Firaga 5,947 Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) Source (or at least one of them) Yes. You read that right. This. "Space Jam 2". It's coming... If it's not bad enough that it feels like the film and TV industries have made it a habit to capitalize on nostalgia by cranking out reboots and/or sequels left and right (and I'm not trying to sound like a hypocrite and say those are all are bad, because they're not, but still, these industries are still doing this so I'm just pointing it out), now they're trying to make a buck on creating a sequel to one of the most beloved kids movies of the 90s... ... which also happens to be one of, if not the, worst God damn pieces of media that has ever been associated with Looney Tunes, the NBA, and film in general. And yes, I'm saying that Space Jam is awful, because it is. Bear in mind, this is coming from someone who watched this at a young age. I'm in the same boat as you. But, take off the rose-colored glasses and gather at least ten brain cells inside your head and you'll see it how I see it: a calculated, soulless cash grab with subpar acting, a stupid stupid plot, virtually no sense of storytelling outside hyping up Jordan and any potential want to purchase merchandise, other overall blatant obvious attempts at pandering, and the birth of one of the worst Looney Tunes characters ever in Lola freaking Bunny. And if you're defending this piece of crap, you're the demographic that Warner Brothers is trying to inflict a sequel on because they know you won't object and throw your money all over it. Do not give them your money. Yes, this is basically turning into a rant, but seriously people, this is happening because we let it happen. Space Jam isn't even a hill worth dying on in the first place. I mean, Transformers? Jem & The Holograms? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Cinderella (well technically)? All understandable properties to be upset when they're being messed with. They are or are a part of established franchises that people have come to know and love. But freaking Space Jam? The basketball movie where the gimmick is that an NBA player plays basketball with watered down versions of the Looney Tunes cast (plus one really bad new addition) against a bunch of a cartoon aliens? Really? I'd sooner defend Alvin & The Chipmunks. So yeah, in conclusion, this news sucks. Also, just for kicks, I went through some Twitter feeds to see some reactions to this news and I found this joke Tweet about a supposed scrapped script for this film: For the record, I would actually want to see a version of Space Jam 2 any way similar to this. Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) i always thought this movie had ascended to meme status and that was why people kept quoting the theme and saying how good it was without giving reasons as to why they thought that was the case. but now that a sequel is happening and i keep seeing those same posts i'm starting to think there never was a joke and for some reason people really liked this movie. edit: also let me just say i look forward to the teaser trailer that starts off with a slow piano rendition of the Space Jam theme. it's going to happen. i know it. i'm pretty sure by now there is a law stating that at least one trailer for the revival of a nostalgic property must contain a slow piano rendition of said property's theme to capitalize on the nostalgia crowd Edited May 3, 2016 by Headphone Jack 4 Kittenz, Kyouma-Blade, Firaga and 1 other reacted to this

Lol, I'm seeing it anyway, your rant has no power over me. I love that movie to death, and I know fully well how bad it is now that I can actually analyze things. If nothing else it was hilarious in how bad it was, so I think it'll be worth seeing at least once, if for no other reason. Also, f you, I like Lola...well, her Looney Tunes Show counterpart anyway. I can kind of agree that her Space Jam personality is a little "eh", but in all fairness, how often did they really use her beyond that? She's one of the more scarce characters, so it seems a little ridiculous to me to get so worked up over her. Though I could just be saying this because I find you ranting both unbecoming and funny at the same time. I mean you're ranting over how bad Space Jam is. Next thing you'll tell me that The Room was one of the worst movies ever made and that Batman and Robin was one of the worst grossing superhero movies of all time or something, lol. X) Let me just put it out there for the record that I'm not one of those nostalgia-blinded sheep you seem to believe in. I may have nothing but fond memories of this movie, but I understand it's got some major faults. Unlike you though, I embrace it as a joke rather than getting my knickers in a twist over it. Just settle down man, I mean at this point it was kind of inevitable that they were going to try this anyway. These days Hollywood will make the most reoccurring meme into it's own movie, and that seems to be what's happening. If anything it won't make that good of a box office return and things will run their course. Sometimes Hollywood just needs to learn the hard way. i always thought this movie had ascended to meme status and that was why people kept quoting the theme and saying how good it was without giving reasons as to why they thought that was the case. but now that a sequel is happening and i keep seeing those same posts i'm starting to think there never was a joke and for some reason people really liked this movie. edit: also let me just say i look forward to the teaser trailer that starts off with a slow piano rendition of the Space Jam theme. it's going to happen. i know it. i'm pretty sure by now there is a law stating that at least one trailer for the revival of a nostalgic property must contain a slow piano rendition of said property's theme to capitalize on the nostalgia crowd ....huh, I'm going to start looking out for that now... Firaga 5,947 Posted May 3, 2016 Lol, I'm seeing it anyway, your rant has no power over me. I never said it did. I just wanted everybody to be aware of the ramifications. She's