  1. Riku held her for a minute more, his arms enveloping her in a tight embrace. "I'll walk you home," he whispered into her hair. He didn't want her to be alone. Not now. Not ever really.
  2. "You have nothing to apologize for," Riku reassured, moving his hand to stroke her head, "None of this was your fault." Those creeps were sick.
  3. Riku, not having expected her tears, gasped slightly before wrapping his arms around her frame tightly. "I'm here. I'm here." He assured. Riku wanted her to feel safe with him. Wanted her to share these feelings with him. Was that strange? His heart ached in response, and Riku knew the reason then. His love for her in that moment. It was so powerful. How had he never experienced this feeling before?
  4. "It's okay...," Riku soothed, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, "You're okay. I won't let anything happen to you again. I promise." He would never let her feel this kind of pain again. Lightning didn't deserve any of this.
  5. His heart had led him, but was that too corny to say? Would she just laugh at him? "My heart," Riku explained slowly, hesitantly, "I...It felt yours calling out to it." I felt your pain. Your fear.
  6. Riku brushed his finger over the surface of her skin. It made him angry to see her normally alabaster skin tainted with a dark purple splotch; one that he should have prevented. "I'm sorry...I was late. I should have been there for you." He cupped her cheek then and bowed his face. "I'm sorry."
  7. Riku shook his head and smiled. "You don't look fine. Let me check your wrist." Approaching Lightning, Riku touched her wrist gently. Nothing seemed broken.
  8. The flames dispersed from Riku's hands instantly, and the tenseness of his posture melted as he turned back towards Lightning. "Hey...are you, okay?"
  9. "Get the picture?" Riku asked. His tone held a false cheerful tune that was relatively creepy given the dark flames in his hands. Chase nodded and was silent. His boisterous confidence had been depleted, and the ruddy color in his cheeks was drained. This dude was crazy! "L-Let's go, boys," Chase called out hoarsely as he backed away slowly, "This chick ain't worth the trouble."
  10. "Wha...?" Riku turned his head just in time to feel the impact of Chase's fist. The silver haired boy stumbled back but managed to keep upright. "Are you really serious?" Riku asked, not even bothering to nurse the bruise blossoming on his cheek. Chase wasn't particularly strong, but the punch was direct enough. "C'mon and fight!" Chase taunted. There was an excite flame in his eyes now as if the punch he managed to land was the ultimate confidence booster. He could take this loser. Riku pinched the bridge of his nose and released a long, heavy sigh. What could he do now? He couldn't use the keyblade. His eyes, which had been trained on Chase, flickered over to Lightning. Maybe he could just scare the idiot away? Use some kind of repellant...Dark flames began to crackle in his hands. "I'm not going to fight you anymore, and you're going to leave Lightning alone." "Oh am I?" Chase jeered with another obnoxious chortle. "You are," Riku affirmed in a low voice. The flames in his hands grew more sinister. Chase swallowed as he finally noticed the threat in the other boy's hands. He was just dreaming right? None of this was real? Just part of a really bad hangover... "Uh...um..."
  11. Though her voice was quiet, Riku heard Lightning clearly. The dark expression on his face visibly softened. "Yeah?" It was strange hearing her speak so softly--it tugged on his heart because there was a note of vulnerability that hasn't been there before. Not in the time that they had known one another.
  12. Riku rolled his eyes, not bothered by the threat. His fingers twitched for the familiar cold metal of his keyblade, but the boy reminded himself of the consequences that wielding his weapon would bring. ‘I’ve been without the keyblade before. And these guys are nothing compared to heartless.’ Or Xehanort. But Riku didn’t even think the name of the man who had caused so much ruin. Chase charged towards him then like an angry, drunk bull. His fists were wild, throwing uncoordinated shots at the silver haired boy again and again while his friends tried to attack him from behind. Riku, who had been merely stepping aside from these assaults, finally grabbed one of Chase’s wayward jabs and twisted the other boy’s arm sharply. Nothing was broken but Chase yelped before gritting his teeth from the pain. He was too slow, too weak in comparison, but his inebriated mind pushed him forward and back, unsteadily, to his feet. “Guess you’re not all talk then.” Chase spit blood onto the grass and laughed.
  13. Riku knew her assurance was empty, but he decided to leave it be for now. He turned his attention, instead, back to the group of jocks. "We're done here," Riku snarled, "Go home now before you regret it." Chase chuckled as he lifted himself up off the ground. Dirt covered his face in nasty, scar-like streaks, and a trickle of blood leaked from the corner of his mouth. "Well, well, well, looks like the boyfriend did come for you, pinky!" Chase sneered, "but I ain't going anywhere. You just got a lucky shot. Boys!" Chase called over his shoulders to his friends, "It's time to teach this pretty boy a lesson."
