    My drawings are terrible and I'm getting discouraged. Not to mention our teacher doesn't teach us anything. She just says, "Paint this!", and I'm supposed to know how to do it.

      Thanks. Though my class is mostly about coloring instead of drawing. Which means that she could at least show us how to create light and shadow effectively... :/

      I agree with that. There are a few things which can be taught and shadows and lighting are definitely part of them. Your teacher could show you examples and then explain if she cannot do it without help :D In the end, art teachers usually don't present possible solutions but rather encourage doing it yourself first. Which is not helpful.
