Hashimoto & Nomura state their plans for 2016 to Famitsu; Nomura says Kingdom Hearts III is in a significant time of development

In the most recent edition of Famitsu Weekly, Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as Shinji Hashimoto, executive producer of the Kingdom Hearts series, have stated their future plans for 2016 and beyond. Tetsuya Nomura is continuing to work on titles such as Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, & World of Final Fantasy, titles that are set to release in 2016. The progress for those titles and more are going smoothly and Nomura hopes to get those two titles within the scheduled arrival date.

 

Other big titles Nomura is working on is Kingdom Hearts III & Final Fantasy VII Remake, where they are currently in a significant part of development, and when Kingdom Hearts III is further in development, PR will release more information to the public.

 

Shinji Hashimoto hopes to continue challenging himself and he has a surprise project he is hoping to announce this year. Additionally, Hashimoto hopes to offer more surprises throughout 2016 in general.

Nomura: Development of World of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is the highlight, and PR for those 2 titles will start to pick up. We are moving into an important period for Kingdom Hearts III and FINAL FANTASY VII Remake development. As in previous years, this year will be one dedicated to development, but I think we’ll be able to share some news and do some PR. For other projects that I’ve continued to be involved in, be it arcade, smartphone, or otherwise, I am working hard to deliver contents that will prove to be even more enjoyable.

 

Current status:

For the 2 titles that are nearest to launch, development is progressing favorably, and they will most likely arrive as scheduled. Before all else, I would like to express to fans the appeal of World of Final Fantasy.

 

Hashimoto: While keeping in mind the changes of the times, I constantly strive to challenge myself. In 2016, I hope that we’ll be able to offer even more surprises to you all. Also, we will boldly draft plans for a new project, and we hope to be able to present it. In addition to this new project, we want to take on new, global challenges. I humbly ask for your support during this year as well.

I don't wanna be "that guy," but simply because the game is in a significant phase of development doesn't necessarily mean a 2017 release. Of course, it's highly likely but not entirely confirmed or expected.

 

EDIT: On a more positive note, though, this is great news for KH3. Perhaps if they up the PR, we might get to see small glimpses of new stuff.

FF15 started it's promotion stuff in 2015, a year before the scheduled release. So we may see KH3 more this year for 2017.

Sure it says that in the trailers but the description for both the 2.8 trailers say 2016 and the NA Twitter Kingdom Hearts page said 2016 when they released the Jump Festa trailer. 

 

Hearing that KH2.8, KH3, and the FFVIII Remake are all being developed according to plan and going to crucial parts of development is nice to hear.  Also hearing that PR for the latter two tittles will be picking up soon is great to hear as well

I'd actually be up for that if they made Days and Re:coded playable and gave the first game a Theater Mode. But it's not happening. He's said over and over again that there are no plans to port those to PS4 and that 2.8 will be the last game before KH3.

Well you know 2.5 also said "now in development" for both Japan and America. I am 100% positive its coming out at the end of 2016 for America. Most likely in November, maybe December. Also the 2.8 trailer for Japan still says "now in development" because they don't have a release date for either country yet. For the main Kingdom Hearts games we usually get them a few month after Japan, but the mobile ones... Thats an entirely different story...

Yeah, I know that it hasn't been confirmed that the game will come out next year, but I have a feeling in my heart telling me that it will indeed come out next year!  It'll be the 15th Anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series by then, so this game needs to come out next year! X_X  Oh God, I want more news!!!

 

 People said the same thing for 2015 and 2016.

Lol, yeah, I know, but a guy can dream, right?  And besides, next year, as I explained to Rocketboy above, is the 15th Anniversary of Kingdom Hearts!  What better way to celebrate than releasing Kingdom Hearts III!?
