Disney Infinity Discontinued

In an 2016 fiscal earnings report released by The Walt Disney Company, it was listed that the company would be discontinuing Disney Infinity. Disney Interactive later released a statement on their website confirming this news.

Unfortunately, this announcement confirms that there will be no future collaborations between the Kingdom Hearts series and Disney Infinity. The Kingdom Key was announced as the Ultimate Unlock for Disney Infinity 3.0 at D23 2016 and attendees also received special power discs that allowed their Mickey figures to don his outfit from the Kingdom Hearts series. The Ultimate Unlock became available in Disney Infinity 3.0 as of March 15, 2016.

Disney Infinity will release two final play sets for the upcoming movies Alice Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory before ceasing production. The Alice Through The Looking Glass play set will release May 2016 and the Finding Dory play set will release in June 2016.

What other sort collaborations would you like to see Kingdom Hearts be involved with in the future? Let us know in the comments.

Can't say I expected this to happen...at all, but in truth I see no issues ahead for Kingdom Hearts. Disney licenses out the characters and worlds to Square-Enix who make and publish the game, although Disney Interactive distribute it, correct? That can probably be resolved easily, plus this might lead to Disney getting off Square's back more than it already has over the years.

Now, while it may not have produced quality Movie Tie-ins/Licensed Games over the years, though a few were pretty good, I'm going to miss Disney Games.

May we see more excellent movies in the future from Disney and may Kingdom Hearts be a prosperous and profitable series. :)

wow where'd this come from? i was under the impression that the game and figures were doing well. i mean you'd think "Disney Infinity" would be easy enough to market towards kids at least.

Well, so much for a Disney Infinity 4.0 that would have been fully dedicated to Kingdom Hearts!  That, I would have loved to get! :/

But well, I never played the previous three Disney Infinity games, so I don't have any sort of connection to them, but for all those gamers who have played all the installments, I'm sorry that this is happening right now!  Didn't expect this to happen though, considering how big of a company Disney is in terms of their huge assortment of characters!  In terms of the Toys-to-life games, I thought Disney would outlast Skylanders and Lego Dimensions!  But it seems this won't be the case! Well, I just hope that all the people that were laid off are able to find new jobs soon!  May God bless them! :(

As for the Kingdom Hearts series, it probably won't be affected!  As most people have said here, the games are published by Square, meaning that what they get from Disney is the permission to use their characters and locales for the games, ya know?  So yeah, KH isn't going anywhere, no siree!!! :3

That's no fair! They could have at least done a Kingdom Hearts collaboration before discontinuing! What happened to all of those plans of just going forward!? I should have known to worry as soon as they said that there wasn't going to be a 4.0! WASTED POTENTIAL, I SWEAR TO-GAHHHHHHHHHH!

I guess "Disney Infinity" isn't so infinite after all. xP

It might cause a few snags, but Kh should go on as planned: 80% of the material (Characters, story, settings, items, weapons, Ff related material) is owned by Square, so Disney can easily make a deal to still let out their characters for the series.

Slightly off topic, kinda sad to see the Disney games go: some of the movie tie ins, while not exactly great, were fun little diversions. The Alice game for

wii was even fairly decent, almost good for a tie in.

Guess those days are over.

Actually, everything original to the Kingdom Hearts series is owned by Disney. Square Enix are the ones who have the freedom of development for said assets.

Truth be told, the best Disney games were always outsourced to Capcom and Sega anyway with Ducktales and Castle of Illusion respectively.

I knew Infinity went through struggles and all but I would never expect them to go this far. They released a lot of playable figures that weren't as popular as some others and that probably came back at them when not that many people bought it. But after the whole Disney Infinity Next announcement it felt like they were on a new fresh start, guess that wasn't the case. Disney Infinity was always a flawed game no denying that. It had a lot of bugs and glitches that popped up randomly in the game, and the gameplay wasn't targeted for all ages not to mention the annoying way of buying small items and figures just so you can continue the game. But the figures were so detailed and great to have in your collection and they looked so good on the shelf (like I love that Nick Wilde figure standing on my shelf). They were not that great on keeping up with the fans and many felt that they were too late with their announcements like they announced Baloo a month before the movie would come out. So does this mean that the Peter Pan figure will not happen and Nemo & Dory will be the very last part of the franchise. I have so many questions I need to have an answer to like ...

What caused this to happen?

Will the game and figures stop working after june?

Will Disney really stop making video games in general : ?

When I heard the news of Disney Infinity being cancelled, I was shocked and bummed. Then, I saw many people thinking that this means that Disney is completely ditching video games and I saw Kingdom Hearts fans very worried and scared that their favorite franchise would be doomed. This confused me, and I wondered where they got this idea from. I guess there must have been some sort of misunderstanding, but I took this information as them making these decisions because their games that are made by third-party developers are so successful, such as Kingdom Hearts and Disney Crossy Road. I've found an article that explains this perfectly. Hopefully, this'll ease your worries: http://disneyexaminer.com/2016/05/11/with-the-loss-of-disney-infinity-comes-new-better-third-party-games/

PS: I'm not saying you shouldn't be skeptical or critical of Disney's actions. It's always a good thing to question a companies actions instead of blindly fanboying/fangirling over everything they do.

Will this affect KH3?

I agree that they should had made more KH content. They wasted a lot of potential in all of their games this is freaking Disney we're talking about and to them they had not figured out on how to make water mechanics yet. They made great looking figures but their gameplay and power discs were made very cheap and and looked plastic in the game.

(I guess "Disney Infinity" isn't so infinite after all.  xP)

It never was, really. They had so much potential to begin with before they included Marvel & Star Wars and they almost never listened to their fans who wanted more classic characters from Disney. After DI was released they should have known that the game was liked by many adults and therefore they should of had improved the mechanics and go for a more all ages game. I knew some toy box artists who were hired to work for Infinity and they at least made it possible for having Mulan, Minnie & Tron figures since they communicated with the fans and called back the response to the rest of the team and made the game somewhat more enjoyable. I feel really bad for them now that they have lost their job.

I'm worried for this.... Should I be worried about an upcoming trouble for Kingdom Hearts? O.O

Guys, no, it's fine I promise. I would have reported on it if there was any sort of issue.

Disney Interactive is not closing it's doors, however the studio that produced Disney Infinity did. Disney Infinity was pretty much one of the only games  that was developed ONLY by Disney. Most of their games are co-published with other companies.

Disney Interactive is the entity tied to Kingdom Hearts and nothing is happening to it. Regardless of that, Square Enix is the publisher of Kingdom Hearts.

Uff man I hope you are right.... It's just, their days to publishing games are gone and I'm worried about this....

The report is that they're only going to stop SELF-publishing games, not that they won't provide a team effort with other companies because otherwise Disney Interactive literally wouldn't have a role anymore and thus would have announced that it was shutting down too.

No Sora Disney Infinity figure creates the possibility of Sora one day being added to Smash Bros and an amiibo of him being created. *smiles*
