  1. So I just wanted to say I hear people praising the endgame segment a lot, especially in comparison to "the lack of story in Disney worlds". I liked KH3, don't get me wrong, but I kind of felt insulted by the whole endgame's events (from the start of Keyblade graveyard onwards) and the lack of logic in any moment of it... I'll just list the things that make my head spin, if you want to comment, thank you. Do not feel obliged to agree either. Phew, that was long. If you read through all that, I'm both thankful and sorry. Now that I ranted, I hope I can come to term with this story.
  2. Kingdom Hearts 3 has the potential for multiplayer modes. I don't want that. Here's why.
  3. Hey guys Jaydeb back again (if you've seen my last two posts) A lot of people claim they have waited 10 years for Kingdom hearts 3 and I totally disagree and I don't understand why a lot of the casual fans hop on this bandwagon. But I do understand the fruit of the confusion. I made a video about this and let me know what you guys think under this post or in my comment section of the video. I accept all different opinions!
  4. I've had enough. I'm probably too intoxicated in the current state of the KH community as of today. This forum thread hopes to be a platform for people to also voice their hearts out. Complaint No. 1: People want KH3, and they want it now. First of all, why? why would you want KH3 right now? I got two points to back this thing up. a. The story is not ready... yet. "But we're already at KH3, what do you mean the story is not ready yet?" I'm willing to wager a challenge. Introduce a guy who has no idea of Kingdom Hearts and have him/her play only three games: Kingdom Hearts 1, Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3D. Then, have him/her tell the entire lore. Impossible, right? Exactly. Some people have not played these "side-games" that they don't even care or bother to play it just because its not a numbered title. "It's a spin-off". Sure, as if Roxas' story as part of the Organization XIII is a "side-story". There are major parts of the lore that's been told in these "side-stories" but people have been too focused on wanting the story to go on that they missed major plot. Chances are, when KH3 comes out and we've played it all through, there's a chance that a number of people will go "what the flying firetruck was that?", and that's because they haven't played (or even read) the other games. b. The game itself is not ready. Just because there's screenshots and gameplay trailers doesn't mean that the game is in running condition already. Let's take Final Fantasy XV for example. Development of the game started in 2006 (man, we're old, the development started as KH2 came out in the west!) Through development constraints, shelving and all, the game was reintroduced at E3 2013 alongside Kingdom Hearts III. Fast forward to September 2014, when Nomura stepped down as the director for FFXV, Tabata took over, and development went full swing until it was released in November 2016. During that Nomura-Tabata directorship transition period, would you still think that Tabata carried on Nomura's vision of a Final Fantasy game? NO. The moment Nomura stepped down, Tabata already changed MOST of Nomura's works on Final Fantasy XV. As a result, FFXV technically only had a 2-year development cycle. As a result, there are major plot points, lots of crashes. They even announced that they'll add cutscenes that will fill in plot holes in later updates... THAT THING SHOULDN'T HAPPEN... AT ALL! [1] See what my message there? Over the span of two short years of development time, SE was able to launch a game that is practically, incomplete. Kingdom Hearts III does not have a 10-year or a 2-year development cycle... Development started in 2012, right around the release of Kingdom Hearts 3D. and the reveal trailer you saw at E3 2013? That was all CGI. None of it was on Luminous engine or Unreal Engine 4. That was CGI. If you really want KH3 now, expect a de ja vu of what happened on FFXV. Period. Complaint No. 2: For "KH Fans", Quality < Quantity. This ties in well with my complaint no. 1. Ever since KH2, SE was not able to top the quality of the game that KH2 had. Days had this weird panel system, and the plot if kinda meh, Birth by Sleep is where they experimented (and failed miserably) on Command Style, then expanded the series more and confused people further, Re:Coded was meh if it weren't for the fact that its basically a refresher of KH1 and Re:CoM, 3D was just... TIME TRAVEL WOOHOO!!!!! and there's the abomination that is chi/Unchained chi... like, the series probably could stand alone without chi/Ux, but since the probability that everything regarding x/Ux will have its major connections on KH3, we have no other choice but to play it... or not, if you're not up to the cash-grab mechanics of the game... It has come to the point where people really just wants KH3 that they have zero idea what's going on with the lore. Here's another point... 1.5 and 2.5... I appreciate the HD remasters but they're an outright abomination port-wise. Crashes, gameplay imbalances, they're shit, to be blunt. and people shrug it off like the remaster is perfect. The fact that people shrug the remaster's problems off is a concrete point that these so-called "fans" want more games, but not quality games. To quote Soraalam1 here: [2] "...and the community is way too busy crying about a Kingdom Hearts 3 release date that they don't even care about the quality of the products that are being released to them to cause some kind of uproar or movement" If 2.8 comes out and its another case of 1.5 and 2.5, the hopes of KH3 being an actual good game will get slimmer by the minute. Complaint No. 3: Y U H8 Speedruns? It has come to my attention that there are a group of people that hates KH speedruns... why? Why do you hate on a hobby that people have picked up? Is it because "they're breaking my game"? Oh please, grow up, there's barely any major glitch on KH series, I can probably count the glitches that speedrunners use here, and most of these aren't even actual glitches, more like exploits: 1. 