RikuFangirl2008 1,368 Posted June 12, 2016 I hope I'm in the right place to post this. Ok. My dad just ordered me a new Dell laptop yesterday for, Med Billing and Coding online class and other things. This new Dell laptop has Windows 10 on it. For the ones that has Windows 10, is it bad? Is it like Windows 8 or 7?
Shimmy 458 Posted June 12, 2016 Ehhhhhhhh It's a matter of personal opinion though I strongly prefer 7. 10 is just different is all. 1 Soravids reacted to this
Geralt 4,874 Posted June 12, 2016 While I did love 7, I quickly grew to love 10. Personally it's not bad to me at all. It's a bit of 7 and a bit of 8 combined into something greater and more efficient. It performs well. I'd recommend it. 1 advfox reacted to this
Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted June 12, 2016 i mean it's ok. for some reason, every so often the tool bar at the bottom of the screen won't allow me to access the start menu or right click on an open program for more options. then an update comes out and it gets fixed until it happens again. -Justin- 2,111 Posted June 12, 2016 I don't think it's bad. It's slow at times, but great overall. I've used Windows to 8 and personally 10 is my favorite.
Soravids 1,056 Posted June 12, 2016 It's good, but I liked 8 better.
Renault 29 Posted June 12, 2016 Ironic, I was asking around on my Facebook about the same question. I was debating whether or not to upgrade to 10 from 8.1, which I have honestly had zero issues with thusfar. I'm mostly worried about DirectX 12 at the moment, as well as possibly upgrading my laptop to the mobile GTX 1080 when it comes out, and I want to be able to play newer games. My main issue concerns privacy, being an information security major, and I'm just in the air whether it's worth it or not. I have a lot of legacy peripherals that may choose to not work, that I'd like to continue working, as well. I hear a lot of good things, and a lot of bad things, but in my personal opinion, I think I'm going to wait it out until maybe mid-July before the free upgrades stop.I already used GWX Control Panel to kill the notifications and everything related to the upgrade, but I'm able to restore it if need be. Setrex 1,031 Posted June 12, 2016 I will always prefer Windows 7, but after tolerating 8.1 and then accidentally upgrading to 10 I think it's a solid OS. However, I strongly dislike the automatic updates. An update a few months back broke the OS on my laptop and it refused to boot up. The only solution was to replace the HDD (which is a pain on a laptop). Since I've replaced the HDD the laptop has worked fine with Windows 10, but I do think Microsoft shouldn't force updates on people because there's no guarantee that the updates will work how they are intended to. Overall though, Windows 10 is very fast and it fixes a number of issues I had with Windows 8/8.1.
OmegaForte 1,674 Posted June 12, 2016 I prefer Windows 10 over 8/.1, but I still miss Windows 7. (My old laptop had it before it died out.) If anyone has 7, I would definitely not upgrade to 10. 7 in general feels better.

For eight years, before upgrading it to 7, I had Windows Vista. But, I'm at the point of saying: "I'll take anything, no matter how much I'll hate it."Cause if you guys saw my old laptop you guys probably be like:"Oh my gosh! How long you have this laptop?! Girl! You need an upgrade!" LolAnd I really do need one. Some of my keys don't work, I use a USB keyboard, my "N" key is caput, my CD/DVD drive would pop open itself, so many problems.
OmegaForte 1,674 Posted June 12, 2016 I would say build a PC, but for laptops I have no clue if there's even a way to build those at home or even trying to find one with 7 installed.
FlipMode 141 Posted June 18, 2016 Being that all I use my computer for is gaming and internet browsing and occasionally Spotify, as long as I have an OS which allows those basic things then I don't really mind. The only thing I don't like it hat they genuinely forced me to upgrade. For the longest time I was closing the pop up like "Whatever." but then it literally just downloaded and installed anyway. I mean its okay to be honest but I like to have my choice. I didn't spend £1200 on my PC just to be told by my own computer what Operating System I need to be using.
