Bill Farmer interviewed about Kingdom Hearts and confirms he recorded for Kingdom Hearts III in 2015

Toominator

Bill Farmer, the voice actor for Goofy in the Kingdom Hearts series, was recently interviewed on an episode of the "2 Men and The Mouse" podcast. The host asks Bill about his experience with the Kingdom Hearts series, and Bill explains the process and why he thinks Kingdom Hearts is so popular. Bill is then asked about recording for Kingdom Hearts III. He confirms that he has been recording for Kingdom Hearts III off and on for "years, now", thus solidifying his questionable tweet made last year in which he claimed he was finished recording for Kingdom Hearts III and that it would release in 2015. In this podcast, he again clarifies it was Kingdom Hearts III he was referencing in his tweet, and not one of the side games. According to Bill, since he was done recording, he figured the game would be released relatively soon. He is now unsure when the game will release, and is also unsure if he will be recording for Kingdom Hearts III again soon.

You can listen to the entire podcast here. The questions regarding Kingdom Hearts begin at 57:54, and the question regarding Kingdom Hearts III begins at 1:03:00.

We know that Square Enix stays very tight-lipped on its proceedings, even when dealing with the voice actors (see Ben Diskin's comments on the last E3 trailer, when the KH team wouldn't tell him what he was recording for or even that he was supposed to be doing a "younger" young Xehanort; they only told him to copy the Japanese VA's voice. They didn't let any details slip.).

Chances are very high that they haven't confirmed or denied what Mr. Farmer was recording for at the time; if he's positive that it wasn't for any of the "side" games, it could have been just for any KH3 trailers that are due out this year. Also gonna mention that within the last year, Nomura made the remark that he’s still not sure how he’s going to do the ending for KH3; I find it unlikely that since then he’s come up with the idea, had the team do the storyboard, the script, had both cleaned up to the final stages, and brought in the VAs to do the recordings, least of all the English VAs.

LONG STORY SHORT, I sincerely doubt Bill Farmer's really done recording. No offense to him, but VA opinions have not been the most reliable things in history.

I personally think they did start recording for KH3 since we have had two voice actors say that so far, but there is no way they are anywhere near finished yet. They probably recorded a few of the finished worlds, or maybe just some side stuff like battle dialog and of course trailer audio.

I remember a few years back, when Dream Drop Distance was in development, someone asked Bill Farmer on Twitter if he had been doing any voice work for Kingdom Hearts, and he said they were working on 'Kingdom Hearts 10' or something. He obviously knows which game he's working on - he's been very specific when he says he's been recording for KH3, so I don't think he's confusing which games he's been working on.

Voice actors are definitely not a trustworthy source. As we've seen time and time again, not just with Kingdom Hearts, with other games as well, voice actors are not very knowledgeable on the things they do work for and misinterpret information constantly.

He may just be finished afahk. Meaning they may not have scheduled more sessions for the time being.

That seems like a weird practice, at least for the ones with major roles.

Yeah, it's pretty strange how little they're told about the things they do work for.