1.5's Damage Storage Glitch 2. KH2FM/2.5's Cavern of Remembrance Skip 3. 2.5's BBSFM LV1 rebalance 4. Re:Coded's Game Over Stat Upgrade Most of these aren't even glitches, they're just exploits used... are they mad just because they can finish a game faster than others? Is that even a point to be mad about? They're probably not blatantly mad about you whining about rushing a KH3 release, but y'all are complaining about speedrunners. Pssh... Grow up. Complaint No. 4: You unappreciative son of a b. When Nomura made the year-end thank you video, the comments on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter pages are just... plain jane cancer, maybe even stage 4. Instead of thanking Nomura back for a great KH series they're all "KH3! KH3! Where's my KH3? Enough of the side-games, just give us KH3!" It resonates up till now, when the english KH pages are uploading pictures that hypes up the game via FB, Twitter and Instagram. I have no words, just... *facepalms* just shut the firetruck up you unappreciative sons of bitches. There's my complaints, what's yours? Sound off in the comments! Sources: [1] http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1233181 - Its a rumor, but it turned out that the majority of that went true. [2]
  5. Alright, I am now pressing the button on my patented WABAC machine to take us to the grand old year of... 2009. Ah, 2009. The U.S. economy started to going to shit, swine flu ruined my plans of vacationing in Mexico, we lost the King of Pop, we gained the Queen of Pop (or at the very least the Queen of Bizarro Fashion Statements), and a little boy named David gets a bunch of hits on YouTube just for being filmed after a trip to the dentist. But more importantly, Final Fantasy XIII released to home consoles in Japan, and the good folks down at IGN decided to capitilize on the hype surrounding the game and its eventual release to America in the coming months by making... this: I was about 12 or 13 when this video first dropped. It was hilarious to me back then. I still find it hilarious now, but in a different way.
  6. So for Christmas, I got a $20 Nintendo e-shop gift card. And with that, I got a 2D platformer called Shovel Knight. I initially only played about thirty minutes of it before getting distracted by Super Mystery Dungeon. However, I've recently been playing it a lot more. And I enjoy every second of it. Shovel Knight just does so many things right in terms of what video games are capable of doing, and what many games don't even bother to do. For starters, the game has a great difficulty curve. It's starts off rather easy and somewhat simple. And as you progress through the game, the game gets steadily harder and complex. This seems like something completely natural for video games to do, but these days, it's usually either insanely hard stuff, or a difficulty setting with a static difficulty curve the whole way through. But with Shovel Knight? Nope. It presents its levels, and asks you, the player, to beat it. Not that the game isn't able to be played by everybody. In retrospect, the game is actually quite forgiving, but still punishing. Whenever you die, you get sent back to the last checkpoint and lose a large sum of your current money. However, if you manage to make your way back to where you died, you get the chance to reclaim whatever money you lost the last time you died. This is a very good system, because it gives you a sense of, "get up and try again". And it's much better than a lives system from a game like Mario. You can try as many times as you like without much repercussion. And now, I would like to talk about my favorite thing about Shovel Knight. Once I realized that this game was doing this, I started tearing up. And that's the fact that the game has no tutorials, but still teaches the player. Games these days shove so many tutorials down the player's throat, that you just kinda wish they were just not there. But Shovel Knight comes along and ditches them completely. Rather than tutorials, the game teaches by playing. The best example of this, in my opinion, is in Shovel Knight's stage. One of the reoccurring gimmicks in that stage is ice stuck to the wall. Touching it causes the ice to fall as a platform onto spikes below. So, how does the game teach you this? Well, you fall down a pit, and you fall onto that ice. That's how you learn that touching the ice makes safe platforms. There is no sense of danger at that point, and only in points after that. At that point, if that causes you to die, then it's your fault. The game does this consecutively. It presents a gimmick in a safe environment, and then mixes that with more dangerous situations. This makes every single death not your fault. This is something that I really wish more games did. It truly is a beautiful thing when a game can do this. And that's all I really want to talk about. And for anybody wondering how much I really like this game...well, let's just say that, from a design-only perspective, this is one of the best games I've ever played. I'm not sure what I would rate it on a 1-10 scale, but it would definitely be at least an 8.5. Well, that's all folks! Thanks for reading, if you did!
