KHUX Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] New Collabs

Recommended Posts

As you (probably) know, Chi is coming to the end of its lifetime. However, this does not mean that your Square Enix BRIDGE account (that you made oh-so-long ago) will be terminated along with the game. As you may know, if you participated in any of the collaboration/crossover campaigns, there are other games that you can use your Square Enix BRIDGE account for. 5 games (plus a collaboration that you may have already made an account for) are available for your playing pleasure after Chi terminates. I’ve gone ahead to play through some of these games to help you figure out what game, if any, you should move onto afterwards. SE has made this an incentive for you as well: if you have an account in another game on the same Yahoo! Japan account, you’ll be able to get some freebies before Chi ends. If you already play the game (as mentioned before, in the previous collabs or wanted to try something out), you will still receive the rewards, as long as you have completed the tutorial.

For those of you who are interested in when the codes will be sent out, that will be on the 19th of August (JST, of course), so please keep on checking your SE BRIDGE emails for them. The codes expire on the 30th of September.

Nicotto Town:

This game is very much like Animal Crossing in terms of content: essentially you will be playing as a real human person, doing very human things (planting flowers, shopping, fishing, and the like), but unlike Animal Crossing, all of your neighbors are humans playing the game (so no, there are no talking animals). The game isn’t very active in my timezone due to when I play (which happens to be in the middle of the night for Japan).  If you live in timezones more compatible with Japan’s, expect there to be people online. As a warning, just like in Chi, English is not used; however, unlike Chi, the game is not Flash and you can C/P words or phrases into google (or another translation machine) without needing to draw the characters or remember readings.

Should I play?: If you like games such as Animal Crossing and/or want to work on your Japanese, go for it. Otherwise, nah. Also, this requires a different username and password from Chi’s (doesn’t use SE Bridge for the accounts) so you may need to make a new account if you do not remember your information. There’s very little to no story that I experienced (why should there be, though?) so if you want something substantial, look elsewhere.

Please note that this game is not part of the campaign and you will not receive any rewards if you do decide to start playing it.

Bravely Default: Praying Brage:

For those of you who played in the collaboration event, you know how… special… this game is. The music is nice, there’s voice acting if that’s your thing, and that’s about it. The loading times are worse than Chi’s (yes, it is possible), the instructions are difficult to follow (however this is counterbalanced by the prominence of English guides on the internet thanks to the Chi collab back in October 2014). If you can find a good English guide or a walkthrough on how to continue the story or a breakdown of what you need to do for quests (ie, item locations and boss locations), you’ll find an honestly enjoyable game once you’ve figured out to do most everything. The combat system is like any RPG’s – you choose your attack, specials, or defenses, and then have a showdown with the enemies – but it’s not awful. The thing unique to the game (out of all of these) is that battles are timed. Go over the time limit and face a game over. Your main town can be upgraded so your sellers can offer higher-end goods. You can send your characters out looking for items to sell on the marketboard to make some money.

Should I play?: There’s a really high beginning difficulty to this game; however, once you’ve figured out what to do and gotten into the rhythm of the game, it’s a nice game. If you had trouble getting into Chi due to the Japanese barrier and not understanding what to do next, I would recommend that you not pick up this game due to the difficult beginning portion.

*Please note that the expiration date on this one is ten days after the email was sent, not the month that the other games have*

Dragon Quest: Monster Parade:

The tunes you’ve come to know from the main series DQ games mixed with a sidescrolling action – sounds great, doesn’t it? Essentially, you ride in a wagon and your monster buddies walk in front of the wagon, and when you encounter an enemy along the path, you sic your monsters on them. Maybe a few of them will be impressed with your display of power and they’ll come to join your party. Monsters range from E to S ranks, and the better the ranking, the more damage and defense they’ll have. You have a limited amount of stamina you can use each day (which can be restored using carrots), and doesn’t restore over time like Chi’s. If you played this during the crossover campaign, you’ll have tasted a little bit of the story, but there’s more to do! There’s a whole lot of quests that you can take and stuff to do once you progress past the tutorial zone, including recruiting monsters outside of the world map, raids, and joining guilds. Plus there are cute minigames to play if you get bored of the main game.

Should I play?: If you like Dragon Quest, yes. If you want to try to collect ‘em all, go for it. However, the limited stamina (especially at the beginning of the story) will hamper you in progressing. If you played this during the crossover campaign, you’ll already have some thoughts about the game, but if you didn’t, it’s worth checking out to see if you like it.

Imperial SaGa:

This game is interesting to say the least. If you’ve played any of the games in the Romancing SaGa series, you should be able to know who many of the characters in the games are. However, as I hadn’t played a Romancing SaGa game prior to starting this, not knowing who the characters were didn’t impact my gaming experience. Much like Chi in this regard, you don’t need to know who Riku, Sora, or Kairi are, but if you do, your gaming experience and your interaction with the characters will be that much deeper if you do know who these people are. The mechanics of the game are interesting – every ten “years” (ten storyline missions) your current leader will be replaced by a new leader (and then you won’t be able to use them ever again), and so the cycle continues. Each character is given an LP (Life Point), and every time they get KO’ed, their LP decreases by one. If the LP reaches zero, the character will die and you will no longer be able to use him or her.

Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7apnFilTDfU

Should I play?: If you’ve played any of the Romancing SaGa games, you should check it out. If you like RPGs, you should consider checking it out – the combat is very reminiscent of the early Final Fantasies and (unsurprisingly) Romancing SaGa games. However, beware: the main storyline is very text heavy (what is this, an RPG with a storyline?!?), and you’ll be “punished” for choosing the wrong answer. So, either have your dictionary out or focus on the event quests (which have like maybe three lines of dialogue total?). This game also has no communications with other players (outside of the official forums and unofficial sites), so keep that in mind when considering this game. The game is also very much a “Free to play, pay to win” type of game, so keep that in mind when trying out the game.

Minna de Quest (Let’s Quest):

This is a text-based adventure game. You will probably not get a whole lot out of this unless you can read Japanese; otherwise, you’ll just be clicking the “Next” button to get more of the story. I’m sure that there’s some great character development and growth. Too bad I can’t understand it. The game was designed to be on smartphones, so people on computers will be scrolling down without real purpose or interest.

From my small amount of time playing it, it seems that you can only undertake one quest per day (hence the tagline “You’ll only need 5 minutes each day to play this full-scale RPG!”). Additionally, there’s some Gacha pets that you can get each day which you can evolve and partner up with in battle.

Official Page: http://mdq.member.jp.square-enix.com/

Should I play?: Probably not, unless you need reading practice for Japanese. If you’re using Chrome as your browser for this browser game, the in-browser translator will work, as well as with Rikakun/Rikachan if you really want to play the game.

Please note that this game is not incentivized with the campaign and will not reward you with any goodies if you do choose to pick it up.

Civil War IXA (戦国IXA):

This is essentially Clash of Clans set in feudal Japan. You can play it on both Smartphone and on your computer. Nothing really noteworthy here, besides the interesting translations google translate gives for some of the dialogue (your browser may be able to auto-translate). To set up your account, if you do want to play it, you have to do some finagling because the game requires you to accept the T-point terms and conditions, even if you don’t have a T-point card and makes you solve a few capchas before entering the game, which can be painful without Japanese IME.

Official Page: http://sengokuixa.jp/ and http://lp.ixasp.jp (for smartphone)

Should I play?: If you happen to be into Clash of Clans and enjoy feudal Japan, go for it. However, the hassle for me was too much and the game itself isn't that exciting.

Be aware that there are (at least the part that I played) adult/mature themes that run throughout the game. You're playing as a feudal warlord, so be prepared for skimpily dressed females and the like.

While creating content for this article, the game “A Hero of 1000 Years” (千年勇者) was another game that you could play with your Yahoo! Japan account. However, unfortunately, it came to my attention that the game will be terminated the day before Chi.  Honestly, it was the game I enjoyed the most playing and trying out. Obviously there is no collab with the game, but I’m including it here in case anyone is interested in it. The music is great, the action is turn-based like most RPGs, there’s a team element, and it seems to have a good story. This probably would have been my highest recommended game if not for the fact that it’s going to end in a month. Still worth playing, imo, even though it only has a month left.

Now that codes have been sent out, here's how to redeem them!

For those of you who are having difficulty redeeming your serial codes because you are not able to find the input box, never fear because VexenRep with the Japanese approximations is here!

How to get to your messages so you can actually get to your codes:

5asveAA.png

Click on the red messages tab to get started. The tab will not be red if you previously opened your mail and got deterred by the whole "OMG it's in Japanese bye bye cya later" mindset.

SXGWhda.png

Next, click on any of the messages from KH運営チーム.

Key to the games:

ドラゴンクエストモンスターパレード = Dragon Quest Monster Parade
ブレイブリーデフォルトプレイングブレージュ = Bravely Default Praying Brage
インペリアルサガ = Imperial SaGa
戦国IXA = Civil War IXA

SrZ3hhU.png

The red circle is your serial code. Make sure to have this when redeeming :) Note that the serial code is a one-time use sorta thing, so you can't use it on two different accounts. Make sure to redeem the codes before they expire!

Next, un-spoiler the title of the game(s) that you want to redeem a code for.

Dragon Quest Monster Parade

WA8XFkr.png

Dragon Quest's path to entering the serial code is even before you load the game. Choose the middle option (プレゼントコード) followed by the first option (アイテムコード). Copy and paste your code and then click "けってい" (Confirm).
Log into your game and get your wild meats :)

Imperial SaGa

PWIFhNr.jpg

ecEIAze.jpg

For Imperial SaGa, it's a little bit more tricky. Once you log into the game, go to the top "house" (ie メニュー [menu]), then click the middle green option (暗号入力 [input code]). Paste your code in, click 入力 (input) and get your gacha tickets :)

Bravely Default Praying Brage

nsMNGD0.jpgrenhjRG.png

For Bravely Default, it's not too terribly awful. Click the top scroll-down bar (メニュー), and click 設定 (options). You'll pull up the menu above. Click the シリアルコード入力 (serial code input), input your code, click the red button and enjoy your gacha tickets :)

Civil War IXA

P7zgqEx.png

a6KnqEb.png

For Civil War IXA, it's pretty simple. On the right-hand-side bar, click on the プレセントボックス (Present Box) icon. On the menu that pops up, navigate to the シリアルコード入力 (serial code input). Input the code in the box and press 決定 (Confirm). (Please ignore the blue arrow; I still haven't completed the tutorials yet ^^;;)
Enjoy your gacha tickets :)
