    "You're welcome," He whispered. In the distance, a new set of voices could be heard, breaking the couple apart. Sora sighed. They should probably head back to campus now before the others worried too much...

    "I'll always protect you, Kairi," Sora murmured putting a hand behind her head to stroke her hair. "Because I want to."

    Sora inhaled sharply by the sudden closeness but wrapped his own arms around her, offering a small squeeze. "Hey, it's okay. We're okay now."

    Sora blinked in surprise. I suppose it makes sense she would feel that way, but..."I was upset that you were with Noel, but you're more important to me. Our friendship means more to me than anything." I love you. But Sora knew those kinds of words weren't to spoken aloud. Not now when she was so broken. Besides, Sora could barely believe it himself.

    "What's wrong?" Sora asked, his own smile diminishing as he noticed her dim expression. Was it something he said? Maybe the suggestion was too soon after what happened with Noel?

    "We can go during one of our breaks," Sora offered. Maybe it could even be just the two of them. Though I'm sure Riku and Roxas would like to bring the other girls too.

    "Yeah, she was the princess of that world. We helped her find her parents," Sora explained. He wanted to help Kairi find her family too--the one that she lost. "I'll have to bring you there sometime. There are a lot of flowers." Rapunzel could braid flowers into her hair; the thought made Sora blush. Kairi would look so beautiful...

    He gave her a toothy grin and winked. "I picked up a few steps when I was in Corona." Dancing with Rapunzel in the square had made him want to dance with Kairi even more. One day, he hoped to take her there. We could see the floating lanterns together too...Though that was overtly romantic. Which would be okay with Sora...

    Sora hummed the a song again, but this time it was an older tune. One they hadn't heard since before the islands fell. There was no one else in the garden, so Sora swept Kairi across the gardens as if they were attending their own private ball.

    Sora raised a brow and stood up; he extended a hand towards her and bowed with as much grace as he could muster. "Shall we then, princess?" The air around them was calm, silent, but his heart was a thundering mess.

    "Heh, heh," Sora rubbed the back of his head, "Thanks. You look ready for the ball yourself."

    When Sora finished his crown, he placed it onto of Kairi's head with great care. The yellows, blues, and pinks popped. "It looks perfect." You look perfect.

    Sora took a pink lily and a white daisy and began intertwining the stems. "I think I remember." It would be fun seeing Kairi wear a crown. She was a princess after all.

    Sora nodded happily. Another memory made between them. ​I can find a frame for the picture too. I'm sure Riku and Roxas will tease me, but a picture of her smile is worth it. "Over here!" Sora called, gesturing to a bench near a bed of roses. They could weave their flower crowns here.

    Sora followed Kairi’s lead and started to collect an array of different flowers until a small bouquet was gathered in his hands. “I can make you one too!” He exclaimed with just as much child-like fervor. Sora still was a kid at heart no matter how old he became.

    “I do like crowns,” Sora teased, showing off the silver pendant hanging from his neck. He was happy to see her smile again. In that moment, Sora realized he would do anything to keep it. Noel may have broken it, but Sora would mend it no matter how long it took.

    “Oh, well, we don’t have to talk about it,” Sora said quietly. He could only imagine a five year old Kairi enduring the fall of her world. It was hard enough seeing the islands swallowed by darkness as a teenager.

    "How much do you remember...about your old life I mean?" Sora asked. They never talked much about Kairi's history with this world, partly because the islands were her home now, but also because Sora found himself afraid to drudge up bad memories.

    “Aerith really outdid herself, huh?” Sora observed with a low whistle. A humming bird buzzed by his ear and over to a patch of fresh tiger lilies. “It’s nice seeing this place so alive.” He remembered when the castle had been in ruins. Nothing seemed alive except the heartless then.

    Inside the newly crafted garden beds, a spectrum of colors greeted them. Sunflowers, roses, lilies, daffodils, and so many other flowers that Sora couldn't name adorned the scenery. Their perfumes floated and mingled together in that space, causing Sora to sneeze. "Welcome to the gardens!"

    "Aerith has been tending the flowers here since the reconstruction started. I haven't seen it yet, but Aerith always seemed like she had a green thumb," Sora said as the reached the final few steps. Please let there be at least a few flowers for her to see.

    When he turned his face from her, Sora couldn't help but frown. How could he cheer her up? Would flowers be enough? "Alright," he said cheerfully and began pulling her away from the campus and back into the little town he had once fought his way through. "Just a little further," Sora told her as they found a set of large stone steps. The gardens were being rebuilt, but Leon had mentioned, in passing, that things had been coming together nicely under Aerith's guidance.

    "I was thinking we could take a walk through the gardens. I never really got to stop and smell the roses the last time I was here," Sora joke, referring to his many adventures fighting heartless beside Donald and Goofy.

    Sora grabbed her hand back and squeezed her fingers tightly. "Okay, let's go together then." He wasn't quite sure where they would end up but anywhere was better than here. Maybe the gardens? Kairi always did love flowers.

    Sora was tempted to turn around and offer a rebuttal but stopped when he saw Kairi's glassy eyes. "Hey, it's okay now, Kai." he said with a small smile, "Please don't cry." He knew that what just happened hurt her, but it was always so hard to see her tears.
