Countdown To New DragonBall Video Game

Recommended Posts

The official DragonBall video game Facebook page has posted a link to a website officially created by Bandai Namco. The front page has a countdown set to end tomorrow and teasing the possibility of a brand new DragonBall video game.

The only hints we have been given as to what this game is going to be are the websites URL ("flythroughtime") and the various images that can viewed and interchanged on the front page. All of these images seem to come from various sources of official DragonBall promotional art, including posters for the DragonBall and DragonBall Z movies and art used for past DragonBall video games.

Now, the greatest conclusion that most people are drawing to is obviously a potential sequel to DragonBall: Xenoverse. I mean, "flying through time"? The visuals of DragonBall properties past? The subtext is very easy to pick up on, as the original Xenoverse game fully revolved around the very history of DragonBall, and judging by the visuals, a sequel would expand on that idea greatly.

Still, I have my personal doubts. Seeing the visuals and looking at art from games like Burst Limit, the Budokai series, and even Attack Of The Saiyans make me think that something else entirely might be in store.

But, what do you think it is?

It's most likely Xenoverse 2. But whatever it is, it looks like a big project with possibility of lots of characters from both anime and movies to be in it. Can't wait for the reveal.

Gotta be Xenoverse 2. Xenoverse is the best selling game of the Bandai's entire line of DB games. They wouldn't pass up the chance to capitalize on that. Plus, they're including some of the best moments from across the series, could this be implying the theme of time or time travelling? Plus, all these moments we're getting shown should be in the next game. The more the merrier, there wasn't enough characters in Xenoverse. Plus they missed out things like Frieza's 2nd and 3rd form, Cell's imperfect and semi-perfect form, Majin Vegeta, SSJ Gogeta, Buuhan, Buucolo, Buutenks, Base form Teen Gohan, but to name a few.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, on one hand it's more xenoverse goodness, but on the other, xenoverse already tackled the most epic fights in the series, at this point they can't really do much other than RoF and some of the buildup fights leading up to each arcs villian. Unless they go balls to the wall with pretty much remaking DBO's story I just don't see this being worth a whole new game when they could just do dlc.

They haven't explored any of the movies, any of Super, any of GT outwith DLC, any of the specials although they did do a little bit with Episode of Bardock kind of. They also have the sequel bait ending in Xenoverse

With Towa picking up a part of Mira after he was destroyed and wanting to rebuild him, technically this will give him a huge Zenkai Boost as he has Saiyan DNA in him, so we may possibly see Super Mira in Xenoverse 2 if this is Xenoverse 2, which may also mean Timebreaker/Xeno Bardock, but the latter is more so wishful thinking.

Also, Xenoverse missed out A LOT of characters. And characters that should have been there regardless of whether they make story sense or not. For example, Frieza's 2nd and 3rd form, Imperfect and Semi-Perfect Cell, Base form Teen Gohan, etc. Think of it like this, Xenoverse is a current/last gen game and excluding DLC characters and other versions of the same character, we only had 45 playable characters. Whereas Budokai Tenkaichi 3, hailed as the best DB game of all time, a game that was TWO generations ago, had OVER 100 PLAYABLE CHARACTERS, Xenoverse pails in comparison, we were missing way too many characters. If Xenoverse 2 or whatever this next game is can't beat a PS2 game made in 2007 then I'm sorry but it's a disappointment.

Sadly there wasn't enough demand for a sequel however there is a fan project over on Facebook that is aiming to get it out and actually some of the stuff that's in Xenoverse came out of this fan project. https://www.facebook.com/DBRB3Project/?fref=ts

Roster size doesn't equal a quality game. BT3 had a bloated roster that was mostly made up of characters that were basically clones of one another because of the game's lack of combat depth. Some of the characters were even intently made to be overpowered (giant characters) or outright garbage (the entire early DragonBall cast) compared to others.

Even if the roster is around the same size as XV, the actual fighting mechanics and the balancing are what is important. XV understood that. I would rather play as 30 characters that each have their own unique playing style and can hold their own against each other instead of 100 characters that all play the exact same way and are completely useless against certain other characters.

I'm not saying it equals a quality game, but it does allow you to try a multitude of strategies and have dream match ups, for example we couldn't even do Buuhan vs Vegito, Super Gogeta vs Janemba, Majin Vegeta vs SSJ2 Goku. Fights that are iconic in Dragon Ball for just how good they are.

Edit: The only way to get those dream match ups right now is to have a PC copy of Xenoverse and download mods which is too much hassle.

I do like having the options for dream matches open, but I'd only have the drive to re-enact those dream matches if the gameplay was worth it.

Well obviously. Xenoverse didn't have the best combat, it was basically a more open BT3, there were hardly any real combos, I'd argue BT3 has more combo options than Xenoverse. But nevertheless Bandai listen to the fans and they will improve accordingly.

Each character had their own combo button commands at the very least. Not one person I played with played like another.

I didn't find that in Xenoverse, I just found myself mashing square over and over and over again and occasionally using a Super or Ultimate Attack.

You have to buckle down and explore the options, something you can't do in BT3 because once you master one character, you've pretty much mastered all of them. Even the create-a-characters have their own unique buffs, strengths, and weaknesses depending on what race and gender you are.

I found myself mashing square and sometimes triangle no matter what race I went, other than grabs, I didn't notice much difference between them.

If you search it up, you can find guides that tell you the differences between all the races/genders.

Towa and Mira are definitely coming back that's for sure, but to have it so that instead of going to pivotal moments in history (super saiyan goku vs freiza, gohan vs cell etc) they're just going to go back a few days and tack on extra fights that took place prior while still revisiting the original fights, just seems somewhat lazy to me, and I would prefer that they stick to canon material seeing as xenoverse is extremely close to close to DBO and that is pure canon, they can explore non canon stuff in dlc ala GT, one of the reasons I was disappointed that they added broly and ssj bardock. And too many characters is just overwhelming, especially when 30% of them were alternate forms treated as separate characters. I'm entirely biased, but i just want them to make a single player (with multiplayer hubs) version of DBO especially since the west was never formally given the chance to play it.
