Spider-Man PS4 = Marvel in KH3?

Recommended Posts

No, I don't think that just because Spider-Man is getting a game on the PS4 means Marvel will be in the KH series, since they are completely unrelated things. The information that has been released about the new Spider-Man game however, got me thinking though. Here is the official announcement on the Marvel website:

http://marvel.com/news/video_games/26283/spider-man_returns_on_playstation_4

When asked why Marvel chose Insomniac to develop the game, they said:
"Insomniac is a perfect match for Spider-Man because not only are they world class game developers that make phenomenal story-driven experiences, but they also craft games bursting with personality, humor and most importantly: fun…just like Spidey!"

Marvel finished with:
"
The Marvel Games team is determined to deliver authentic Marvel experiences filled with our magic mix of action, drama, humor, romance, social relevance, and jaw-dropping awesomeness. This all-new Spider-Man game and our partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac is a direct result of our wholehearted dedication to creating the best Marvel games the world has ever seen!"

In the past, both Nomura and Tai Yasue shot down Marvel rumors because those were separate companies of Disney. Well, Marvel doesn't seem to have a problem with licensing their properties right now (including the mystery TellTale Marvel project), and I would definitely consider Square Enix a bigger name than Insomniac Games. So if Marvel is okay with it, and Disney is okay with it, and Square Enix is okay with it, then I don't see what's stopping Marvel from being in KH at this point.

Note: I am neither for nor against Marvel being in KH, I'm just stating what I'm seeing.

I'd rather have Marvel and Lucasfilm be in Kingdom Hearts 4. Let Pixar take the stage for Kingdom Hearts 3.

I really don't see the problem with Marvel being in KH3, you can't sit there and tell me you'd rather have another god awful Cinderella world or a Snow white world than a Marvel world. However Marvel would work best as a side world.

But no, let's go to Beast's Castle and Agrabah for the 90th time, I don't care about the whole

'It won't fit! It's not traditional disney properties! Kingdom Hearts has always been about original disney properties!'.

^If you want the original kingdom hearts experience, go and play 1 and 2. KH3 marks a NEW, fresh step in the franchise that should aim to push it forward. The game shouldn't be afraid to introduce new things and break new ground. I would rather Nomura experiment and implement it as a side world just to try it than to be afraid and not include it all.

Fortunately it seems they are saving the good stuff for KH3. Marvel would work best as a SIDE world that is optional, the best scenario could be something like this;

Sora is in Merlin's house and he finds a Marvel Comic book, Sora starts reading it and Merlin sends him in there to explore the place. It could be set during an Avengers film.

I would say Deadpool but they would have to censor his jokes which then ruins his character.

This.

While I want Marvel to be in KH in some form or another, I'd rather them save it for later. Don't wanna be like KHII and blow your load on three different kinds of Disney worlds in one game. (Live-action, direct-to-video and cartoons) I want some things to potentially look forward to.

By shoving Marvel and Lucasfilm in this early, it's a "putting all your eggs in one basket" situation. The repeat worlds only happened in the side games, and again, they're the side games. All the repeat worlds from Kingdom Hearts to Kingdom Hearts 2 has aesthetic different be it location additions or new characters. There's a bunch of Disney properties that haven't even been touched that can be perfect worlds, besides, we're seeing hints of Pixar world's with Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster.

I say this not only to the original post in question but also towards the idea of Marvel or anything similar in KH as a whole: It doesn't work like that.

Marvel isn't owned by Disney in the sense that they created it, they just have the rights to get paychecks off of them and all the other business mumbo jumbo. It's not the same as incorporating characters that Disney actually owns, or even characters that SE owns. Jamming in a bunch of superheroes into a clearly "Disney-esque" fairytale/mystical setting such as the KH universe would just make them stick out like a sore thumb.

And no, don't bring up Big Hero 6. I don't know what's in store for that, but I at least have faith that'll it at least try to fit into the spectrum since Disney is still its main proprietor.

Being the huge Marvel fanboy I am, there was a time I was skeptical of Marvel characters appearing in the Kingdom Hearts series, but right now, I'm actually all up for it, as long as Nomura knows how to implement the elements of the Marvel Universe into the Kingdom Hearts Universe and make the transition smooth, ya know?

For now, it's out of our hands, but I agree with Alpha Baymax!  Let Marvel and Star Wars be shown from Kingdom Hearts IV onward, ya know? :)

i mean, i really don't think Star Wars and Marvel will fit in too well with the KH universe but at this rate i wouldn't be surprised to see them put in at some point due to fan demands. (which i don't get. why do people want Star Wars and Marvel in KH?)

and if that's the case then I say wait until KH4, or whatever the next saga is to do it. seeing how Marvel and Star Wars are huge money making franchises, their inclusion will no doubt draw the attention of their respective fans, including the ones who have never played KH. this will bring in new fans to the series and it'd be a good idea to not scare them off by dumping a ton of exposition on them from the get go.

if Marvel and Star Wars was introduced in KH3 it would alienate new fans because they'd be bombarded with KH's hard to follow story. that's why i say wait until the next saga. that way SE will have a clean slate to work from. besides, it being a new saga and all, Nomura will have some more room to experiment with the formula and maybe even recapture the charm that the first KH game had when you got to visit Disney worlds for the first time.

i mean it's not likely though. Marvel and Star Wars both have video games of their own and nowadays it's hard to go 10 feet without hearing about them. there wouldn't be a novelty factor in exploring the worlds of these characters, no nostalgia factor to play on since they're still extremely relevant. they'll just be there.

if anything it'd feel like a shallow marketing ploy, but that's just me being cynical.

I only mentioned marvel so I have no clue where you're getting lucasfilm from.  What's so wrong with putting all the eggs in one basket anyway? I said it would be a side world so they could test the waters.

Actually, all the rights for Big Hero 6 have been transferred over to Walt Disney Animation Studios. If you look at the official trademark logo's for Big Hero 6, it's © Walt Disney Animation Studios. Big Hero 6 is just as much of a Disney Animation movie as Wreck-It Ralph and Zootopia is.

Heck, the Disney Animation department tried to get Marvel to publish Disney Big Hero 6 comics as promotion for the movie but they declined because they no longer had ownership rights to the franchise.

Star Wars and Indiana Jones falls into the Lucasfilm category. Putting all the eggs in one basket means there's nothing exciting for Kingdom Hearts 4. And as Firaga Sensei mentioned, the copyrights for the Disney original divisions are now more difficuilt considering that Disney Interactive are no longer a developer studio.

I was speaking more from a literary sense as well as to dodge the potential conflict from someone telling me "Oh, but Firaga, Big Hero 6 is about superheroes and junk, why does that get a pass?" and the answer is, as you pointed it out, it may have a connection to Marvel but the property in question is solely based on the Disney film, the film that is quintessentially Disney in its charm and structure story and tone wise and fits more in line with the sort of things you'd see in the KH universe's Disney side rather than Spider-Man or the Hulk showing up with their slightly more gritty realism (in comparison that is).

I'm going to say I would prefer Marvel being left to KHIV if they use the property.

IF, and I repeat IF, Marvel was used for some reason in KHIII, I would prefer they would keep it similar to a Final Fantasy style.

By this I mean they could appear as characters in certain, like Thor appearing at Twilight Town or a deceased character being brought back by Hades like Auron was.

Definitely agree that there wouldn't be anything special about exploring Marvel or Star wars worlds, because they've already have so many games. If they altered the style I could see some cameos like Thor or something.
