"Disney animator reveals what ‘Frozen’ would’ve looked like as a 2D, hand-drawn film"

Recommended Posts

Some films I think would have worked better as 2D animated movies and Frozen is one of them. I don't think as many people would complain about Disney 'using the same face' if they had Frozen be a 2D film. The way Anna and Elsa's noses curve just looks so much better in two dimensions and ends up looking kind of strange in three. I still love the designs, but still... Something like Zootopia works a lot better as a CGI film where the extra textures and hair that CGI can provide really helps make the animals feel 'alive'.

Preferred 3D. 2D is nice and all, but the 3D effects, especially in regards to snow, made Frozen a perfect 3D fit.

Couldn't agree more. Frozen really utilised the 3D capabilities to it's maximum potential with the effects of snow at the time. I love hand drawn animation, but truth be told, Meander animation is the next step for Disney Animation (Paperman/Feast style).

Sometimes, I wish Disney would go back to 2D animated films, but at the same time I know they can't because this era of animated movies mostly prefers 3D graphics instead T_T

How do you even notice this stuff? Can't we just enjoy the movie and not fret about the unimportant details?

Because I've seen the movie? Character design is everything to get you invested in the...well, characters. And I happen to think that their faces would translate much better to 2D than 3D. I'm also not a fan of the trend that every film is CGI now, even if it is easier to make than hand-drawn. Just looking at the pictures presented, the curvature of Anna's face works way better as a flat image instead of fully round, in my opinion. It doesn't make Frozen a bad film, it's just not in a style I'd consider superior.

Good God, this looks beautiful!  I've mentioned how I dearly miss the awesome, hand drawn animated style Disney would use for its films, and looking at this 2D version of the "Love Is An Open Door" segment makes me miss that hand drawn style even more!!!

GOOD GOD, HOW I MISS HAND DRAWN DISNEY!!!! :
