What's your favourite Final Fantasy battle system?
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
Seems like lots of people like Lightning Returns. Might need to try that game out. -
What's your favourite Final Fantasy battle system?
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
Isn't X-2's combat similar to FFIV-IX in that you can choose between Wait or Active ATB? -
Episodic Kingdom Hearts 3?
atheist123 replied to atheist123's topic in Kingdom Hearts III & Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind
Kingdom Hearts is designed around worlds, which are separate levels, so I think it similar to Hitman in a way. It isn't an open world game like FFXV, for instance. The FF7 example was just to show that Square are using non-conventional business models even for their own first party games. -
I'm assuming this only counts physical sales. That seems a bit low for PC otherwise.

With the announcement that both FFVII Remake and Hitman (2016) are being released across multiple episodes/installments, it is possible (but unlikely) that Square Enix might change KH3's business model to match this new development strategy. So my question is: if Kingdom Hearts 3 became episodic how would you feel?I think there are some positives such as being able to play the game earlier but waiting a month between each world would be painful.

Exploration-based games like open-world RPGs benefit from awesome graphics. Games like Witcher 3 and Skyrim are much more immersive on PC with higher quality graphics. For games like Kingdom Hearts where there is very little exploration, it doesn't matter so much. Games like COD also do not benefit much from good graphics. High framerates and resolutions are more important. With low resolutions it is harder to see enemies and low framerates make the game feel sluggish.

This article by Gamespot is interesting: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/square-enix-answers-final-fantasy-15-fan-questions/1100-6433707/In response to the last question the devs said: "The equivalent to difficulty level settings in FFXV is a system where you can switch between different battle modes," lead game designer Takizawa Masahi said. "By having this ability to switch modes, we want to make it so that both players who like action oriented, technical gameplay and also those who want to fight at a slower, more relaxed pace can all enjoy the combat in their own style. This switching system is a key part of the gameplay that we decided to introduce based on the feedback we received from the Episode Duscae demo. We will go into more detail about the system closer to the game's launch so stay tuned for more information."It'll be interesting to see what the other battle mode is. It sounds similar to the switching between ATB and turn based seen in older FF games, but for an action game. I have no idea what the combat in the other mode will be like.

I find Tomb Raider: Anniversary outdated and boring
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
I didn't like the reboot, so maybe I'll go back and try Anniversary. I could possibly have the opposite opinion to you. -
Yeah, Kojima was involved with the story. But Kojima == Konami. I guess the situation is more like Nier Automata. Platinum is doing all the work with some supervision from another company and the director of previous games in the series.
-
True, but developer is more important. You wouldn't call Bravely Default a Nintendo game since they published it in the U.S..
-
Play Metal Gear Rising. It's a game developed by PlatinumGames not Konami but set in the Metal Gear universe.

I'm not saying that your opinion doesn't matter, just that I disagree. Timeless River still involves time travel, and two Petes existing at the same time shows that time paradoxes do not exist in Kingdom Hearts. Ansem SoD is Xehanort's heart possessing Riku's body, so he is a different entity. Master Xehanort in the current timeline is Master Xehanort's heart possessing Terra's body, so they are technically different entities.
-
I don't think it was that stupid. It explained why Ansem SoD was in Destiny Islands, and time travel has been in the series since KH2 so it's not like that was a new concept introduced in one title, It's possible that X-3 has a logical (using that term very broadly for a Square game) story... Anyway, it would be fun to return to that world.

Grand Theft Auto V: 8/10. Fun campaign and the online is alright. Story isn't amazing but it is well crafted. Red Dead Redemption: Never played BioShock Infinite: 10/10. Fun campaign with an awesome and engaging story. Highly recommended. L.A. Noire: I've only played it for a few hours but it never hooked me. I'd give it a 6/10 from what I've played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: 8/10, Not quite as good as modern open world RPGs but still fun if you can get past the introduction. Massive open world with lots of gameplay options. The swordplay is very basic and not that engaging but being able to use stealth, magic and ranged combat makes it more interesting.

Rise of the Tomb Raider confirmed for January launch on PC
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
Any proof of that? Or are you just assuming that a GOTY edition will launch at the end of 2016? -
Square Enix's 2016 line-up compared to 2010 for NA & EU
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
I'm basing my opinion off Bravely Default. BD>4HOL so to me a sequel to BD is better than 4HOL. If we are comparing two lists of games then we need to estimate the quality of each title.Either way, we don't know all the games Square is publishing this year so it is hard to make a call... If I was doing this comparison I would remove straight ports with no new content as well as mobile games. They aren't very relevant imo.And also unconfirmed games of course. -

I didn't enjoy 4 Heroes of Light much tbh -
Square Enix's 2016 line-up compared to 2010 for NA & EU
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
It's much the same. 2010 is probably a tiny bit better since it is had a new KH game instead of just a remaster. But I also love the Bravely series so that kinda counters BBS. -
Final Fantasy IX launching "Early 2016" on Steam
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
KH3 might if it gets a digital release on PS4 and XB1. -
VR is here and it's firetrucking expensive
atheist123 replied to Sora96's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, that's the same as me. I don't think I will buy one but I think there is a market for it. PC gamers often spend high amounts for things which aren't necessary... $700+ for a 4K computer screen, $200 keyboards, $100 mice, $300 headsets, etc. -

Have you played many games on the Oculus? -

Kairi might be OP in KH3
atheist123 replied to Enix's topic in Kingdom Hearts III & Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind
Princesses of Heart aren't that strong. It took 6 of them to hold back the darkness from the Final Keyhole. I doubt Kairi would be strong enough to defeat the 13 darknesses herself. She will definitely be strong but Riku and Sora have their own powers which make them powerful (Rikus control over darkness and Soras connections with other people's hearts). Plus more experience using the Keyblade. -
I prefer faster paced games. Nearly every game mechanic should be introduced within the first few hours. I also hated the character switching, it felt contrived how they separated up the characters. Once all the characters came together and you could choose your own team it became enjoyable to me. It felt way too on rails for my taste up to then.

FF13 has horrible pacing issues. I hated the first 10 hours of the game and rage quit. I played 13-2 and enjoyed it from the start. That then gave me the motivation to finish 13 and I eventually enjoyed that after another 10 hours or so.
