  1. This movie, as I've come to learn, is not only another King Kong movie, but also the second in the now established in Legendary Entertainment's new monster movie shared cinematic universe which officially started in the 2014 "Godzilla" film. I never saw Godzilla '14 (probably will at some point now that I've seen this) but I've heard good things, as well as bad things. Either way, it made a ton of money and it's no surprise that Legendary would want their own CU. It's all the rage nowadays. As for this film in particular: well, it's got a lot of good, recognizable actors, good looking visuals, Kong looks impressive, the monsters look ferocious, and it's a bit of an alternate take on the property (if you recall, the original Kong story was set in the 30s while this is fast forwarded to the 70s, and I really doubt anybody's taking a trip back to New York and putting Kong on display and whatnot, though I could still be wrong). One big thing about this film concerning Kong himself, as I've also read, is that he takes a lot of inspiration from his original 30s incarnation while still attempting to retain modern elements and overall be timeless. He's described as a "lonely God, he was a morose figure, lumbering around this island". Clearly, there's a bit of seriousness that the movie is taking (I mean, how can you not, it's centered around an island full of freaky natives and giant monsters) but also a little bit of campiness (mostly from John C. Reilly's appearance), which works in the film's favor because that's also very reminiscent of the original 30s film. So then, thoughts?
