KHBbS Ways Xehanort's plan could have unraveled, part 1: Birth by Sleep
Ruran replied to hatok's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
There's two, a Xanatos Gambit and a Batman Gambit. Basically, the former is where the someone comes up with the "perfect plan" and has all their bases covered from each angle preventing their opponent from ever winning and the later relies on someone using what they know about their opponent's weaknesses and trying to take advantage of them. The Batman Gambit is what Xehanort uses in BbS, trying to manipulate his enemies through their weaknesses and predicting what they will do because of them, the only problem I have with this is that well...Xehanort's opponent's are all kind of stupid... -
KHBbS Ways Xehanort's plan could have unraveled, part 1: Birth by Sleep
Ruran replied to hatok's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
This embodies the main problem I had with BbS: the reason that the plot runs at all is because it relies on the characters being stupid and "chance". This could have been a much smarter and tense game if some of the things on the list did happen and Xehanort manages to get around them rather than everything falling into place with little effort because the characters are dumb. What if Aqua had captured Vanitas? Would she take him to Eraqus for more questioning and have him captive? How would Xehanort get him out or how would Vanitas get himself and what problems could it have brought? What if Terra fled with Ven after Eraqus tried to destroy him? In his rage, would Eraqus have tried to follow them, and what would have happened if he did? How would Xehanort take this to his advantage? What if Aqua grabbed Ven by the ear and dragged him home like she should have? How would Xehanort handle that? Or what if Aqua didn't just so happen to be walking along when she saw Kairi in trouble? Despite the red hearing that Vanitas is out for the PoH Xehanort needs them too. I would have liked to see Xehanort go up against characters who did smart things. He would have appeared more clever and more intimidating if it felt like the his opponents were really giving it their all only to find that their trapped in Xehanort's Batman gambit almost anyway they turned. -
Days was the bane of Riku's character imo. Though some things should be kept in mind. (In no particular order) -Riku was ashamed of what he did and didn't feel that he deserved to be in either Sora nor Kairi's presence. He did a lot of awful things in the first game, knows it, and feels that he has to be punished for it, punished by not facing them until he feels that he can be forgiven or even go as far as remove him self from the SRK trio altogether. -He figured Kairi was better off without him, and at worst, blamed him for what happened. Riku was manipulated but nonetheless he was the one who sunk DI into darkness, got her heart ripped from her body and trapped in Sora, and tried to kill Sora also never realizing that her heart was within him. -Riku never tried to hinder Sora from seeing Kairi, for all intensive purposes, Sora completing his mission of defeating Organization XIII was way more important than Sora making a house call to his not girlfriend and chilling out on the beach. He had time for that afterwards and if anything, Sora paying Kairi a visit with Org.XIII still lurking about may have been more hazardous to Kairi seeing as they were stalking Sora and apparently didn't consider her important until later. -That last one also brings me to Sora himself not wanting to see Kairi until he found Riku. It was part of his promise that he would bring Riku back to Kairi and back home and felt that he couldn't go home until his obligation was complete. -It's pretty apparent that Riku was keeping an eye on Kairi from afar (kind of creepy now that I think about it). He was the one who followed Axel to DI, bringing Pluto with him, and opened that CoD for them to escape. Then managed to track her down again in TWTNW. -Kairi was fine and didn't need anyone to check on her regardless. DI was darkness free and not even the Organization considered Kairi important to there plans or anything until later because of Axel and by that time he had defected from the Org. and his planes for were much different from there's who used her on the fly.

KHCoM Be Honest, Would you Buy a KH Card Game, Based on CoM?
Ruran replied to hatok's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
I bought a starer box years ago but had no one to play with. ;~; Then they went out of print a few months later. Happy I bought them though, even though I don't do anything with them. -
General consensus? It's not very good but not as bad as Days.
-
As a game it's really not bad. It has the most bat-shit crazy (in a good way) game style in the series and I found it really fun. As for story...it doesn't really have one? I think this is where fans hit it hard because for all intensive purposes Re:Coded is "useless" story wise. What little it has is almost completely self contained but I don't find it so much "bad" as it was extremely "simple". As was intended. Re:Coded was never really meant to be a story heavy game but it could have been better, at least from a self contained stand point, but I think it originally being on a cell phone really hurt it because of the time constraints.

