Steins Gate fits your description, first like 7 episodes are like a comedy with a time travel twist and after that you see some real character development, plot twists and a great story. Angel Beats, Mirai Nikki, Another and Code Geass are also pretty good.

I got them. Nothing special though, only good games were littlebigplanet and infamous, which i already owned. -
