Dream Drop Distance trailer rendered using BBSFM

DChiuch

New evidence has appeared to support the idea that the 2011 Trailer and all existing screenshots for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was rendered using the engine from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, rather than a new engine. These two videos below, thanks to YouTube user Keytotruth, demonstrate this.

As you can see, these are hacked videos of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix. They reveal extra models which are hidden in the game, and as shown, they are the same as the models that appear in the Dream Drop Distance trailer. Interesting stuff.

This is awesome. Well at least we all know Kh 3D will run under a good engine with respectable graphics, unlike Days and Re:coded.

Days and Re:Coded had great graphics for a DS.

I guess so, but Dream Drop Distance is expected to have BBS graphics.

Well, just so you know, you can expect PS2 quality graphics from DDD, since the 3DS is more powerful than a PSP, though I'm not sure if it's QUITE as powerful as a PS2.

Yeah I really doubt it. I mean it's possible but, no.

Not unlikely at all. Square loves reusing PS2 stuff, why bother making new low poly models when they have an existing bank of higher quality ones? Besides, Square loves to show off, they're not going to half ass it.

Yes, but Traverse Town wasn't in Birth by Sleep. Did they recreate Traverse Town in BbS just for the trailer? Hmm

Yes, the 3DS is more powerful then the PSP. Expect the 3DS to have many more animations, more detailed areas and characters, short loadings, and more. With Resident Evil recently released, you can see that you can pull off 360 looking graphics with the 3DS with a few tricks.

The model for Sora is probably going to be the same one from the PS2. Although, I'm expecting them to polish up the model so it looks more tuned up.

If the trailer HAD appeared on the PSP then yes, they may have created Traverse Town. In fact, that might be the reason that it DIDN'T appear, because they didn't want to bother adding it (Or they didn't have enough space)

The 3DS is powerful, the reason you're seeing '360-like' graphics is the lighting, which is very up to date on the 3DS. Square uses lighting tricks extensively to make their graphics appear better than they are, so the 3DS' capabilities are encouraging.

I'm not sure, I have no way of telling right now, but I think the Sora and Riku models are downgraded versions of the PS2 models. That's simply speculation based on the fact that the PSP can't handle models quite as smooth as the ones on the PS2. The models for Sora HAS been polished, though it's difficult to tell. Watch the trailer and look at Sora's sleeves (In his KH1 form) they are rounder than they are normally.

So, while I'm only expecting PS2 quality graphics here, we could get the most graphically complex KH to date if Square puts the time in.
