Even if they're falling right into Xehanort's arms, they still need to fight and stop him. The risk is forging the X-blade and opening Kingdom Hearts, yes, but it's a risk they have to take. For these reasons: Otherwise, he'll just recapture the 7 princesses. Even if they don't fight, he'd find some way to force them to do his bidding. And honestly, everything should go according to his plan, only to have it shatter after his victory by the 7 guardians. It would be a fitting conclusion as this is the last time he's the main antagonist. Also, having the final fight in Kingdom Hearts would be cool. -

I'd consider MoM to be an antagonist. He set the stage in such a way that the Keyblade War was guaranteed to happen. He wanted Kingdom Hearts. So he used the Gazing Eye to predict the future and cause all that happened to happen. At least that's what I believe. -
I honestly hope we get to read the Book of Prophecies somehow. Maybe they'll be the secret reports in KH3.

1. They needed to gather for the creation of the 13th vessel, which was supposed to be Sora. That however failed. As for them going back to their time, that's inevitable. They ran out of time, so it seems your time in the future is limited. 2. In the KH universe, one of the most essential rules for time travel is that you can only do it when there is a version of you waiting at the destination. Otherwise, it's impossible. They needed to go back in time to unite the 13 darknesses, which as we saw, failed. 3. Doesn't matter which version exists. So long as there is a version of you in that destination, time travel is possible. Though pretty sure for all of them, it's because a version of Xehanort existed in that time and are all therefore capable of time travel.
