Nintendo recently released

for their new console, the Switch. While there was no footage of Kingdom Hearts III or Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue within the teaser, Nintendo has released a graphic showcasing many of the console's third-party partners, where Square Enix can be seen. Additionally, as shown in the teaser, Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was showcased extensively, so Nintendo seems to be embracing third-party developers much more than in previous console generations.

Update: Epic Games, one of the partners for the Switch, has confirmed that Nintendo's newest console will have Unreal Engine 4 support. This is the same engine used for Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, and the engine that Kingdom Hearts III is being developed with.

We've known Square Enix was developing for the Switch for a long time now, Dragon Quest X and XI were both confirmed a while back. Really hoping I can play those on the Switch.

Yeah, what Shulk said. It's pretty much been a given that SE will develope games on it. But I will admit, seeing a KH game on a home console for the first time would be pretty interesting.

Still noteworthy, none the less. Not saying KH will appear on the Switch, but it's possible.

That was pretty cool, I have so many questions about the system! I do hope that this means we might get KH games on the Switch that are of the same quality as the console titles someday. I mean Square being on the list doesn't necessarily guarantee KH on the Switch, but there's still a good chance depending on what Square and Disney want to do in the future. Also I will point out that while Disney does own the KH ip, Square is ultimately the developer, so I believe that's the only reason we don't see Disney placed on there as well. And even then, it's not a permanent list, if anything it's just a list of partners for projects that are already underway, it's more than likely that they will welcome other third party developers/producers when they come up with other new projects, so never say never.

I know, that was mostly directed for those that didn't know. Just letting people know that Enix has already confirmed games for it.

Thanks for this article, Raxaimus!

Hmm, wow, it's amazing to see that so many of these companies are backing the Switch! This console could end up having a good gaming library!  And I'm sure we can expect lots of games from Square Enix, that's for sure! :D

This is very interesting indeed! :3

It's obviously compatible with Wii U games... Is it a next gen console or just a portable Wii U though? AND CAN IT RUN SDCAFIINE?!

This is considering if Nintendo would even put backwards compatibility. If I recall correctly, the Switch will have cartridges, much like the DS line. So, I doubt they'd have backwards compatibility. Only solution is the eShop or some accessory to allow it to read CDs, which would likely be somewhat overpriced. So, eShop is best way. I'd love to see Wii U games on the Switch, there are some games I want, but I might just skip the Wii U and get a Switch.

The Switch is basically confirmed BC by the trailer. Literally all of the games currently on Wii U are seen on it, including Breath of the Wild, Splatoon and the like. What's more, it doesn't look at all like an upgrade to graphics-it's definitely Wii U caliber games in their original form,

I dunno about all games being cartridge though... I doubt Nintendo would make so many of those Wii U games for cartridge. I speculate there's a disc reader even in the tablet form'

That Splatoon might be a sequel or a remaster for the Switch

Breath of the Wild wasn't Wii U exclusive anyway

The switch is practically why Breath of the Wild hasn't released for at least the Wii U yet

Touché.

Hmmm... I'll take a look at that trailer again. I edited my last post too

Doubt there will be a disc reader

Especially looking at the device in the teaser, it looks too small

Maybe the dock, but that's unlikely as well

That'd be a bummer (But I just want Smash and Wind Waker HD anyway).

Can't wait till next Direct.

There will definitely be a Smash. Smash has been on every Nintendo console (obviously excluding the GameBoy line and original DS line) since the 64. Maybe not at launch, but there will be one. As for Wind Waker, eShop is our only hope now.

If Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and Persona 5 end up on the Nintendo Switch then I am not going to buy a PS4 slim. I'm so intrigued by what the revealed games are going to be...

Personally, it's a guarantee that Kingdom Hearts III will be on the Switch. Square Enix is a Japanese company, and believe it or not, the Wii U sold on par with the PS4 in Japan anyway.