  7. So, I've been meaning to make this rant for years now and I finally decided to make this. Before I start, I would like to point out that this is all opinion-based. You could agree with me (which I highly doubt you will), you could disagree with me and that's fine (but if you try changing my mind or say I'm wrong then I won't care) or you could find this interesting, who knows? Anyway, this might be long, so if you're not into long rants I suggest you leave now. Let's begin: Essentially, I'm a pretty different individual to this topic here and you'll probably find this surprising so hang tight and get something to bite and/or scratch cause you're probably gonna cringe at my words. These past few years, after spending more time on the internet, I've been surprised by the huge dislikes and hate towards the stories of movies, TV shows, video games, etc. to which I personally enjoy a lot. Of course, there's nothing wrong with hating/disliking something as it is all opinion-based, I was just surprised. And after seeing these, to me, it almost feels like that there are 'rules' or 'laws' in order to make a 'good story'. They almost feel forced towards me that it kind of angers me sometimes. When I go watch a movie, for example, I don't give a crap at ALL about character development, background of characters, plot development and all the rest which I personally find to be stupid. All I care about is if the story is interesting or not, THAT'S IT! I don't care if characters were "one-dimensional", I don't care if the plot wasn't "paced well", I don't care if we didn't learn more about a character, I don't care if a scene seemed unnecessary, I don't care if... you get the idea. To me, constantly hearing these over and over again just feels like these are 'laws' that need to be followed. And like I said, I don't care. There are SO many stories that I enjoyed that I hear a lot of people hate. You want examples? Here you go: Maleficent Home on the Range Iron Man 2 Until Dawn Alice in Wonderland (2010) Fantastic Four (not the 2015 version, but I probably would've liked it, had I seen it) Jingle All the Way Master of Disguise Space Jam Cars and Cars 2 (Really don't understand the hate on these movies. I keep hearing "It's a bad idea" yet I never heard why. Pirates of the Carribean On Strangers' Tides Sword Art Online And that's just a few. You're probably banging your head to the wall right now aren't you? Well this is the big kicker here: I probably would like the movies Dragonball: Evolution and The Last Airbender if I hadn't seen their respective shows beforehand. Well, glad I got that out of the way, I just have one more thing to say which kind of relates to this. You ready? *Drops Mic*
  8. I had someone tell me that they don't understand how people can play video games all the time, and that they just get fat and lazy and don't do anything with their lives. I can't stand when people do that. I'm not going to speak for everyone here, but video games are an escape for me. The real world sucks sometimes, so after working all day, I go home and play video games. So what? Yeah, I'm not skinny and I can be pretty lazy sometimes, but during my work day, I feel like I work hard, and I work nonstop (I'm a teacher btw). It's one thing to not be interested in video games and have no desire to play them, but don't talk down about others in a passive-aggressive way because they happen to enjoy them. What are your thoughts on this? Have you met people like this? What is your reaction? There's a lot more I have to say about this, but I have neither the time nor the energy.
  9. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YAZbbHpJ8DI Just....firetruck him. I don't care if it's "his opinion" or not. This guy doesn't deserve to play Kingdom Hearts. This is a prime example of someone who basically treats the game as torture, and has no sympathy for it. A literal prime example of someone who hated the game FROM THE START,and when they beat it,they are literally happy that they don't have to play it again. This is someone who literally wants the series and all who worked on it to be snuffed out of existence. This is someone who barely has any emotion to the game. This is someone who doesn't deserve to even look at the game.
  10. Whenever I hear about a Kingdom Hearts reboot,I cringe a bit. To me,rebooting the series would essentially mean erasing everything that transpired in the series, and all the hardships and troubles the characters faced would mean nothing, and that all the work the developers put into the series would be worthless. It also wouldn't be the same. I don't want to start all over from the beginning and go through stuff I already know from a reboot perspective! I don't want to hear someone else as Sora. I don't want to hear someone else as Kairi. Also,Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn't even been released yet!!! We are close to the finale of the Xehanort Saga, and we are about to give Xehanort what he deserves, and a reboot would not only cancel KH3,it would also leave the series on a cliffhanger. It would leave the characters that are lost in darkness have no chance of being saved. It would also make fans very disappointed! I hope people agree with me on this...I hope people agree with me that it's too late for a reboot...
