Exiblade7 1,917 Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) You know kh2 gives you huge variety of magic, well sadly everytime I play the game, I can't stop thinking about why the game didn't put any weakness and resistance status to every enemy in the game. The game could have been so much better if they did that. If they actually did that, I would have had to use my magic my often, but the game itself didn't give me a reason to use magic. The lack of weakness and resistance statuses on enemies made the game feel button mashy so I stuck with the combos about 95% of the time and barely used the magic unless it was reflect or cure. Not saying that I don't like KH2. I like KH2 because of the way the game is, but it felt like to could've used that idea I mentioned earlier to make the game better. It is my favorite kingdom hearts game after all. If KH3 gives us a reason to use the magic in the game like any other modern rpg, I'm pretty sure that KH3 will be liked more. hopefully in kingdom hearts 3, the game has me a reason to use magic in the game. Isaix 924 Posted June 1, 2016 I think Vexen is weak to fire(maybe not but Fire seem to hurt him more)and there are other rare moments where magic can be useful like the Demyx fight but I agree,it'd be interesting if enemies were weak to certain magic. 2 Yuya Sakaki and Exiblade7 reacted to this
Guest Posted June 1, 2016 Maybe they could cleverly implement the Speed/Magic/Strength system used in Kingdom Hearts X. Not only would it validate the variety of combat abilities that are available, but, it solves your query.

DoDo4869 301 Posted June 1, 2016 I also hope that we could do better magic combos... the only magic i really used was Reflect and sometimes Thunder 1 Kaweebo reacted to this
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted June 1, 2016 Thunder is the most useful spell in the game. I use that and Cure almost exclusively. (Blizzard? Pfft)
thatkingdomheartsguy 153 Posted June 1, 2016 All magic in KH2 is useful to some degree, especially stuff like Reflect and Magnet. The game's problem is its failure to teach you to use these magic spells, since if you're playing on anything lower than Proud Mode, you really don't need anything except physical combos to beat the game. This is with the exception of the few bosses that are difficult, such as Xaldin/Demyx; but since the game never really taught you how to use other forms of attacks to your advantage, the average player would just resort to grinding to beat these difficult fights. The thing with KH2 is once you understand the gameplay system, you really appreciate how much thought the developers put into the game. It's pretty incredible how every single attack in the game has some form of use for it; if only the game had the ability to teach you better. 5 Exiblade7, Deadpool, xxClouDxxmoon and 2 others reacted to this

The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted June 2, 2016 Yeah, I can definitely get behind this! Getting to know enemy weaknesses so that we can then obliterate them with the appropriate spells would make for a fun gameplay mechanic, as you'd be using your magic in fun and interesting ways! Like, you could be making an awesome combo, and if there's an enemy weak to a certain element, finish off the combo with a powerful spell! Yeah, that'd be cool! And actually, we're already seeing some of this in play in Unchained X, with the whole rock-paper-scissors dynamic with the medals! And in KHI, whenever you'd harm certain enemies with certain magic, they'd actually get stunned! So yeah, Square's played around with this before, but hopefully they can expand on it more in Kingdom Hearts III! 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this

That's exactly right, they should teach people how to use the spells they're unlocking. That would straight away give people more incentive to use them. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
BadgerB 15 Posted June 4, 2016 From what's been shown so far, it looks like those water enemies which will be Fire resistant and I think teleport away if you use regular attacks. The cotton enemy can have it's cotton blown away with Aero. I'm sure KH3 will have a lot of elemental based enemies that resist certain attacks and are weak to other elements. 2 lehahiah81 and Exiblade7 reacted to this
