Hashimoto & Nomura state their plans for 2016 to Famitsu; Nomura says Kingdom Hearts III is in a significant time of development

I wish they would stop giving Nomura new games to make. I thought he would be done after 2.5 so he could just focus on kh3 hopefully it comes out next year but I'll be surprise.

"Nomura feels that they may release those two titles even earlier than originally scheduled if anything."

 

He does not say this nor imply it.

If 2017 really was going to be the release date, we would have already seen the same level of promotion for KH3 as we've seen for FF15. I don't have hope for that release date. Early to mid 2018 is my new bet.

I might have laughed wryly at this.

So we're getting 2.8 this year and KH3 (probably) in 2017, today is a great day to be a Kingdom Hearts fan.

I don't wanna be "that guy," but simply because the game is in a significant phase of development doesn't necessarily mean a 2017 release. Of course, it's highly likely but not entirely confirmed or expected.

 

EDIT: On a more positive note, though, this is great news for KH3. Perhaps if they up the PR, we might get to see small glimpses of new stuff.

FF15 started it's promotion stuff in 2015, a year before the scheduled release. So we may see KH3 more this year for 2017.

Sure it says that in the trailers but the description for both the 2.8 trailers say 2016 and the NA Twitter Kingdom Hearts page said 2016 when they released the Jump Festa trailer. 

 

Hearing that KH2.8, KH3, and the FFVIII Remake are all being developed according to plan and going to crucial parts of development is nice to hear.  Also hearing that PR for the latter two tittles will be picking up soon is great to hear as well

Sadly, this is likely true.  The last 2.8 trailer was lazily done on the English side (they didn't even bother to put the English DDD voice overs in like the first trailer), but they made it clear as day that the game is "Now In Development".  This likely means that 2.8 is coming out no earlier than October in Japan.

If KH3 and FF7R Episode 1 do release in 2017, they will most likely both have events revealing the release dates just like the one that FFXV is about to have in March

I can't wait for HD2.8 to be done and I can't wait until they start showing off KH3. Awesome!

I'd actually be up for that if they made Days and Re:coded playable and gave the first game a Theater Mode. But it's not happening. He's said over and over again that there are no plans to port those to PS4 and that 2.8 will be the last game before KH3.

Well you know 2.5 also said "now in development" for both Japan and America. I am 100% positive its coming out at the end of 2016 for America. Most likely in November, maybe December. Also the 2.8 trailer for Japan still says "now in development" because they don't have a release date for either country yet. For the main Kingdom Hearts games we usually get them a few month after Japan, but the mobile ones... Thats an entirely different story...

Yeah, I know that it hasn't been confirmed that the game will come out next year, but I have a feeling in my heart telling me that it will indeed come out next year!  It'll be the 15th Anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series by then, so this game needs to come out next year! X_X  Oh God, I want more news!!!

Lol, yeah, I know, but a guy can dream, right?  And besides, next year, as I explained to Rocketboy above, is the 15th Anniversary of Kingdom Hearts!  What better way to celebrate than releasing Kingdom Hearts III!?