KHDays Why was Riku wearing a blind fold?
Ruran replied to Sorual's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
Because blindfolds are sexy. Eyes are the "windows to the soul" so thy always speak the truth. Riku carried the shame of having Ansem inside him and so could only block that truth when he cover his eyes. Also, Nomura keeps using metaphors literally. It's the same reason why Kairi went back to DI at the end of KH1, Nomura said it had to do with the saying "home is where the heart is". Nomi, that's not how it works... -

No one should use it indefinitely. It takes twenty hearts to make the X-Blade so nineteen of those hearts will be virtually enslaved to keep it together while there's one "master" (think of when Vanitas tried to fuse with Ven and Vanitas was dominant for a while). Not to mention it'll summon Kingdom Hearts and restart the Keyblade War. I think Sora might be able to use it for a while but I think the idea is that something like the X-Blade doesn't belong in mortal hands.

KH1 I feel I should know this...Someone please clear this up for me.
Ruran replied to Raziel's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
I know, I'm not debating whether it's fake or not, just stating that it was presented in KH1 at one point but the translation made it confusing~ -
I don't see Vanitas not coming back, he was too important to Xehanort's plans and he invested a lot of time raising the boy. Not to mention that he probably has a part of Xehanort inside him. Though I question if he'll be the "13th", Xehanort might have a spot reserved for him already.

KHBbS Whose ending was more sad? Ventus, Aqua, or Terra?
Ruran replied to marii94's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
I didn't find any of them sad really but if I had to choose it'd probably be Terra. Only because I think he had the least worst story. -
KH1 I feel I should know this...Someone please clear this up for me.
Ruran replied to Raziel's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
It was more like bad translating in this case. There's a topic talking about it on KHI and apparently it was mentioned all the way back in KH1 that that Kingdom Hearts was in fact "fake" but it wasn't mentioned in the English translation. -
I'd like a few extra cutscenes but they're not adding any.

I think it's more sad that people don't know that she's a legitimate main character. Kairi is the type of character that I don't think I could ever take seriously as "bad-ass". After ten years and seven games she's been mostly a DiD and plot device and is just NOW getting to a point where she may be a combatant. Rather than convince me of any potential or spark interest, the fact that she daintily ran around in a skimpy pink dress that barely fits and constantly looks like it'll threaten to fall off while she brandished a weapon that looks like a tree branch she spray painted turned me off to the idea. I do prefer her NOT being a wielder or a combatant because I think the idea that a character HAS to fight to be considered useful or important is extremely overrated. The majority of the main cast consists of Keyblade wielders and combatants and Kairi was one of the few that didn't fall into that category and I appreciated that in a way because one of the things that made her unique as a main character was that she was a PoH and didn't need anything else big to boost her relevance. What they needed to do was have her be important with resolving to DiD default mode so often which I think is the core problem. Characters either: A)Are fight savvy and can take care of them selves and other people. B)Are non-combatant and default to DiD mode and are largely important because they have to be saved. You can have a character that doesn't fight but still be majorly important without getting its ass in trouble and being saved to give the other heros something to do. I would have preferred it if they kept Kairi a non-combatant and important without resolving to a major contribution being that she's in trouble (again) which sets Sora off to save her (again). Though ironically, despite my tangent I don't mind DiDs so long as they're done well.

KH3D What do you think about them now?
Ruran replied to deathrebirthsenshi's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
I don't think it was so much that they had to "rely" on staying inside them rather than they had something to give back. Well, at least in Roxas's case. He held half of Sora's power and had to give it back. It still hasn't been clarified as to why Namine had to go to Kairi because as far as we know she didn't take anything from her. In fact, she took more from Sora. They could exist simultaneously before now it's just a matter of giving them their own bodies. -
KH3D What do you think about them now?
Ruran replied to deathrebirthsenshi's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
Your grammar is a little hard to read... Those are all Q&A from official interviews with Nomura where he's pretty much saying that, yes, Roxas had Ven's heart. Ven's heart is what helped Roxas initially feel and allows Roxas and Sora to dual wield. Wasn't it confirmed that Roxas and Namine already have their own hearts? And nah' I don't think their appearances will change because their current forms are as how they remember themselves. -
KH3D What do you think about them now?
Ruran replied to deathrebirthsenshi's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
I read it as you saying that Nomura said the opposite about Roxas having Ven's heart and that he confirmed that Ven had Roxas's heart. Which of course he couldn't have. But as shown by the other comment he did confirm that Roxas had Ven's heart tho'. -

...He said that Ven had Roxas's heart? -
You sound like Namine I guess.

KH3D What do you think about them now?
Ruran replied to deathrebirthsenshi's topic in Kingdom Hearts - General
Personally I preferred them as pathos characters. Everyone growing their own hearts and being saved so they can exist happily ever after comes across as, I don't know, a little too happy? It also feels a little like it's taking away from the character's sacrifices to me. Well except for Namine because it still hasn't been made clear as to why she had to disappear.
