(( Muahahahahahaaaaa! We're in the car on our way home. :'D )) "Piss off and leave me alone," Zeph tried to snarl in response, but his voice was cracking painfully, falling and rising erratically as he fought to control it. If anything, he hugged his arms tighter to his body, thinking that maybe clenching his teeth might stop them chattering, might even his breathing out even just a touch. It didn't.
-
Visibly flinching, Zeph very deliberately shifted out of the way as Scarlet approached; as though he was trying to keep a distance now, between himself and both the girls. He didn
-
"You seem to be enjoying yourself, all of a sudden," Zeph snapped in response, finally letting go of her. Despite the fact the light was still dim, and he still could barely make out anything even when he squinted in a vain attempt to improve his eyesight, he was overwhelmed with the urge not to touch her- not to trust her. Because he couldn't trust anyone. How had he come to forget that, after all these years? Grinding his teeth together, he wrapped his arms around his waist, effectively hugging himself. Even in the gloom, it was probably apparent he'd paled considerably, his dark hair startlingly black by comparison.
-
"I beg to differ," Zeph broke off humming to speak. "Humming is exactly what none of them will expect a Slasher to be doing. Besides, I carry a wonderful tune." He started up again, the tune completely different. Though, that was because he couldn't remember the last one, and was pretty much tone deaf, so attempting anything recognisable as an actual song would cause him to fail miserably. His humming trailed off as they started to approach the temple, though- he didn't stop, but it slowed considerably, dropping in volume the closer they got. Without really realising what he was doing, he shuddered.
-
Zeph walked along in silence for a few moments- it couldn't have been more than thirty seconds until he spoke again, but the silence felt incredibly long to him. He was so used to the sound of his own voice, it was an alien experience having only the whistling of the breeze in the background. Instead of straining to make out the shapes from the shadows ahead, he focused his gaze on his own feet. Then the quiet got too much for him, and with an overly dramatic deep breath, he started to hum. Loudly. It was a hopelessly tuneless hum, hovering somewhere between "Puff the Magic Dragon" and a funeral march. Still, it was, to him, much better than stumbling along in silence. Zeph could see the chill seemed to be bothering Luna a little, but felt none of it himself- he, after all, was wearing a multitude of layers, and his hooded jumper and jacket alone would probably have kept him warm by themselves.
-
For a moment, Zeph was glad of the dark, because blood flushed to his face. Of course, after only a few seconds, he realised the gloom was only a problem for him, and that she could see just fine, and gave a genuine scowl, flicking his head so his hair fell out of his eyes. It was mostly because, he knew she was right. He really wasn't prepared. Not that he'd ever admit that in a million years. "I saw it coming," he lied, voice wavering only slightly. "Had it been a Striker's weapon, I would have ducked, but since I knew it was most likely yours..."
-
Luna had pulled him away a little too quickly, and Zeph stumbled, but hoped she wouldn't really take much notice. It wasn't his fault it was already pretty easy to trip over his own feet, and the dark certainly wasn't paying him any favours. Assuming an injured air, Zeph didn't loosen his grip in the slightest, practically marching along, nose in the air. "You wouldn't mind?" He turned to look at her for a moment, raising his eyebrows to mock her, before facing ahead again, fighting a smile. "And put my guard up? Just because you need to be always on edge when there are Strikers around. Some of us have such amazing talent we don't have to worry."
-
"Oh, I'm far from simple minded, Lu. You wouldn't believe the amount of things that run through my head. And probably wouldn't care to hear the majority of them. Do you know how endlessly entertaining having a mind of pure filth can be, on occasion?" Even though he couldn't see her face in the gloom, he still detected the slight weakening in her tone, but for once chose not to pick her up on it, starting to try and continue stomping along the street, dragging her along with him. Sadly, due to his lack of vision, he very nearly careered off right into a wall, only just pausing when his elbow caught the damp brick.
