Tails 6,692 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) So I've been reading and watching videos of reviews for the new Star Ocean 5 and I must say....wow is it really THAT horrible? Now I've never played a Star Ocean game mind you but the game really does look underwhelming. And the worst part about it is that it's a really short game. I think it's the shortest game out of all the Star Ocean games (correct me if I'm wrong on this) and what's even more irritating is that it's being sold at $60.00. Honestly, if it the story of the game was going to be this short than Tri-Ace should have done what Isomniac Games did and price it at $40.00. The Ratchet & Clank PS4 remake is a great example because it's a very short game (with great gameplay by the way) and amazing graphics yet it's sold at a very reasonable price. I admit that I was super hyped for SO5 because it was going to be my first Star Ocean game but I don't think it's worth buying it now with the price it has right now. I'll wait until it either gets a special sale or a price drop. Also I heard that the game has you do A LOT of backtracking and gives you some unfair fights or something. So yeah. I heard that the SO series has been going down since SO3, it really makes you wonder what's going on with Tri-Ace since they develop the games. But I'd like to hear your thoughts on SO5 if anyone has it. Is it still worth buying at the price it is now? Or do you think it's best to wait on a price drop? Nathan Hatton 274 Posted July 1, 2016 I've never played Star Ocean before, but I was really looking forward the new one mainly because it looks GORGEOUS. But I've been very discouraged by the reviews. It still seems to be a decent length (not a standard jrpg, but still decently long). The biggest complaints I've seen are the characters are boring and don't get you to care about them, it lacks in traditional cutscenes (which were a staple of the series and have been replaced with a lot of voiced scenes where you are free to move the camera around but it loses the impact, and the camera itself will move around randomly (and not just occasionally, it's constant - moving up and down slightly continuously as you play without touching the right analog stick) which is actually causing some players to have motion sickness. I don't have the money to get it right now anyway but I will definitely wait till it's a lower price if I ever do get it. I would recommend watching the first several parts of someone's walkthrough on Youtube, that will give you a good insight into whether or not it's a game you will enjoy. Guys, I've been playing it since day one, and the reviews are so untrue it's sickening. You gotta remember, one of these reviews comes from IGN, a company that often doesn't even know what platform the games they are reviewing are from. The game has addictive combat, nice characters, and good graphics. These are also the same idiots who gave MGSV a 10 and it did NOT deserve a 10... Don't listen to them, the game is great. It's one of my favs in the SO series now. If you interested I highly urge you to go for it. Isaix 924 Posted July 1, 2016 I've heard some good and bad things about the game as well,so I'm not sure if I'll pick it up after all.I might if the price drops
Kevin Ngo 0 Posted July 1, 2016 I have played SO3 and 4.. and I've got to say something. SO5 looks like simply a combination of SO3 and 4. I really dont think it worth buying if you are a fan of the star ocean series
The 13th Kenpachi 4,279 Posted July 1, 2016 Plan on picking it up soon, don't base your opinions on reviews. Wait until a decent youtuber reviews it, youtubers are trustworthy (some of them anyway) 1 Soravids reacted to this

I know the game is gorgeous that much is clear. The camera issue does bother me. I've seen multiple videos demoing it and while I don't get motion sickness, it moves around enough that it would annoy me a lot. I'm definitely going to watch more youtube reviews and playthroughs (of the beginning) before I decide to get it. Regardless, I don't have the money right now anyway. I'm about to take out some fairly large loans for grad school so I'm not buying any games at release right now haha
