Anime | Manga Funimation & Crunchyroll Form Distribution Partnership
Kyouma-Blade replied to Firaga's topic in General Discussion
Thank god, Funimation's subs were awful, typesetting wise. On the other hand though, this may become more of a monopoly for the american anime industry. Companies like Daisuki and Sentai Filmworks will definitely have less of a presence because of this. Don't particularly care either way, since I end up downloading my anime anyways.- 6 replies

Here are my recommendations. These are only ordered alphabetically, but give all of these at least 1 episode. Casshern Sins - It's set in a post-apocalyptic world, where robots have taken over, but something called "the ruin" is slowly decaying the robots. It's not very action packed, although there are plenty action scenes in it. It focuses more on the world and the way the sentient robots react to their inevitable death. It's an episodic anime, but there is a overarching plot that resolves at the end. I preferred the sub. Cowboy Bebop - Mankind has taken to space, and space has become something like the New Age Wild West. The main cast are a group of bounty hunters, and follow their adventures. It's an episodic anime, but has an overarching plot for the main character that resolves at the end. This one is probably the most needed to watch. It pioneered a lot of different things in anime that are still present today, and one of the first anime to hit the mainstream U.S. market. Very influential, but don't set too high of an expectation for it. I preferred the dub. Ping Pong the Animation - It follows a bunch of people who play ping pong. The art style may be off-putting, but it's worth watching. The animation is top notch, along with the characters. I preferred the sub. Psycho-Pass (Don't watch if you're unable to handle gore) - It's set in a society that is controlled by a measurement called a "Psycho-Pass" which shows your state of mind. Depending on your Psycho-Pass, it will decide your job, your living situation, your every day life. And it can even get you under arrest, to preemptively stop a crime that may occur from you. The main character hunts down people with a low Psycho-Pass. I preferred the sub. Steins;Gate - A group of eccentric people find out a way to time travel. It may start slow to some, but it pays off. I preferred the sub. Trigun - This one is also like a Space Age Wild West, but it looks more traditionally western than Cowboy Bebop, as it's set mostly on a desert planet. The main character is an outlaw with a huge bounty on his head, but has a history that weighs heavily on him. So much so, that he refuses to kill, and very rarely uses his gun. I preferred the dub. Code Geass, Evangelion, Panty and Stocking are also good shows, but Code Geass does not have all episodes on their website as far as I'm aware. Evangelion does not have the main series on it. Panty and Stocking is very vulgar, and I don't know if it'll be to your tastes.

Will there ever be a re zero english dubbed?
Kyouma-Blade replied to Exiblade7's topic in General Discussion
It depends on who buys the rights for U.S. distribution. If it's Funimation, it should've either had a broadcast dub, or will have one announced a few weeks after it ends in Japan. For example, Danganropa 3 and Tale of Zetstiria the X are licensed by Funimation, so they have broadcast dubs, since they are fairly popular. I don't see Re:Zero on Funimation's website, so I'm assuming they don't have the rights to it. You might have to wait for someone else to pick it up, like Sentai. In some unfortunate circumstance, it may never be bought, and may never get a dub. -
First one that comes to mind is Pac-Land. Visually displeasing, auto scroller, hazards that make themselves unclear if they are a hazard or just a part of the background. Overall, not fun. Would've taken the Pac-Man stage from the 3DS version than this masterpiece made on MSPaint. Planet Zebes: Brinstar's Depths is also pretty bad. It rotates around, making characters with poor recoveries screwed, and because of the janky platforms depending on where it stops, it's hard to keep your footing and attack your opponent at the same time. Battlefield from Melee just makes me salty because of the ledges. Don't really mind any other stage from what I remember.

Anime | Manga Your anime list thread
Kyouma-Blade replied to Exiblade7's topic in General Discussion
my list is in my signature, but here it is if you have signatures turned off. To help add a bit more substance to my post, I'll compare my list to everyone else's. We have 4 shared anime, with Steins;Gate being the same rating. I rated F/SN:UBW lower than you, with 7 for season 1 and 8 for season 2. Haven't watched Owari no Seraph yet, but it's a low priority right now. We share 7 anime, with most of them being TWGOK. I seem to have regularly lower scores than every else. I did enjoy TWGOK, but I felt like I didn't get much out of it besides some chuckles and trying to decide the objectively best girl. It's Shiori, by the way.Haven't finished FMA or FMA:B, will get around to watching more some day. Ao no Exorcist was one of my first anime, but looking back, I don't remember much about it, or care much about what went down. Might pick up the new season if it has positive reception. Rare to see someone else watch Gosick. It's a fine anime, but it dragged a bit too long, and got me confused around the time the black guy came in, though that's just subjective. -
The character models for 0.2/3 look so strange to me. Some of them are not necessarily bad, just strange looking.

