything more complex than it was before!

While I do find this to be very interesting, I do think it's stupid to keep this thing exclusive to the event and not be a part of the game, considering this seems very important.

Now with that out of the way, I shall now give my thoughts on the scenario. *plays horns and drums*

According to Nomura, this takes place shortly before 0.2. That means that this takes place before Mickey catches up to Riku in Castle Oblivion and possibly before Sora defeats Marluxia, though I think it takes place while Sora is asleep. Namine' was arranging the memories of Sora and according to Data-Namine' in Re:Coded, Namine' had found memories within Sora that don't belong to him. These memories most likely belonged to Ventus, since his heart was/is still inside of Sora.

Now with this in mind, this may have somehow affected Terra, or in this case the Lingering Will due to him being Ventus' friend. This may be a situation similar to, but maybe not exactly, when everyone who was connected to Sora forgot about him. Maybe because of this similar situation, the Lingering Will remembered Aqua and Ventus.

But this does make me question why the Lingering Will forgot about Aqua and Ventus. Was the action of Namine' affecting Sora's memories and those connected to him in Chain of Memories repeated to Ventus as well, even though his heart is asleep?

They've been flashing "reconnect" to us for years, I'm not surprised nor bothered about these two characters interacting. The point of KH III is merging all stories into one, I honestly would be really bored if they kept the same set of characters interacting only with their already established friends.
What is this, first day of high school?

Regarding of when it happened, it's a puzzle. It could be anywhere and I have theories, but if the text is still being translated I should wait on those.
About HOW, instead... well, Nobodies and LW are quite similar creatures. It is possible Xehanort thought of LWs when developed the Nobodies plan, and both are beings depending on "Will" (not Turner). Plus Xemnas is also connected to No Heart armour and they share the symbol.
So who knows? This might be another link between them.

Okay, this translation is really different and adds a lot. Also clarifies some shady stuffl ike Naminé actively saving Terra and where were them.

I think Mickey never saw him there. That's also how they sorta explain him not realizing Apprentice Xehanort was Xehanort in Terra's body. He didn't even know what the guy looks like.

From memory, there is no track on any of the KH soundtracks titled 'The Unknown'

Do you mean 'Fate of the Unknown'?

Or is 'The Unknown' a new track that we have yet to hear?
