[SPOILERS] 08-29-16 Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] special episode

Jake

After the conclusion of Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]'s story on August 25th, 2016, a special short episode was held. This follows the events of Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]'s ending and marks the end of Kingdom Hearts χ[chi].

You can check out screenshots and a summary below, in the spoilers tab. We will have translations up soon.

The player has flashbacks of Skuld and Ephemer, then it cuts to the player waking up in Enchanted Dominion with Chirithy. In the end, it shows Maleficent apparently mentioning Sora and then it cuts to "RECONNECT: KINGDOM HEARTS".

She mentioned Sora, so what? Has the player been transported to the present Kingdom Hearts timeline now?

Did Maleficent go back to Enchanted Dominion straight after DDD? Because it hasn't appeared in any game besides BBS and this one.

Those thorns must be from when you fight her during BBS as Aqua, because the bridge gets covered in them during that fight. So this has to be the present Kingdom Hearts timeline, else this makes no sense since she mentions Sora.

That's the only logical explanation I can think of and yet it's still baloney because how would the player even get to the present timeline?

Disappointing.......................................................................

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with the whole ending. Everything was either vague, like this secret ending stuff, or came out feeling rushed (which, tbh, it probably was).

While I think it's best to just wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 to come out to finally get some answers, I personally think the player was teleported to the future during the events of KH3. Reasons why is that she already knows of Sora, Donald and Goofy and is apparantly living in Enchanted Dominion. Enchanted Dominion was devoured by darkness during KH1 but was restored in the end. So... this takes place after KH1, we know that.

In fact, this exact cutscene could've took place during KH3. If that's so, the future extra episodes of Unchained, we might be able to play missions and see Sora in his KH3 outfit roaming around these worlds with Donald and Goofy but you are unable to interact with them.

That's why it's probably called Unchained. It's because we broken out of one timeline and into another. Basically, Season 2 of Unchained will take place during events of KH3. My personal theory. This also could mean we can be able to explore some worlds that will be in KH3 like Tangled world or Big Hero 6, or even Zootopia. How Season 2 will end, is a mystery

OK, I THIS IS MY THEORY. This is CONNECTED to Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded after Maleficent and Pete escape from Sora and the others.

Following their evacuation from the Datascape, Maleficent mentions to Pete about the ancient Book of Prophecies. According to a legend, it is said to be capable of transcribing events that have yet to take place, and even has the potential to conjure new things, creating entire worlds filled with beings and powers of those future events. Maleficent wants to search for a connection between the Book of Prophecies and the Datascape, even wondering if there is also a link between the book and Jiminy's Journal. http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Book_of_Prophecies

The Foretellers use the Book of Prophecies to create worlds of the future, meaning, what Ephemer said might actually be true. Ephemer explains that the worlds you're fighting in are an illusion created in a singular world to allow the harvesting of Lux in one convenient location. These worlds were conjured up by the Book of Prophecies, possessed by the five Foretellers. Those five have ordered their wielders to collect Lux in opposition to the other Unions, but have never disclosed the exact reason why. http://www.khinsider.com/characters/ephemera

In my THEORY, Maleficent ACTUALLY found a CONNECTION and traveled to the Book of Prophecies/KHX.

She says, "Seems like it went well, didn't it?" (meaning she found the connection and got through)

Then she says, "Besides just that, where in the world did he go off to again?" (Pete wanders off and she forgot where)

Lastly, "Well, it's fine. Sora and the others can't meddle in this world. Because nothing can get through, right?" (She must have blocked/broke the connection after getting through)

I know this seems far fetched, but it's the only thing I can make out of this cluster of confusion.

Not Re: Coded as a whole though, rather, this particular cutscene. I have a good feeling that Maleficent enters the realm of sleep after trying to kidnap Minnie...

Considering that Nomura has already used the Greek letter χ(chi) to say 'key' blade, I think maleficent's consistent mispronunciation of datascape as date escape  (and yet near the end - (around 1:35) can say "data") is a hint that not only does the book of Prophecies prophesy the future, but contains  (or can create) a realm within which one can 'escape dates' - and time.

I think that's the Unchained realm. Unchained from time and space. Free to flow along realms of light and darkness and sleep. Hmm Xehanort's time travel might even make use of this.

Ephemer is the official translation for his name. He's Ephemera in Japan and Ephemer in America. They probably dropped the "a" becuse it's typically associated with female names in English and Ephemer is a boy. They probably wanted to make it clear since it's hard to tell in chi.

It's Ephemer in both languages. Ephemera was just an unofficial translation. (Check our gallery/article for the screenshot of the KHX credits saying Ephemer, not Ephemera)

Is anyone else as confused as I am?

I fell like this story is just spiraling down a rabbit hole and nothing is clear...

I kinda figured we were in the world of Sleep. But what is the time frame on all this, the Keyblade war is supposed to have been 1000 years before KH1 was it not?

If the Keyblade War happened in the realm of Sleep, how did it affect the real world?

One thing that had me wondering afterwards, was the time period of the secret episode. Is this our Maleficient or like we had in DDD, sleeping world versions or characters? If we say it is our one and I believe it is, are we now approaching our own time period? It would be interesting if this was happening parallel to KH3.

Now, instead of having answers, we have more questions.
