Executive producer Hashimoto talks Kingdom Hearts III progress

IGN have posted an article containing snippets from an interview with Shinji Hashimoto, the executive producer of the Kingdom Hearts series, where he discusses Kingdom Hearts III and the progress that has been made with its development. You can read these snippets below.

"Having Tetsuya Nomura as director for both projects [(Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III)] would obviously have an impact [on their release timeframes]."

 

"So at E3 this year we announced Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV. Both have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can’t create these two big games at the same time."

"It’s a difficult job, as we want each game to be perfect in terms of quality."

When asked why Square Enix decided to announce the game this year if significant progress hasn't perhaps been made, Hashimoto explained that the company thought it was about time it addressed speculation about the long-awaited conclusion to the trilogy.

"A lot of people have wondered for the last couple of years if Square Enix has actually been working on Kingdom Hearts III; that’s why we announced it at E3 this year. But please, we need you all to understand that there’s a lot to do."

And i tottaly understand the pressure upon them! They had to announce KH3 anyway this year... But if I have to wait a little longer to get freakin KH3, I can wait

I really thought they annouced it early how can someone say this after all this years  because I rather they only did it when the game was far ahead in development but not gonna lie, I loved they did. FF 15 + KH3, the two most awaited titles, together with ps4 new information made this my favourite E3 so far. Much time pass since i got that hyped.

 

im not seeing KH3 coming out before 2016 (Q3/Q4 2015 at least...in japan) But its okay because i want a "perfect" game to finish this saga. And square know how fans are hyped for this. I trust them and give them the time they want.

 

Besides i reached the point where im more hyped for 2.5 than KH3. Not only is closer but BBS Final Mix + KH2 Final Mix in the same package?! sorry 1.5...

Dont worry guys..we all know that Tetsuya Nomura loves Number 13.Think about it..Organisation 13,Sora-Riku-Kairi 13 letters,Roxas-Xion-Axel 13 letters too..kingdom hearts 13 letters...13 floors at castle oblivion e.t.c. so 13 years after the first games's release(2002) is 2015..so Kingdom Hearts 3 should release two yars from now...Yeahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I expected KH3 no earlier than 2015 before, now I'm leaning more towards 2016-2017 if FFXV doesn't come out in the next 12 months.  Another thing to keep in mind is if a FFXV sequel is fast tracked that could slow KH3's progress even more

I totally agree!! I had also thought about that and it seems logic since it has been in development for 3 years now, I think 2 more are enough, I really hope soo :D

I expect 2.5 next year around this time. With Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth By Sleep, and Re Coded cut scenes data not lost, it should be easier to make. Now in Kingdom Hearts 2 there was a lot of no dialogue at times lots of text writing in some worlds that I think they will add some voices to. This collection will be really, really, good.

I though the most was done in FFXV as we saw much trailers of it.

I was thinking that FFXV could be released end 2014 end KH3 end 2015 in Japan.

It wouldn't. A completely different team is working on KH3 that does nothing but develop KH games, and they're pretty much just as large as the FF team. It's coming out in 2015. Nomura promised us 1 game a year, and that the ReMIXes are the only games coming out before KH3. So 2.5 next year, then KH3 the year after.

Fine by me, I'd rather wait a long time for a perfect game than have a rushed game with a lot of things wrong with it. I'm just happy they announced they're in development. I guess one should assume that but eh. At least we got some news on it, I'm glad about that. Take the time you need SE, make KH3 the best game in the series!

If it was 5 years of focused development I'd agree, but let's keep in mind this team helped out on Re:Coded in 2010, and worked on 3D up until 2012 (which they said they poured a lot time and resources in to make it out for the 10th anniversary) so obviously KH3 didn't become the primary focus until at least after 3D was released.  Also everything Nomura said after E3 suggests they are still coming up with concepts for the battle system and only started the process of selecting worlds, meaning they still have a very long road to go and it's on new hardware (granted much more developer friendly hardware but new nonetheless).