-
Due to the gloom, Zeph didn't realised she had stopped, and walked right into Luna. He took a step back, too stubborn to apologise, instead raising his hands in mock surrender. He opened his mouth to retort, and then realised, after squinting through the darkness for a long moment, that her attention was directed elsewhere. Pulling a face, he turned to look behind him, then back again, frowning. Unable to think of what could have caught her attention, he instead smirked. "Spot that mystery hot guy I mentioned?"
-
"I think you're severely underestimating our chances, Lu," Zeph replied casually despite her tirade. "Even in the dark, I'm sure I'd be able to battle our way through the Striker masses to freedom. No need to be so worried- if we fall and someone gets the jump on us, so long as you stay behind me, I'm sure you'll be in one piece. I don't think the 'Superior' would be entirely thrilled if we went back and you were missing a leg or something." He fell back into step properly again, even though he wasn't particularly paying much attention to where he was putting his feet. Not that Zeph really cared- a slip to him was nothing. Stepping in dog poo or the like, however, would have been a problem.
-
"Although I have many talents, Lu- lying at charades, hiding when I'm incredibly drunk, taking other people's clothes without them noticing, not to mention I make a mean cheese and pickle sandwich... unfortunately, the ability to detect prostitutes just by their scent escaped me. Such a shame..." He pretended to sigh, eyes sparking with amusement, and for a moment his left foot skidded awkwardly on the stone. Zeph swore colorfully, but didn't lose his balance, stumbling but managing to right himself long before he would have fallen.
-
A snort escaped him, seeing her expression. He considered for a moment assuming an injured air, but his expression was already filled with such a barely-contained glee he thought it a shame to go through all the trouble. He'd always got a kick out of winding Luna up, but now was just such a perfect opportunity. He was so thrilled by her initial reaction, he didn't even care at how murky the surroundings were- unlike most of the others, he found seeing in the dark fairly tricky, but it wasn't as if he was scared of it. Ha, what a thought- a Slasher, scared of the dark? "I've heard of it," he replied after a long pause, flashing her a smug smile. "I just choose to believe the need for it doesn't apply to me."
-
Rolling his eyes, Zeph clung onto her arm, practically shoving his shoulder against hers- something quite difficult to do, given his height, but he pretty much managed it. "Me, mess up?" He sniped, then appeared to go into deep thought for a moment. Not that he was- he was just trying to mess with her. "I bet if some hot guy wandered across the street in front of you, you'd be off like a shot."
-
(( :'D Thank youuuuu~ )) Tessa raised her arm to strike, but paused, seeing her brothers lips move, trying to force out another word. He didn't make any sound, save for a weak groan out of the back of his throat, but her eyes narrowed. "What?! Trying to summon something, Will? Can you even bear to do it, after-" "Didn't... want... you to suffer either," he mumbled, voice weak, like he was already drifting in and out of consciousness. Staring down at Will, a small, sad smile stole onto her face. Raiden knew he should at least try, try to crawl a little while further- but, why bother? He just slumped there, eyes closed, so he didn't have to look at the blood. He didn't need any kind of grisly reminder as to what had happened with his father, not if the man was going to kill him again, like he expected. And after all, who would bother to stop him? He was already dead, what did one more death for him matter?
-
Zeph scowled for a moment, straightening up so he was standing properly. "How it must pain you to deliver that news," he retorted. Then his frown quite literally turned upside down, when it occured to him just how much he could irritate her- after all, so long as he didn't stray from the mission, there was no way she'd risk getting away from him, not for long. Knowing it would probably piss her off, he leaped forwards, forcibly linking an arm through hers. "Alright, mission time!" he enthused, sticking his tongue out in Luna's direction.
-
"You get in trouble for slacking, Lu?" Zeph, who had been sifting through some of the mess on the floor, turned abruptly when he realised Luna was back in the room, hoping she hadn't spotted his soaked through jeans. He'd been crouching on the floor, so turning so fast left him kneeling awkwardly, half standing and half not. Knowing the nickname had irritated only meant he'd definitely continue to use it.
