Disney was developing a Kingdom Hearts title for iOS & Android named "Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys" in 2013, since cancelled

DChiuch

A former programmer at Disney Interactive has revealed the name and details of a cancelled Kingdom Hearts title. The game was called "Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys", and is said to have been deep in development during 2013 by Wideload Games, a studio of Disney Interactive. Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys was being developed using Unity and C#, and would have been released for the iPhone, iPad and Android markets if it weren't for its cancellation sometime early 2014.

Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys was to be a "mobile, free-to-play action RPG", and from the game's development summary, we know that it would have at least contained items, crafting, an inventory, user interface, and networked high score portions. Unfortunately, no more details about the game are known.

Working at Disney Interactive (Wideload Games Studio):

Worked in a small studio setting creating mobile video games using Unity and C# that targeted the iPhone / iPad / Android markets. [...] I assisted with prototyping and implementation of the item, crafting, inventory, user interface, and networked high score portions of a mobile Kingdom Hearts action RPG title. Additionally, I created multiple debugging tools, including a network logging service that allowed games running wireless to automatically send debugging information to a central location.

Summary of the game:

Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys

2013

A mobile, free to play action rpg for iOS and Android phones, written with Unity and C#. The project was deep into development before being cancelled several months after I left the studio.

It is unknown if Kingdom Hearts: Fragmented Keys is related to Kingdom Hearts Online, another Kingdom Hearts title that was revealed by a former Disney Interactive employee in 2013. Kingdom Hearts Online was being developed by South Korean studio "Studio EX" for Disney Interactive, as early as January 2013 and at least until November 2013, also using Unity for development and targeting "smartphones and the web". Due to the two different studios involved and different titles for the games, it seems as if these are two separate cancelled projects, both in 2013 and both managed by Disney Interactive.

Also, as a side note: u/NDABreaker2 on reddit today has claimed to have come across a leaked screenshot of the cancelled game. There is no proof that this is a legitimate screenshot, so unlike the above verified information, this screenshot is not verified at all. We have contacted the reddit user and they have privately given us solid proof that this screenshot and information is legitimate. Nonetheless, here it is.

They just had to make us play Chi as if we can solve the clues of the stories in that game. Heck,I know there's a translation for it,but it's not enough...

surely this is because they shifted all of their resources to porting KH chi to iOS/Android instead, the version that will finally bring the game over to the West. i can dream

since there aren't any screenshots for this, I can't really comment on whether this was a good decision or not. seems like it was developed by Disney without SE's involvement though, so basically another 'V Cast'... though I don't know what to think about that either since no one played V Cast lol

Am I the only one who would've loved this?

I mean, assuming that it wouldn't be cannon, it would've been awesome playing this on the go when I'm bored or something.

I, for one am glad this was cancelled one main reason being that I don't have either of those types of phones so I wouldn't have been able to play it anyway. Second, what information on this game would be linked to the main games? Would it have any sort of connection? Who would we play as? Would it be like a mobile version of [x] Chi? Was it going to be for English players? Or just the Japanese players like, how they did with Chi? Seriously, come up with better ideas or scrap those ideas and realize the fact that we or, for most of us only truly care about the progress of KHIII and how long we'll have to wait to play it. Just telling you like it is.

Whatever, it would have been exclusive for Japan.

Lol. Yeah, that's why it was being developed in English.

Where were you on this one Sora96?! Haha Anyway, jokes aside this was actually kinda cool, I'd have done it

Ummm, what? Sleeping? I don't follow Disney in depth. Haha.

Because the last KH mobile game was so amazing

hint: it wasn't

To be fair, that game was made on a phone too weak to even consider putting such a project on.
