  1. Saying that zootopia could be in kingdom hearts 3 is just like saying Moana could be in kingdom hearts 3. These movies are just way to recent to be in kingdom hearts 3,unless Disney let SE borrow assets from zootopia while the movie was in development, which I don't see happening, don't expect it to be in kingdom hearts 3. I mean, the setting for the world is perfect for kh gameplay wise because there are different sections of zootopia the player could traverse through, but storywise it wouldn't really fit kh at all. I'm not saying it wouldn't be good as a world for kingdom hearts 3, but just like I said earlier, it's just too recent. I will be laughing so far if it somehow ends up being a world in kingdom hearts 3
  2. Just realised how amazing this song is <3
  3. Alright, so I've been looking at news for the upcoming Disney flick Zootopia for some time, and after gathering some more infomration today, including some recent adverts, something occurred to me: This is possibly one of the worst ideas that Disney has ever come up with. I mean, what is the appeal behind this movie? "The ultimate anthro tribute"? "Animals walk and talk like humans, lol"? "There's never been an actual movie where all that happens is that animals literally replace humans and they do basically all the stuff we do?" Who's bright idea was this? And who's idea was to make the concept seem so generic as all Hell, and yet at the same time treat it like some revolutionary and original idea based on the trailers I've seen? We're not stupid, Disney, we've seen this schtick before. Also, there's another side to this that involves furry undertones but... uh... I'm not gonna even try with that. Mostly because I don't want to think about it... All I know is that this is a painfully average concept that Disney should never even considered. It just seems so f*cking lazy. And yet, I'm seeing all these hype around it like it's going to be the next Lion King. I just don't get it. At least Cars took something that you don't normally see - literal cars and other vehicles - and made them talk. Seriously, Disney literally has a library of talking animals, plus human-esque animals in general. Maybe I'm just missing the point. If anybody has a logical analysis to share, please do so.
  4. Hey! Long time no see! Sorry about the gap; I hardly have any spare time now, what with full time employment in BBD (previously WG13), Dominos on the side, leading the KH13 Social Media team, piano lessons, trying to fit in time for exercise, food, sleep and of course to go to the cinema! I hope to have another review up shortly after this one! Any-hoo welcome back to film reviews; first cinema review of 2016, so lets get on with the show! And again if you have seen the film, don’t read ahead as there is definitely going to be some spoilers! FILM SUMMARY The 55th Walt Disney animation, Zootropolis or Zootopia! In the UK it’s called Zootropolis, but I personally prefer calling it Zootopia! Judy Hopps is the first rabbit police officer to be appointed at the ZPD and is vigorously trying to prove to everyone that she is capable of the job with the ambition to make the world a better place. Her first case is to find out why some animals are turning savage (like their primitive origins) with the ‘help’ of the sly fox, Nick Wilde. And we learn the same life lessons: having friends is good, love conquers, believe in yourself, keep moving forward; basically exactly the same as Big Hero 6 and every other Disney film out there! CINEMA REVIEW For the first time in these reviews, the cinema we went to was the Odeon in Ayr. A long time ago I went there and realised their scam; it was more expensive for less quality. But this time the cinema was really clean and didn’t smell like something had died. Fraser, Rebecca and myself went to the very front row of seats so we could try and make the screen seem bigger. The sound was alright. Since this was a family film, we got all the kiddy trailers like TMNT, and the Secret Life of Pets which both look pretty rubbish in my opinion. Generally it was a good experience; not the best but it’ll do pig, it’ll do! FILM REVIEW Now my one disappointment from the very beginning was that there was no short film attached with Zootropolis, which is a shame because the shorts in their last few films have been brilliant especially Paperman and Get a Horse! There will probably be something with the DVD/bluray release, but still would have been good to see on the big screen. Now with Zootropolis my initial thoughts were that it’d probably focus more on the humour, visuals and the idea than the storyline; and I wasn’t far off. Disney is increasingly showing the wow factor when it comes to computer animation in competition with Pixar, Dreamworks, etc. I thought the humour was ok; the scenes with Flash the Sloth were probably the funniest, but a lot of the time the animation and behaviour of the characters was what brought out a lot of humour; it’s becoming more realistic and doesn’t feel like the voice actor is just simply reading off a script; the part when Hopps is hysterically sobbing to Wilde is one example of this and makes the film genuinely more authentic! The idea behind it all is great especially that the different districts; both with the story and visually. And taking trends from the modern age of technology like selfies, face swaps, latest app crazes, even just putting earphones in to listen to Shakira. I like the ‘Try Everything’ tune especially when you first see Zootropolis, but there’s a part of me wondering if I should as it