one of the more scarce characters, so it seems a little ridiculous to me to get so worked up over her. I'm aware of how she is in TLTS and I agree that's she a much better character there. But we're not talking about TLTS, we're talking about Space Jam. And I'm not getting worked up either, I was just stating that she was horrible. Which she is. X) There are people who legitimately still believe it's a good movie. Don't ask me why, they're just are. Let me just put it out there for the record that I'm not one of those nostalgia-blinded sheep you seem to believe in. I may have nothing but fond memories of this movie, but I understand it's got some major faults. Unlike you though, I embrace it as a joke rather than getting my knickers in a twist over it. These days Hollywood will make the most reoccurring meme into it's own movie, and that seems to be what's happening. If anything it won't make that good of a box office return and things will run their course. Sometimes Hollywood just needs to learn the hard way. Well first off, no, they're not learning anything. They keep doing it over and over again. Transformers, Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Jem & the Holograms, Terminator, Jurassic Park, RoboCop, the list goes on and on. This trend is not something you can just ignore, it's blatantly apparent in the realm of film. Honestly though, that's not really what I was trying to focus on. The main gist of what I was trying to say was that this trend has gotten to a point where even shit like Space Jam is being exploited. Again, I don't hate reboots or sequels to "nostalgia" properties. I'll welcome them with open arms if they're any good. Still, even I have a line, and this news pretty much crossed it, not just because Space Jam is awful, but because people like you are going to see it anyway and give the producers insight to continue repeating this cycle until the well runs dry. This is the sort of thing where we as consumers need to say "no, this is not a good product. I don't want more of this. Please try something else." At the same time, if I want to see this thing, I'm going to see it. I mean Maleficent is already getting a sequel and I thought that was crap, so clearly no one in there is listening. Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) They're not listening because people still go see their garbage. People need to stop seeing their garbage. It's a very simple process. Look, idealistically, you're right. Realistically speaking however, that's just not going to happen. People have different tastes and some of them want to see this movie. If anything this is serving their interests, and if they want to watch and enjoy it, that's their right. I would prefer that they make these things better as well, but however it comes out, it's just kind of the way it is. I'm not saying there's no point to not seeing it, but think about it, it's just not going to happen. If you take out all the people who are going to see it cause they think it will be good, or all those with nostalgia that know it will be bad but want to see it for a good laugh, or those who just don't know any better one way or another, you know who else IS going to see this movie? Reviewers, particularly those who are just as eager as you are to rip this movie a new one. You can preach it all you want, but the fact is that this is a self-feeding cycle, people will tell other people "this movie is going to be crap, don't watch it", but will only go and watch it themselves just to say "see what'd I tell you, it was crap". It's not a simple process because the problem is more complex than the solution, to the point that it outweighs it. It's like how in KH2 when they say that if everyone's heart was filled with light the Heartless would cease to exist, since they only exist from the darkness in people's hearts. But realistically that can't work because everything is made of both light AND darkness, you need that balance otherwise you become unstable, you'd just be causing another problem. It's a situation where, yeah the solution is simple enough in concept, but when put to practical use it just doesn't cut out, it cancels itself out. Setrex 1,031 Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) I liked Space Jam as a kid. In hindsight it's a bad movie, but as a kid I didn't care. I'll see this Space Jam 2 out of kicks for my own nostalgia (and I guess yay Looney Tunes). My only hope is that the Looney Tunes will be 2D and not CGI. Kothlim 4 Posted May 25, 2016 All my nope. The first one was good enough. A sequel is not needed, especially after its been this long. Its like when they waited 8 years to make the sequel to Boondock Saints. It just didnt have anywhere near the same feel and the movie just sucked. The jokes were all so forced. Only really good part was Rocko's speech. Even that was lack luster. So yeah, no sequels when its been so long since the movie came out. Bad juju. King_Graham 135 Posted June 3, 2016 People seem to like the movie simply because they like the idea of it. Truth be told, Space Jam is a glorified commercial with hit or miss jokes and a bland lead. It's still enjoyable, but I think they really should NOT make this sequel just more of the same. That was transparent enough with Alice Through The Looking Glass. I liked Space Jam as a kid. In hindsight it's a bad movie, but as a kid I didn't care. I'll see this Space Jam 2 out of kicks for my own nostalgia (and I guess yay Looney Tunes). My only hope is that the Looney Tunes will be 2D and not CGI. The tech for 2D motion capture exists, but I hope it's hand drawn too. I also hope they retain Lola's.peronality from TLTS, where she was actually a Loony Tune.I'm not going to bother quoting that. Change only happens when people have the balls to speak their minds about it.It happens when they actually do something about it in addition to speaking. And even then, on a mass scale, it's slow as molasses. And even if the standard for movies is raised, it will just be a scale shift and there will be a new kind of dumb movie. 2 Firaga and Setrex reacted to this
