Square Enix trademarks "SE MASTERPIECES" in Europe

DChiuch

Square Enix have registered the trademark "SE Masterpieces" in Europe. This trademark, uncovered by NeoGAF, covers video games, as well as printed media and digital distribution. While it is unknown exactly what "SE Masterpieces" refers to, there is a good possibility that it is a re-release of past Kingdom Hearts titles. Square Enix have used "Masterpieces" in the past to refer to a Kingdom Hearts re-release, specifically a packaging of Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II in Japan titled Kingdom Hearts: Trinity Master Pieces. However, it remains to be seen what this new video game from Square Enix is. Hopefully we will find out more as we lead up to E3 2011, which is in only 22 days.

Re-release = milking the franchise.

Whatever.

Milking the franchise is making tonnes of games that don't end with a III to extend a franchises lifespan to make money. Re releasing lets new fans join in.

If they add teeny changes to the original (I'm assuming they will), it's milking :)

I don't think you get what milking means. When you milk a franchise, you're 'milking' money from fans. Usually, the context it's used is when a franchise continues longer than it should, simply using brand recognition to make a profit. Re releasing a game is more like... introducing a foreigner to a new type of milk.

SE is a business. Businesses make money. Using already made resources to make more money is a good and working strategy. Really, what's so wrong with them 'milking' money from the games they spent years to make? Or would you like them to go out of business before KH3 is released? xP

This is what I've been wanting for a long time. I hope that if they do a PS3 KH release, they will release the Final Mix versions here. It wouldn't take too much to translate the extra content and, of course, they will make more munny :D

OK, here's the thing:

If it's just a 'normal' re-release, then yes, you're right, they're trying to tap into a new audience.

If they add tiny changes to the game, 'old' fans will be tempted to double-dip, and that's milking.

And for the good of the topic: can we just leave it at this?

Aaaaand I have a question: if they're gonna re-release KH1, what about the whole Tarzan-copyright issue? Did that just magically solve itself? And yes, I'm hoping it's a PS3 re-release as well =)

Disney could just... you know, BUY the Tarzan right. It's not like they aren't a globe spanning mega-company that prints money :P

Not milking :P

Oooh...that Tarzan copyright could be a problem...

This is one of the main reasons that this idea may never happen. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, but if their's no U.S. release, I couldn't care less.

Of course, they could just take Tarzan out of it. It's not like it adds anything to the story at all.

...Actually, thats not a half bad idea. I wasn't a fan of the world Deep Jungle anyways.

You can't be serious, can you? If they take out Deep Jungle that's like leaving out a big, huge chunk of the story. I'm sure if worst comes to worst Disney will pay the 10 million to get the rights to Tarzan back.

Deep Jungle added nothing to the story. Take it out and nothing is lost. You can't take out worlds with princesses, adn Never Land gives glide, but Tarzan really just lifts right out.

True, Sora seeing that castle in the pic, which he says it looks familiar has no impact on the story, and I'm sure no one new to KH will figure it out. lol

I take back what I said earlier, taking out Deep Jungle would make KH1 better.

The Castle thing just makes everybody think Sora is from Hollow Bastion.
