  1. I came across a term/ploy called "The Grave of the Fireflies Effect" that anime sometimes uses. It's basically "here's a kid, he's dead, now cry." I feel nothing during scenes like that, it's nothing but cheap.

      The Phantom Troupe arc had lots of death in it. Two separate massacres iirc but I liked it cause it wasn't put there just to try and make you cry it just showed how powerful and horrific these people were and made you go "Wow!"

      I wouldn't consider Grave of Fireflies a good example to name shows that just throw characters at you and kill them off, because, death. If you want characters who exist to do nothing but die, go watch Bokurano.

      "Grave of Fireflies Effect" isn't just introducing and killing off characters just like that, the above comments weren't really talking about GoFE. GoFE is killing children in a contrived manner just to generate extra tears, which I won't dogmatically say Grave did cause I'm well aware it's based on true events but...well either way I'm sure Bokurano is a better example from what I've heard.