  14. Chase recoiled in disgust, but his grip on her refused to loosen. She was his prize. He wouldn't let go. "H-How dare you!?" He boy bellowed, his face contorted into something monstrous and ugly. Even now she had this kind of audacity?! "You're gonna pay for that. Just you--" A swift punch to the jaw cut off whatever Chase was going to say next; his iron grip finally faltered on her wrist from the surprise attack as well. The perpetrator or rather hero glowered darkly from the shadows. The only visible trait his phosphorescent turquoise eyes. “What do you think you’re doing?” The other jock, Chase’s friend, released Lightning and the phone in his hand at the same time, seemingly afraid of the snarl in the other boy’s voice. He looked like a child caught red handed with something he knew he shouldn’t have. “N-Nothin’ just...a joke.” Chase, however, wasn’t apologetic. The haze clouding his mind was thick, like his skull. “This is between me and her,” Chase spat, jabbing a finger at Lightning with one hand while using the other to rub the side of his face that the boy had punched. He steadied himself again, and dove towards the intruder. His next words were an angry, drunken garble. A sigh could be heard from the boy as he dodged the pathetic attempt and watched his enemy fall face-first into the ground. “You okay, Light?” He was finally visible now, silver hair clinging to his face from sweat. ‘I should have been here earlier...’
  15. Chase yelped but didn’t release her. Instead, his grip became tighter. “Shut up! No one can hear you! No one cares!” Chase screamed. He was getting real sick of her attitude. So whiny. Why couldn’t she just accept it and have a good time? All the other girls did.
  16. Chase brought his lips right next to her ear. His whisper was husky. “I bet your little boyfriend wishes he could touch you like this...” Chase’s free hand crawled from her cheek to her sides, lingering on her lower back before moving closer—eliminating the space between their bodies. “Don’t fight anymore, baby. You knew this was comin’. So just enjoy...”
  17. “Heh, heh, not so tough now, are ya?” Chase mocked, bringing his face closer to hers so that his breath mingled with hers. His friend cackled beside him, swaying as he fished a phone from his pocket to record Chase’s triumph with his free hand. The inebriated ‘victor’ grinned. “Shoulda been nicer last time, pinky," he mocked, flicking the belly button ring, "Though I gotta say that this outfit..." He trailed off to let his eyes wander across her body, "definitely makes it worth while."
  18. “You heard me,” Chase glowered, finally snatching one of her wrists, “you humiliated me! I’ve been the laughing stock of the campus since then.” His grip on her wrist tightened and he swung her towards a wall roughly. “I don’t take that too well, pinky” he spat the word ‘pinky,’ and curled his upper lip. Chase had never been rejected like that before. Not by any girl. He was hot and popular.
  19. "Why is she lying, Chase?" one of them slurred to the dark haired boy whose eyes roved over her body hungrily. As if he wanted to devour her. The boy who had spoken leered at Lightning then, squinting his bleary eyes. "We don't like liars, pinky. Just give my boy here some, and we'll leave." Chase teetered even when standing still; his eyes were eerily bloodshot. "You owe me after what you did. You and your little boy toy," Chase sneered. He was closer now, less than a few feet away. The closest building was now shrouded in darkness, and no students or staff filtered in or out.
  20. "Aww, c'mon, baby," another of the jock's cooed, "don't be like that." They stumbled faster towards her, their laughter sounding more and more deranged the closer they got. Nearby, one of the street lamps flickered until it fizzled out into darkness. "We don't bite!" the lead jock hollered. His whole body reeked of alcohol, and there beer stains decorating his once pristine white shirt. "Don't act like you don't want me!"
  21. Sora visibly deflated at the mention of Noel. Why did his name have to come up now? "Right," Sora said more quietly now, "I guess that's true." It also made him wonder then: would they become boyfriend and girlfriend one day? Did Kairi like Noel that much? They already seem awfully close now... "Hey, there, beautiful," one of the boys crowed between his drunken laughter. His figure was more visible now, exposing a tall and toned body with greasy dark hair and a malicious smile. He was flanked by two equally intoxicated frat boys armed with glass bottles of beer that they had likely snuck into the festival. "Miss me?"
  22. "Riku's got a girlfriend," Sora teased in a sing-song voice. The words were so childish, but the brunet couldn't help himself. This was his best friend, so he had to enjoy this moment as much as possible. "Whatever," Riku said, brushing Sora's words off with a growing blush. He did like the insinuation of Lightning being his girlfriend though... "We're just dating." "Uh, huh," Sora pressed, "Exactly."
  23. Stunned, Riku touched his cheek carefully as if pressing too hard would somehow erase the feather light touch of her lips. "Um...yeah."
  24. "It's fine. You're fine," Riku assured with a kind smile, "Your sister needs you. I understand, so go take care of her alright? Just text me when you have time for that second date." Riku winked at her, ignoring the snicker of Sora beside him. I've never seen Riku like this before... Sora mused, throwing his friend a teasing grin.
  25. "What's wrong? Something happen?" Riku asked, voice laced with concern. He couldn't see the message Lightning just received, but by the look on her face, it wasn't anything good.