Which Spring anime are you enjoying the most so far?
Kyouma-Blade replied to Wan_Pisu's topic in Poll of the Week
I haven't picked up any anime this season, partly because I've been burned a bit too bad last season picking up shows that looked promising, and partly because I've been working on my backlog. So far, My Hero Academia and Flying Witch seem like something I might come back to later. -
I liked the review. It gave relevant points that was reasoned with and explored, with clear segments I like that you didn't use a number scoring system, though really you could just translate your scale into 3/5 for people who focus on scoring instead of the points made. It can't be helped. I overall agree with this review. Keep making these, it's cool seeing other people's opinions on things, because it can help gain another perspective.

Disclaimer: I have not finished this anime. I watched the first 5 episodes and stopped.I don't plan on finishing this anime anytime soon. The negative feedback is an accumulation of multiple things. The hype that surrounded the show before it aired, the fact that KyoAni animated this, and the overall dislike towards ecchi shows.I don't know if you were around for the pre-hype to this show, but it was pretty big. There was a lot of talk about how KyoAni is God, the source material is good, and how all these cool people are working on this anime. The hype let people down, naturally, as that's inherent in every hyped thing. Also doesn't help it's not that great.Focusing more on KyoAni, many people were excited that they were coming out with another anime. They have an impressive lineup, as you may know. Lucky Star, K-On, and Hibike Euphonium to name a few. They were excited for the eye-catching visuals and the possibility for fight scenes from KyoAni, which are few and far between, last anime I remember with that is Kyoukai no Kanata. They got that at least, but they were also expecting a good story. Anime like Chunnibyou had included anime original characters to keep the anime interesting and have new character interactions, which are usually the focus in KyoAni's anime. I can't say anything about the story, obviously, but their character interactions were boring, along with their personalities. Maybe they evolve later, I don't know. But, I don't see how they'd be able to 7 more episodes after 5 episodes of nothing. You also have the opposite side of the spectrum, people who don't even like KyoAni in the first place. Be it them propagating moeshit or just going against the hype. They come out of the woodworks with a way louder voice than people who are content with the anime, which may explain why you seem alone in your stance. All I got out of these 5 episodes was that this anime is an ecchi show with shoddy foreshadowing that doesn't seem to go anywhere. I admit the characters look really nice (Reina a best), but the art and animation can only carry it so far. There was no substance, but acted like there was or will be, and as far as I'm aware, the only coherent plot kicks in the last two episodes, which is far too late.As for my own opinion, it's just another ecchi show. Kyoto Animation has done a fantastic job once again with its animation and art, but just lacks in everything else. Again, take it with a grain of salt, since I haven't finished it. Nothing has really made me want to anyways.

Can you actually? I thought you could only copy their Mii onto your copy of Miitomo. I'll see if it works. Edit: Yeah, it looks like you can't add people through this way, only get their Mii. Hope they add this feature in.