-
Raising his eyebrows, Zeph swung his legs out, sitting up and dropping his hands from behind his head. The corner of his lips twitched, threatening to smirk again, as he dropped his gaze from her. Picking at a stray string or two at the cuff of his jacket, he didn't look up as he spoke again. "Don't think of going anywhere? What if I need the bathroom?" he asked, voice thick with sarcasm, almost as a parting gift for her as she left.
-
"Why the scared face? Surely I'm not that terrifying," he mocked, dropping the pout. Zeph crossed one leg over the other, snuggling back further into the sofa with a relaxed sigh. He glanced across the room for a moment, taking in the clutter on the floor- and trying to spy his own belongings amongst it. Sadly, he had a tendancy to just throw things carelessly and forget where he'd left them, so finding his own things would prove... well, just way too much work. Not to mention his pants still weren't dry- in fact, they were anything but comfortable, but he knew if he took them off with Luna around she'd practically murder him. Still, it might be worth it, just to see her reaction.
-
Zeph blinked, staring, face still infuriatingly smug, up at her, then pouted. It wasn't an expression that was particularly fitting on, well, he was at best an overgrown teenager, so he supposed, the face of a young adult. He believed it made him look younger, but in reality it just made him look even moreimmature. He unlinked his fingers to push his bangs back impatiently, then returned it to the back of his head, contemplating his answer. "'Slacker'? How dare you call me such a thing, Lu~? At least I get someone's number once in a while, which is at least something. I think you'll find we both dragged up one big fat pile of nothin' tonight, slacker."
-
Seeing the look on her face, Zeph's grin faded a little, but didn't fully leave his expression as he raised his eyebrows. "Well, Lu, if it slips again, someone might think it's personal, and snitch that you're neglecting your fellow Slashers. Wouldn't that be fun?" He lifted his arms, locking his fingers together and resting them under his head, blinking up at her, trying to look as innocent as he could- all because he knew that very expression, when paired with his usual smirk, usually really pissed people off.
-
"C'mon, Lu, lighten up!" Zeph grinned up at her, kicking his feet at the bottom of the sofa. "There's plenty of room on the floor, and I'm tired. I don't see what the huge issue is- besides, you should be angry with her, too, right? Jeez, it's just unfair how you always take it out on poor little me." He carried a wounded tone, then, even though that grin was still on his face, his eyes sparking. "And, by the way, it's very rude to hang up on people, no matter how dull you find the conversation."
-
"What's the point in taking it seriously?" He yawned. "It's not like you got anything out of tonight, is it?" After being hit by Luna's hair, he rolled his eyes and leant back, standing up and then vaulting over the back of the sofa, landing with a thump and proceeding in taking up as much room on it as possible. "Maybe she ran into that hot thief and got his, slash her number," he commented.
-
Despite the smack he'd recieved to the head, Zeph was laughing. "Aw, really? Well, there goes my fun. And, "immature"? I prefer to use the word "charming", Miss Uptight." He realised then that being behind the sofa was the best place for him to stand- his still soaked through pants weren't that visible there, after all. So, he leant forwards again, resting his elbows on the back of the sofa.
-
Zeph strolled into the base, and was about to burst in with as much noise as possible in his usual obnoxious way, but when he saw Destiny. The smirk creeping across his face again, he slipped across the room, making as little noise as possible. Tiptoe-ing around the objects strewn across the floor, he made his way over to her, squeezing behind the sofa, all to lean in, right next to her ear. "Boo!" he snapped, as loudly as he could.
-
Zeph had only just trudged his way to the entrance of the alley, and was turning back onto the street, when the flash of red caught him by surprise. He stumbled off to the side, blinking hard and letting out a muttered stream of profanities as he tried to wait for the haze in his vision to fade. "Urgh, give a guy some warning!" he complained, very nearly stomping his foot like a toddler would. However, after a moment, he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger. "Alright, alriiiiiiiiight, I'm coming," he groaned, dropping his hand from his face and letting himself head back.