sounds like a Hannah Montana motivational tune; it’s a bit cheesy, but I still like it! This film of course talks about the different types of animals (especially predators and prey) but in the limelight has many themes on political correctness, stereotypes and racism; which I think is brilliant especially with the current state of our society today and teaching kids to respect one another. But I couldn’t help feeling this should have been explored more rather than Judy’s keep-moving-forward attitude or Shakira’s Try-Everything tune. We’ve had the go-for-your-dreams lesson with practically every Disney film and the respectfulness of others moral should have been the primary moral. Even although The origin story of Nick Wilde was a wee bit cliché, but in retrospect it’s a dumbed down version of him being called awful names, being cast out and going with the lie that none of his race can be trusted, but I think it’s been dumbed down so much that this won’t get across to kids. Another wee thing I have against this film is it felt very similar to other films like Shark Tale for the modern environment with humanized fish, or even Disney’s own Robin Hood including the fox lead again. It is a great film but unlike it’s original trailer tagline, it IS like something we’ve seen be-fur. RELATED NEWS Well if you’re thinking it’s going to be another year gap till the 56th classic Disney animation, think again! ‘Moana’ (a story about a young woman who uses her navigational skills to discover a mythological island) will be releasing in UK cinemas on November 23rd! The next film after that is ‘Gigantic’ set to release on March 9th, 2018, so a bit more than a year after Moana; in a nutshell it’s Disney’s adaption of Jack and the Beanstalk except when Jack discovers the world of giants, he agrees to help an 11 year old girl (who is 60 feet tall) to find her home. I’m personally thinking it’d probably have the same story style and humour as Tangled. Apart from that here’s a quick run through of the live action films adapted from original classic Disney animations in the next upcoming years: Jungle Book (April 15th), Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27th), Pete’s Dragon (August 12th), Beauty and the Beast (March 17th, 2017), and then there’s Dumbo, Mulan, Pinocchio, Malificent 2, Cruella, Winnie the Pooh, Tink, Night on Bald Mountain as well as other rumoured titles. KINGDOM HEARTS POTENTIAL? It’s been a while since I’ve wrote about video games in my reviews, but I’m going to do exactly the same with Big Hero 6 and talk about the possibility of Zootropolis featuring in Kingdom Hearts. This is a video game franchise that combines the characters from Square Enix games like Final Fantasy and The World Ends With You, and the characters/worlds of Disney films like Lion King, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron. It has been confirmed during last year that Tangled and Big Hero 6 would feature in the next game in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3, but I would also like to talk about Zootropolis as a candidate. Now there are many Disney animations that circulate around animals (Robin Hood, Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, etc) and it will be quite tricky to include many of them in the same game, as there needs to be variety with the worlds/themes. Ie if Zootropolis were to feature in KH3 I wouldn’t expect Robin Hood to, as they would be very similar. My thoughts are Zootropolis would make a brilliant world to visit, but I don’t think it’ll feature in Kingdom Hearts 3 as Big Hero 6 is confirmed and it’s location is a unique modern city already and I feel it’s too late to add Zootropolis to the list. Two of the remastered games of Kingdom Hearts (1.5 HD ReMIX and 2.5 HD ReMIX) are available to buy for PlayStation 3. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Remix is predicted to release about December time this year and Kingdom Hearts 3 has been highly anticipated for many years and there still isn’t a release date, but I reckon it will release during the first half of 2017 (my opinion, not fact!). CONCLUSION Right so to conclude I thought Zootropolis was a great film but wouldn’t say it was the best. In the trailers it said the ‘best Disney animation in 20 years’ which dates back to the end of Disney’s golden era with Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I feel there are still some goodies within these last 20 years; Treasure Planet, Tangled, Frozen, Big Hero 6. It was a great idea mixing today’s technology with a world of anthropomorphic animals, beautiful visuals and brilliant animation especially with the characters. The short film with this film was rubbish though. The Ayr Odeon was ok, but not as good as other cinemas. Even other Odeon cinemas such as Kilmarnock are far better! That’s me again. Hope to see you again real soon! 5. So yeah here's another drawing from me. I just really liked Nick Wilde so I have been practicing drawing him lately. This is my third try drawing this character.
  6. I'm back  with new a new drawing. This time I did Nick Wilde from Zootopia, however this Nick Wilde is meant to resemble more Byron Howard's design from his YT video and that's where I was inspired from the very beginning. I added more detail than I wanted that with his shirt and the tie. But I also took inspiration from myself with drawing him, drawing himself. I think it turned out pretty neat. Here it is
  7. Are you going to see Zootopia in theaters this opening weekend? I can't go this weekend, so I'm hoping to see it later on!