Has anyone gotten to story mission 31? [Potential Bug]
Kyouma-Blade replied to Toominator's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
You can circumvent the very few friend medals by exiting back to the mission selection. This refreshes the friend medals, giving you a different set. I've done this a lot when I wasn't happy with my friend medal selection. I've never encountered the crash though. -
People sleeping on Little Caesar's. Great for that hot and ready meal. Real stuff is the Totino's pizza though. Add some Sriracha on that and that's fool's gold. This shit could barely even be called pizza, but it's best worst thing I've eaten.
-
Actually, that's a good point that I hadn't thought of. But, I don't really know how much Satoru grows. I know that before these events, he was a struck out manga artist who works in a low pay pizza delivery job, and that he's introverted and can't convey his manga characters' emotions well. After the events, he seems to be a successful manga artist. However, I can't see anything else in him that changed. He doesn't seem to be close to anyone at the end, and didn't really go anywhere in terms of development. I'm a bit blurry on how he progressed, since I focused more on the mystery aspect while I was watching, so please help me out if I'm missing something. Also, "constantly consistent." I don't know about its dark themes. I feel like the child abuse and psychopathic behavior wasn't particularly handled well. I'm very lucky to have never experienced child abuse, so I don't know the realities of it. However, it feels like it was just a cheap shot at our emotions. I feel like it didn't delve into it much, and didn't feel like a necessary addition to Kayo's character as a result. She could've been a cold person with or without this backstory. I don't see the point of why the mother decided to do this in the first place, as the anime doesn't make it seem like she experienced this kind of lifestyle herself when she grew up. I don't actually see why she started taking it out on her daughter, since she's basically the only precious thing she has left. I don't know who you meant specifically by the psychopathic behavior, but I'm going to assume you meant the murderer. I thought that was poorly explained, and wasn't as good as I was hoping it could've been. His whole motive was chalked up to a folk tale he heard. His psychopathic behavior with his disregard to animal life didn't add to his motives. One could easily say they value human life over animal life. I don't get it, and that may also be because I'm not a psychopath. Or at least, I don't think I am. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, they could've done so much more with the murderer, but it feels so lackluster. I ain't gonna tell you to fix your rating system, since everyone uses the 10 point scale differently. But, I don't get how you could call it a 10/10 when you said that there are flaws and that the ending wasn't that great. Also, there's been talk about missing manga material, but I haven't heard of that before this discussion. Could someone enlighten me on some big points they missed in the anime?
-
I don't think this is the case either, because they've pointed out major things they had problems with that, as far as I know, haven't deviated from the manga. Things like how weak the mystery was, how cookie cutter the murderer is, all of that hasn't been altered when they transferred it into the anime medium. Quickly skimming through the reviews I posted last time, they made no mention of the manga, focusing specifically on the anime itself. Hell, I haven't even read the manga, nor do I plan to, but I can see the points they're making. Granted, I didn't see them the first time around, but retrospectively, you can see the flaws it has. The mystery took a backseat for the relationship and adventures of Satoru and Kayo, which is kind of bad, when it sells itself as a murder mystery. When the show gave you the murderer's reasoning, it was lame af, to put it bluntly. I was hoping they would go for "ends justify the means" kind of villain, who kills children who go through abuse. Instead, they gave insanity.

I suppose it's time to talk about the inevitable backlash regarding this anime and its hype. While it was airing, the scores varied around 9.12/10. Currently, Boku Dake ga Inai Machi rests on an average of 8.86/10 on MAL. Looking at the top reviews for it, this comes up. 4, 4, 5, 8. Of course, MAL is awful in founding out the quality of an anime, but it does show the public opinion. Why the sudden drop off? One could claim it was because of its ending. While the ending is not without its faults, that doesn't seem to be the reason for it. Looking at these reviews, they point out flaws that were present throughout the bulk of the show. It's quite strange how the issues were never really talked about before it ended, when these issues are so glaring. Simply put, there seems to be a sort of stigma on calling out shows and their flaws while it's currently airing, but when it's over, it's free reign. One might say that's because people waited until it ended before voicing their opinion, since they haven't gotten the full story yet. However, that's kind of bullshit. People have self proven that they already judge something without getting the full story, case in point, the existence of the ratings of Boku dake ga Inai Machi while it was airing. Even then, the nature of some of these flaws don't tie in with knowing the full story. The lack of focus in motivation of the main character, the strange thought processes of certain things like the killer's motive, Kayo's mother's reason, and the chocolate bar are all fully able to be called out on without seeing the end of the anime. So, what's the real reason for this weird stigma? I don't know for sure, but I'll hazard a guess. People are afraid of speaking out against popular opinion when they think they are alone. Throughout the airing season, I never heard any negative things about this anime. Not one. It's actually really strange, considering the communities I usually am a part of. However, when the dust settled, and the majority of people saw how inadequate the ending was at explaining certain things, the hidden dissenters came out of the woodworks. It's pretty interesting to me how this anime turned out in terms of being treated by the community. I've seen plenty of other anime getting the same treatment too, like with Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, and Charlotte, but I never really had a full grasp on why this is the way it is. I might be insanely wrong somewhere, which may happen because I keep writing this kind of shit out at 2 in the morning, but currently, I feel like this came out okay. What was the point of this? I wanted to figure out why these kinds of backlashes keep happening, and I just wrote down my groggy thought process on it. Might as well post it. Enjoy, and don't be afraid to help me on the right track if you think I'm wrong somewhere.

