The Elder Scrolls -- I know it's a beautiful game and I should love it, but it is so open and there are so many quests that I find it overwhelming.  Perhaps if I had more free time I could enjoy this game, but whenever I pick it up I always feel that it was a waste of my time, which is unfortunate because I really want to like this game.

Epic Mickey -- Poor gameplay and plot

Grand Theft Auto -- to be honest I haven't yet tried it, but it doesn't look like it would really be up my alley

Shin Megami Tensei -- I tried one of the games, but it was too bland in my opinion, both in gameplay and characters

And that's probably it.  I like most franchises once I give them a try, though I tend to be disinclined to open-world games because they are so complex (depending on the size of the world).

If it helps, I also kind of hate MGS3. :P

I love MGS3, but it's definitely the most overhyped of the series. So it's 2 4 and 5 left.

....I guess we can agree that 2 was good?

Yeah, more or less. 2 was pretty shitty in a lot of ways- mostly the story- but as a game, it was pretty much an improved version of MGS1, which everyone loved. I really don't get all the hate.

My most favorite to least favorite is pretty much the release order. Mgs1> mgs2> mgs3> mgs4> mgs5

Really? MGSV is pretty great, I think. I'm only about a quarter of the way through TPP and I'm fully expecting the story to take a nosedive, but the gameplay has been rock solid so far.

Also, no Peacewalker? I really liked that one, more than most of the numbered titles honestly.

I enjoyed MGSV for the most part.  It has some of the best gameplay in the series but it grew stale pretty quickly, and it felt like the "open world" thing was a tacked on afterthought.  It also has the least engaging; least interesting plot and characters in the series.  It doesn't feel like an MGS game, and I likely would have enjoyed it more had it been a new IP with the same gameplay.

Peacewalker not only felt unnecessary, but undermined the plot and character arcs of MGS3.  Specifically The Boss, who's one of the best characters to come out of this franchise and imo one of the best female characters in gaming.

It's my favorite franchise overall, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

I can understand that, MGSV does have a much different feel than any other Metal Gear game. (I personally love the open world aspect, though I tend to like open world games in general.)

And I never really cared much for The Boss as a character at all (didn't care for much of MGS3) so Peacewalker didn't bother me that much on the story front, but I can see why it would frustrate a fan. I really did like the mission based structure of Peacewalker- I like it in MGSV too, but those missions tend to go on for a very long time. Due to it being a portable game, Peacewalker's were forced to be short and sweet, little bite sized missions that I can tackle a little bit at a time or binge all at once if I felt like it. Plus the upgrading of equipment the more you used it was nice, and the mech boss battles were some of my favorite in the series.

But like you said, different strokes. I'm glad we could have a civil discussion about this. :)

LMAO, that's almost every popular series.

Metal Gear, God of War, and Persona is a series I can't get into. I had never been interested in the Mass Effect, either... but Andromeda changed my mind.
