    this is going to sound awful, but really the only thing you can do is suck it up (at least about the childish thing). try talking to him and trying to see things his way. if he only wants you to use the printer for school, then only use the printer for school. if he actually starts abusing you, then make sure you let someone know right away. but as it is right now, there's really not much you can do.

    this, basically. telling someone that they should be happy and forcing them to "look on the bright side" (when there might not even BE a bright side) isn't going to help at all, and it's actually really insensitive too.
