Kingdom Hearts III's Big Hero 6 world detailed by series' director Tetsuya Nomura in Famitsu Weekly interview

Recommended Posts

Towards the end of his interview with Famitsu Weekly, Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura gave some details about what the atmosphere of Big Hero 6's world will feel like. Sticking with tones from the movie, Tetsuya Nomura describes it as a world set in the near future but in a cityscape that doesn't feel much different than modern times. He also explains that the heavy action aspect of the movie as well as the fun themes are what made Big Hero 6 stick out as a great choice for a world in Kingdom Hearts III.

You can read the quote below, thanks to KH13 News Team member soraspromise.

KH2.8” leads to “KHIII”, and the other day “Big Hero 6"’s world was announced with great applause.

Nomura: Because it was the most recent world decided, there was not a lot I could tell but I’m glad the guests were excited. Big Hero 6 is from the near future but in a cityscape with a modern feel and the sheer amount of action and fun are what made it a clear choice for me.

He also discussed the original Baymax left in the portal at the end of the movie that is taken over by Heartless, first shown in concept art during Big Hero 6's world announcement at D23 Expo 2015 in Anaheim, California. He also revealed the he, as well as co-director Tai Yasue, are both very excited about this dark version of Baymax.

As a synopsis, the original Baymax is dyed black because it is controlled by Heartless, and Sora is flying on Baymax as they meet face to face.

Nomura: Right. Ours will talk about after the movie. Black Baymax was the result of Yasue (Co. Director Tai Yasue) reacting “I absolutely want to do this!”. Because I am also pleased with this, please look forward to the finished result.

Knowing that the events in Big Hero 6's world will take place after the movie, what do you hope to see in Kingdom Hearts III's Big Hero 6 world? Let us know in the comments!

I don't mind what worlds appear in KH3, I already know that I won't know most of them (and also, I liked beeing surprised by the worlds I see and explore). I've never been a great fan of Disney (actually, I've always disliked Disney except for Pirates of the Caribean), I guess this shows how good Kingdom Hearts really is; if people who don't like Disney like KH so much, that only means that KH is a great game.

Well I guess I need to watch the movie now.

Watch it, It's a movie about coping with bereavement disguised as a superhero movie.

Im suprised there are people who still havent seen the film, (after all, its Disney Animation's third most successful film)

I suppose the people who haven't watched it are the "Final Fantasy" fans of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Not really, I usually watch new disney movies immediatelly after release, but this time I guess I wasn't too much into it.

Some more character development with the side characters might make the fans like the movie a little more.

just more character development for side characters in general.

In the original movie, the side characters didn't have that much development as the directors did not want to divert away from the core mechanics of Hiro and Baymax. Most Disney side characters are purposely shoved to the side. Regardless, I'd love more side character development in general too.

I understand why they did this in the film of course, but in a game there is a much longer running time, and much more time to develop the characters.

I think it would be interesting if we actually had moments where the party split up every so often at points similar to how in 9 at certain points the party would arrive in a city or town and they would all split up, and go do their own thing. You could go find each of them, and talk to them during this, but there were als short little cutscenes that you could cut to to see what they were doing.

The closest thing we have to this is when we're in a save zone, Donald and Goofy stand around and you can talk to them.

I understand though that this doesn't really work for kingdom hearts though because unlike final fantasy where a whole city could be your safe zone where you wouldn't get attacked with kingdom hearts you only have small rooms

I look forward to the final result.

You would know best of course because, well, you know who you are.

Yeah, I'm the real Slim Shady.

I wonder if Mr. Yama is going to be in Kingdom Hearts 3?