Leaks and how they effect the gaming community.
Kyouma-Blade replied to AzureAce's topic in General Discussion
I don't really understand how leaking a release date is a slap to the face, but I don't really care much about leaks in the first place anyways. When leaks happened with Sm4sh (ESRB and Roy/Ryu datamines), I was pretty excited that they were coming in the first place. Where and when the news broke, that doesn't really matter to me. I'm more looking forward to the actual content itself, rather than relying on hype to carry the product. However, I understand why people would be upset, since leaks often come at unexpected times, and you have a high chance of coming across one accidentally. Joining together in an experience with other people who are just as excited as you is fun, and leaks may lessen that for you. Personally, it doesn't, but I can see how. Whether or not leaks are good to the developers are another thing entirely. If anyone should feel like they got a slap in the face, it should be the developers, not the fans. They chose to trust a news source, and were betrayed by them, accidentally or not. I sure as hell wouldn't trust a company that couldn't keep that sensitive information under lock and key. To sum up my thoughts on leaks: We take those, but I'll pour one out for the developers. -
It's one of the better anime this season. It's the only one I'm keeping up to date on. It's a good ride so far, probably my Anime of the Season. I've yet to catch up on a lot of other anime though, so I'll see if it can hold that spot. Also, a pretty funny video, but big spoilers for those not on Episode 11.

As of right now, the CG animators in Japan's industry are woefully under-equipped, be it technologically, financially, or skill sets. Ajin as a recent example is hard to watch. Certain anime have come close to seamlessly integrating the two dimensions together, but it's usually for little things, like cars or background characters. The best example that I've watched so far to having a nice blend of CG and hand drawn is Kantai Collection. It's not that great in other aspects, but I can at least commend how its CG is not very jarring compared to other anime.

I've recently finished Conquest, and picked up Birthright. Man, I'm so used to plunging into the next chapter. I haven't played a story chapter in the past hour or so, because of all the children I can get now. I find Conquest more fun, but Birthright is also fun in its own right so far. Ryoma is overpowered, along with Silas, who also helped carry me through Conquest. I played as a girl this time around, so I married Subaki to get Caeldori as a daughter, because she is a-dori-ble.

If you obtain the free Before Awakening DLC, and keep all three NPCs alive, you will get seals which will allow you to reclass a unit to the Lodestar class for male units and the Great Lord Class for female units. The Lodestar class is similar in function to the same class in Awakening, which was exclusive to Spotpass and DLC Marth. These classes are the closest you can get to Chrom's class. Unfortunately, you can only get these seals once per playthrough, which means you can't farm them. Fun fact about this DLC, you can have certain characters interact with the NPCs. Try Odin, Selena, Lazward, Jakob, or Corrin out.

Don't know if you're going to receive this post, but as far as I know, the three you listed are the only ways to obtain them. I know that through the Smithy, you can trade in a large amount of gems for one of another, but that's about it. You can also use the Arena to get more of what you already have, but that doesn't really help with what you don't. I eventually get all of the Hoshido resources during my playthrough of Birthright around Chapter 17, by just losing the lottery and having units give them to me at random. I believe every player gets a different set of resources to farm per playthrough, since I got some stuff I haven't gotten yet through there. Edit: To add on, there is a certain character in Conquest that allows you to sometimes get 3 random gems or ingredients, but that won't help much if you're playing on Birthright. I've been playing Conquest, and I've been really enjoying it so far. It's definitely a challenge, but I like how it mixes up the objectives, and how the story progresses. I've also played some of Birthright in between as well, and it's also enjoyable. I've gotten a hold of the special edition somehow, so I'll be playing Revelation soon. Tossing up the next question then. Which version did you pick? Any particular reason? Who do you plan on marrying on your first playthrough? For me, I chose Conquest, because I found it interesting how the beginning chapters also forces you morally to chose Hoshido, and I wanted to see how the story progressed if I went Nohr. I'm not disappointed in the slightest so far. I've already married Selena, because I can't resist most tsunderes.

ERASED is a pretty good anime to pick up this season.
