You should still preorder this. You don't have to pay for the full amount on a preorder. Just put down the minimum amount which is usually $5 or $10 at GameStop and then pay the rest when you pick it up on release.

I would suggest waiting until you see it on GameStop's official site before calling the stores.

The cards will work, however, the game will only work on North American region 3DS'. The Australian 3DS is PAL region and can't play NA 3DS games. Just go in and change your preorder to the Mark of Mastery edition once GameStop has it in their systems. If you wait until release, they probably won't have any because they only get shipped however many were preordered.
