[UPDATED] [RUMOR] Screenshots of a possible Monsters, Inc. world for Kingdom Hearts III allegedly leaked on ResetEra and on Imgur

Leamax

[WARNING: These screenshots have NOT been confirmed to be legitimate, so please take this only as a RUMOR].

Screenshots have recently surfaced on ResetEra, detailing a possible Monsters, Inc. world for Kingdom Hearts III. ResetEra user Wrestleman uploaded two screenshots that were shown to him on his Discord server by someone who got them from an unknown source who said they were taken from an FTP server. The screenshots show Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the lobby at the Scare Factory fighting what seems to be Unversed. Also present are Mike Wazowski and Sully, who appear to be party members for this world.

The first screenshot features Sora and the others facing off against what appears to be a monster Unversed (notice the symbol on its head), along with a few Flood Unversed. Sora, Donald, and Goofy have a more monster appearance. Sora’s legs have a striped look with a tail and he has horns coming from his ears. Donald appears to be a blue gremlin with little wings. Goofy is green from head to toe with his eyes poking out. Sora, Donald, and Goofy appear to be using their default weapons for this fight.

The HUD appears to be the default with Sora, Donald, and Goofy still in the regular Kingdom Hearts III outfits with no changes on their icons, however on Donald and Goofy’s icon, there is kanji written, meaning “Temporary," so the HUD may not be finished yet. The HUD also shows Mike and Sully’s icons in both their fight mode and in stationary mode.

The second screenshot has Sora and the others standing around, most likely after the fight. This shot appears to be from a developer’s point of view, displaying information about the status of the game. You can view the translations below:

Wrestleman also uploaded a screenshot of an alleged leak of a Frozen world in Kingdom Hearts III, but it was quickly deleted by Wrestleman as others brought it to his attention that it was just a screenshot from the movie.

UPDATE [Dec. 15, 2017]: On closer inspection, the Sora model used for the HUD in this recent alleged Monsters, Inc. Kingdom Hearts III leak is the old HUD model from the Rock Troll Heartless screenshot from MAGIC 2017. It is not the updated HUD model from the new Kingdom Hearts III Orchestra and Toy Story trailers.

UPDATE [Dec. 23, 2017]: New screenshots of the alleged Kingdom Hearts III Monsters, Inc. world leak have surfaced on Imgur. The new batch of screenshots includes an introduction of Boo and the door vault. There are also a few shots of debugging and comparisons with the Kingdom Shader. You can view them in the gallery below:

Translations are available for a few of the screenshots, thanks to Mio-chan. You can see them below:

That third image gives me FFXV vibes.

Not in a negative way, just the setting and the lighting reminds me of that one fight where you have to sneak into some base and fight a mech (or something).

Wow this is such a treat. IT HAS TO BE REAL!

Just threesmall things that I noticed what seems to be a bit odd.

1) The maps on picture one and two are different located.
2) In picture 1 it seems like the gang is in a save room where the party just walks free, and you can talk to. Like you have in Kingdom Hearts 2.
In those rooms you normally can't see the party members in your hud. But in the screenshot you can. This could easily a development thing.

example

3) In picture 1 on the drive gauge you see ''Focus'' while on the other 2 we see ''max''. Again this could be a development thing.

EDIT: MORE LEAKS!

If there is going to be a monster's incorporated world in kingdom hearts 3, I'd assume it would look a lot better then the builds we are seeing in these pictures, assuming the leak if it's real and assuming what we are seeing in the pictures are older builds of the game.

With Focus and Max, they are switching back and forth. It was the same thing in KH BBS 0.2.

I would leave this to the professionals but what the heck? New screenshots have resurfaced on the Internet which to me shows this new world to be legit. Heres a link to a Youtuber talking bout the new screens:

Inspecting these screenshots i think we can safely assume that this world will be a retrend just like past worlds in KH titles. To me this would make sense as having a brand new story within this world wouldn't necessarily feel right and especially since Boo is seen in the screens. The same can be said for Tangled if you put the ending of that movie in mind. And (this s a personal opinion) but I'm hoping this is all the pixar we get. I think for kh3 specifically 2 Pixar films is good enough as we need more room for other films. And with the fact that kh3 will have less disney worlds than kh2 i think we're good with just Toy Story and Monsters Inc. What do you think though? Have these screens convinced you yet?

Okay so there were 12 Disney worlds in KHII (13 if incl Timeless River as separate) and if there's gonna be less I assume it'll land between 8-10 Disney worlds? We already know (for certain) 4. Incl one Pixar world. I feel like maybe one more Pixar world at most, for a total of 3. But no more than that. I understand where you're coming from.

Kingdom Hearts 1 had 9 worlds, and Nomura never said KH3 wouldn't have less that Kingdom Hearts 1 only 2. So there might be 10 Disney worlds in final. leaving only 4 questioned who they could be.