  11. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yg3MdoAFYcs https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JZCtXFn8KnA https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=30yho-cTeU4 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KyOGzwwCVds You see that guy? That guy in the videos? That's PhyloFilms. He's a YouTube troll, and a terrible one. The videos listed are his so called "reviews" of video games, and a video from his Worst Video Game Character competition, and people actually BELIEVE him. They even call him a "professional" video game and movie reviewer when all he does is say the game is bad and instantly list his "reasons" why,and people listen to him! They even call him "Lord Phylo" and treat him like a god, praising him and junk! I really hope he doesn't review Kingdom Hearts or Kingdom Hearts 3... I'm sorry for making another topic like this. I promise the next one will be different.
  12. (Before I begin, I'd like to say that this isn't specifically direct towards any person on this site. I'm referring to a huge population of the video game fanbase. Please don't take this personally.) Well, being a gamer, I'm used to seeing the dark side of the gaming community as a whole. That's just something we've come to expect as people who play games. And, of course, we all know that one of these major issues plaguing the gaming community... Is this whole fanboy/girl ideal. By this, I mean when people act as though there can only be one game system that they can follow. I know this has been around since the old days of Nintendo and Sega, but I feel like it's become worse and worse as time has gone on. But I've never understood... Why do people think that this crap is necessary, or even good? Now, before I go any further, I should probably say where my alliance lies with the gaming community: I follow all three companies. Yes, believe it or not, that is possible. I love Nintendo's systems, I love Sony's consoles, and while I don't own an Xbox since they don't really have games that I find interesting, I'm also a PC gamer, and Microsoft's made what I personally find to be the best OS for that. So, yes, I do not just follow one company. Do I have a favorite? Of course, all of us have one we favor more than others. But that doesn't mean that we can only give that company our money, and only praise their games while bashing the other companies as much as possible. When I talk about the issue with fanboys and fangirls, I'm not saying that people have to go and buy every console ever. It's fine if the others don't interest you. However, there's absolutely no need to run the others in the ground and act as though you're superior to fans of other companies because you specifically only buy games and systems from Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft. I'm talking about the people who act as though they've signed a contract saying that they're only allowed to get X system, and couldn't be called a gamer if they so much as touched another one. The people who try to start dumb arguments about why their console is the best, and why everyone in the freaking world needs to throw their money at Y company. The people who force their console and beliefs down someone else's throat and won't take "no" for an answer. I'm sure we've all had to deal with those kinds of people, and we all absolutely hate it. As an example of this, like I said before, I'm personally not interested in Xbox. I don't go around saying it sucks or anything, and I'm happy that Xbox fans are able to enjoy the games they like to play. However, a lot of my friends at school are Xbox fans, and they used to constantly try to convert me to being an Xbox fan. I'd tell them I wasn't interested, and none of the exclusives made me feel as though I could justify throwing down $200+ on a new system, but they wouldn't stop. I remained civil during these discussions, and never said anything negative about the system, just that it didn't interest me. This is what I'm talking about here. People who feel an intense need to force everyone they meet to go and buy their system. I fail to see any sort of practical use in this. So... Yeah. This isn't really the most well organized rant, but here's my question: Why do people feel the need to support this fanboyism crap? It's been, what, 20-30 years since this has been a thing in culture? Is it just that deeply ingrained in gaming society that people feel as though they're not a gamer unless they participate in pointless debates that never end with a winner? If both sides are so adamant about their opinion, the argument will just keep going until one side gets tired. There's no way one person will be able to convert another person. It's an entirely pointless argument, so why even try? People can enjoy games without having to stick by the side of just one company. If the others don't interest you, I get it, but don't go and shove your love for a company down other peoples' throats over it. Here's the interesting thing: Nobody cares that you have an undying love for that company. We're all here to play games and have fun, not to bicker about what's the best. Those of us who are past this nonsense and just enjoy games for being games are perfectly fine; why can't other people see that? (Yeah... Sorry, this is something I've wanted to rant about for a long time now. I wouldn't be surprised if most people just read the title and act like they read the entire thing, or if we somehow get some massive console argument in the replies I hope it'd be a joke one if that happens. Thanks for everyone who took the time to read it, though. I just wanted to get this off my chest)