  8. I didn't really know where else to post this but I post it here. So this is gonna be a little rant on the animation film Sing coming out this christmas, which happens to come out from Illumination Entertainment, a animation company that I have lost hope for the past 3 years. So if you know me I am an aspiring animator and screenwriter. Ive been studying filmmaking and marketing so Im really into how companies sell their movies to the audience. Ok so yesterday a usual afternoon some tumblr users posted the new trailer for Illumination's Sing a movie focusing on anthropomorphic animals. I was not that interested but I decided to give it a shot. Then when I turned on the trailer I noticed a very strong resemblance to a character used in the trailer, The snail that appeared for like a few seconds seemed like a copy of an animation school's short film (and I know the people who made the short film) If you just take away the bow tie and change the texture color to green you have almost the exact same snail model from the short film(by a coincidence I don't think so. Since all the animals in the trailer look very cartoony while the snail has more realistic features to it) Sing's Snail Animation School's Short Film If the crew happened to work on the film then I would not care but when I hear that none of the crew members is working on the film I find this very suspicious, their short film became viral so it was by no means unknown by the public especially not in the animation industry. Another thing don't you find this Sing film has a very similar approach to Zootopia maybe not in plot but in world building. LET'S LOOK HOW LONG ZOOTOPIA WAS IN PRODUCTION I happened to be at the D23 last summer and there I met the crew from Zootopia and got to know how long it took for them to produce the film. Their film was announced in mid 2013 but they started as early as of late 2011 right after Winnie The Pooh had been released. So Zootopia was in production for at least 4-5 years. AND NOW ILLUMINATION'S SING So right after I saw the trailer for Sing I quickly looked up any information I could find on the production. Then I found out that they started production on the film as of mid 2014 with having the film announced late 2015 for the public. Enough time for Illumination to compete with Disney's marketing for this year I mean just look at what Illumination is releasing this year, The Secret Life Of Pets that looks like a complete copy of Toy Story and Garfield, and now Sing that competes with anthropomorphic animals that lives in peace and harmony (sounds familiar). Originally Sing was going to have 2017 summer release but they pushed it up to 2016, Hm I wonder why. IF THAT ISN'T ENOUGH All anthropomorphic animal movies that comes out in 2016 is pretty much because of Zootopia, if you don't trust me on this one then let me tell you that all the other animal movies were announced a year after Zootopia was announced. If you happen to work in media industry, a year gives you enough time work out something from another's story and steal ideas or use the same concept. Every Animation company is always competing with each other so it's no surprise that smaller animation companies look for bigger ones like Disney. If you ask me this sounds very similar to when Dreamworks stole ideas from Pixar with, A Bug's Life and made Ants. I find it funny that Illumination have the gut to put out the trailer before Zootopia is released around the world and even releases the film the same year. You might think that this is nice we have two anthropomorphic animal movies in a year but this is just a strategy for making fast money, This is all part of Illumination's campaign, they'll easily get kids and teens attention with using the (from the creators of Despicable me) and use the all star cast that is part of the film along with many modern pop songs. That's simply how it really works. I think you could get a clue from last year that Illumination's strength is marketing, they made a lot of money with minions thanks to their campaign. Illumination is however a very flawed industry when it comes to strong storytelling and often brings out cliched and one dimensional characters with famous actors to voice their characters instead of caring about the story. Enough of my rant but the fact that they release a trailer for their film that won't be up until christmas par with Zootopia is just a sign for someone that's hungry for attention. I am always open for new ideas and stories but when I see something that looks like it has been done too many times before or if it's stealing from others work on purpose for staying popular then I have no interest. Oh and to make sure you don't use the typical defense argument "It's just a kids movie" That's no excuse, these movies are made by full grown adults and despite if it's a kids movie you have every right to criticize a movie for it's approach and execution, as long as you keep it in a nice tone .
  9. So I decided to draw Finnick from Zootopia in his baby elephant costume, cause he's adorable in that costume along with his popsicle.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb6emOPFbIg Here are the directors for Zootopia/Zootropolis. They've really put a lot of effort and intricacy of the movie and why they've been so successful with their movies as of late!
  11. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_a62vu7nZ_M Hey there Ladies and Gentlemen, here's my very first YouTube video created. This took an entire week to construct and all I used was my iPhone 4S for the audio recording, Pixlr Express for some of the image editing and WeVideo to create this. This was initially something that was brewing in my mind so I decided to practically plan it out as nobody has done this, and honestly, it's turned out far more professional and informative as I have originally planned! Please watch and comment on YouTube. I'm completely open to honest criticism and I need all the guidance if I were to continue on making videos. Thank you for taking the opportunity to watch this and comment. I need an international viewing to boost publicity.