It's pretty obvious we can't be saved from Frozen appearing and if MI it makes it, then we already have 6 Disney worlds. Leaving only four left.

I first saw the article with the first screenshots and thought “well since these have the old HUD, it must be fanmade.” However, seeing these is making me pause for a second and is making me wonder if we have a world that will be announced soon or at D23 JP.

Gahhh, these newest leaks! So many! Okay, for the first time around with just the first leaks, I was a bit skeptical, but at the same time curious! But now that more of these screenshots have surfaced...they look way too good for someone to just fake them! So maybe these images are actually real, and as everyone here has said, this could be screenshots from early on in Kingdom Hearts III's development cycle! If that's the case, then just imagine how amazing a Monsters Inc. world would look like with how far the game has come!? Gahhh, I need this to be real now! X_X

This is the best KH leak we've seen so far, but I think it's fake. It really does look great and I wouldn't mind a Monsters, Inc. world.

This would be pretty hard to fake  as stated here

When I first saw these screenshots I was expecting them to be fake, but the more I nitpicked the more evidence I found to lend to them being real. The first thing I'd like to mention is that I use Unreal Engine 4 as part of my profession / schooling on a regular basis, and I can say especially after these new screenshots that if someone faked this they put it a lot of effort and really, *really* did their homework.

Firstly, the HUD:

UE4's idea of source control is a bit old-fashioned in that it can't have two people working on the same asset without getting really confused since UE4 uses binary assets instead of something like XML. What you tend to do instead is have a work-in-progress version of an asset that has all the functionality you need that the developers interact with while the people / person in charge of the asset in question works on the actual version. This would explain the old-style HUD and in particular the "temporary" kanji next to Donald and Goofy's icons.

Secondly, Mike and Sully:

The most recent Monsters, Inc. game I could find assets for online do in fact contain 3D assets for Mike and Sully that could be traced or adapted to UE4. However, the models I found contain inaccuracies relative to the movie that the models featured in these screenshots do not contain those inaccuracies.

Thirdly, the particle effects:

KHIII's particles have a fairly distinct look to them, and while one could theoretically recreate them by guessing and checking, the Fire particle system has both near-identical if not actually identical post-processing effects, particle distribution, and correct interactions with the floor.

Fourthly, Sora and co.'s animations:

There are various tools one can use to extract previous Kingdom Hearts game's animation. While none of the leaked Monsters, Inc. world contains actual footage, it's difficult to tell for sure. However, these animations would likely not work if put directly in UE4 and would have to either be nearly completely re-worked, retargeted to a new rig, or rotoscoped—all three methods are time-consuming and annoying. Plus, in the screenshot with Mike and Sully staring at Sora in a dim-lit room (that has 45 fps for some reason) Sora is in the middle of the animation where he is dismissing his Keyblade, going from combat stance to normal standing. This particular behavior has only been seen in KH2.8 by Aqua, whose combat and idle stances are different and don't have this frame in the middle, meaning Aqua's animation set hasn't been copy-pasted here. This frame showing up in a screenshot is not the kind of thing you'd do on purpose, it's the kind of thing that would happen incidentally.

Fifthly (I've never had to count this high in this system, is this right?), the newly leaked environments:

Sure, the lobby itself is fairly simple and could be recreated with relative ease. However, it is eerily accurate, and the surplus of new environments from the more recent leak mean the amount of effort a faker or group of fakers would have had to go through to make that many environments look that good while matching KHIII's art style AND being accurate to Monsters, Inc. (where applicable) would be enormous.

Sixthly, Sora and co.'s clothing:

People have recently started to gain access to KH2.8's models and have consequently been able to have access to UE4 KH models. However, last I checked, Sora, Donald, and Goofy had not been found and if they had they would not include Sora's KHIII jacket / gloves as seen in these screenshots. Either these were painstakingly recreated down to the normal map or they're legit.

Lastly, the developer notations on the screenshots:

Likely what these screenshots are is one or more developers showing others different aspects of the levels, environment, shaders, sections where frame rate drops, triangle count issues, use of the command line to gather data, etc., hence the notations. I've put my copy of UE4 into Japanese localization temporarily to look up some of these stats to make sure they appear the same as in these screenshots and the ones I could recreate do in fact use that wording. Right down to the "lighting needs to be rebuilt" message being in English for some reason. Furthermore, the triangle count, shader complexity viewer, texture cache size, memory usage, etc. are all within reasonable bounds for a AAA game. While this doesn't necessarily lend to legitimacy, this does lend to the annotations and on-screen stats themselves are likely not faked.

…Long story short, if these screenshots are indeed fake, whoever made them is skilled enough to have been working on KHIII for over three years.

Right, silly me.

Don't worry it happens I almost believed it was true... But than you remember MR Nomura can't speak/type/write English even though he works on this series since 2002:)
