Nero Kunivas 3,046 Posted April 26, 2016 Status based jokes aside, I've not grown out of it at all nor will I ever. See, the KH Series is great and all, however you can play other games, do other things and generally have fun with life without looking back at KH and saying you've "outgrown it." It will be a wait to KH3, but during that wait you have Unchained X, II.8 and in the Non-KH Side of things: Dark Souls III, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy XIV and its various expansions, even games you might not have played like Devil May Cry or Street Fighter or Destiny, anything really to keep your amusement and interest in the Gaming World. With the so called "Side-Games", I wouldn't say Kingdom Hearts has gone downhill to the extent you claim. Gameplay might have been odd, and at worst imbalanced for BBS (Thunder Surge) and DDD (Balloons....) plus extra plot convolution, but overall, they are still good games. (358/2 Days is not. At all. Neither's Coded.) And with II.8 on the horizon, with the KH3 Demo 0.2 included, it brings the long awaited Kingdom Hearts III that much closer to us. Plus, KH3 is a higher budget and bigger game than the "Side-Games" so it'll be better. 3 Blooming Marluxia, Felixx and atheist123 reacted to this
KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted April 26, 2016 You can never outgrow being child like. I haven't and I am in my first year of college. The series will always have a special place in my heart.

Philip Ellwell 5,487 Posted April 26, 2016 Ehhhh...a little. My interest comes and goes for it: it's still there, and sometimes I'll go into marathon game sessions with one of them, or read the manga again, and other times I pretty much ignore it altogether. But I'm not really going to give up on it: I still like the games (Even if I haven't played them in awhile) and the manga is some of my favorite mangas, so I'd say I've dropped from diehard fan to more casual over the years, but I'm still present. 1 The 13th Kenpachi reacted to this
tysonrss 38 Posted April 26, 2016 I know the feeling. I feel like I've grown out of it too, I'm not really even anticipating kingdom hearts 3 like I thought I would. Maybe because they keep releasing these side games like you said. BBS used to be my favorite kh game but I've played through it so many times on my psp that I was forcing myself to play it with the hd release. And I only played through ddd once, tried again but just couldn't stay interested because of the annoying dream eaters and how you have to train them to get abilities. I will get 2.8 just to have it for aquas story and the unchained movie but maybe it's because we're just getting older. And the more games they release the less the story overall makes sense. I'll probably quit kingdom hearts after the xeahnort saga is finished(can't even spell his name right anymore lol). Nowadays when I try to play these games I just lose interest, probably because of the crappy combat system. Kh2 is the only one that had a good battle system but sad to say kh2 isn't even my favorite title of the series. Oh well. Same with Pokemon, took me forever to finish x, haven't completed omega sapphire and I plan to get moon when it comes out knowing full well I won't play it either. Although lately, not too many games interest me anymore and I play them for like a hour and hardly play them after that. I will get final fantasy 15 and the 7 remake. Looking forward to both but other then that? I just give up on games. I really believe that it's due to maturity growth. We all grew up with kingdom hearts as kids or teenagers growing up and with the release of 3, most of us are in our 20s moving on with life. Shame on you square for taking so damn long. 2 Dio Brando and The 13th Kenpachi reacted to this
Shimmy 458 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) I tend to pace my interests as moods, but I never particularly grow out of anything. If I like something I like something, and it's almost always constant. Occasionally I'll feel like something else but I still like everything else. Kind of like you have your favorite foods, and occasionally you crave one more then the other. Pokemon is my favorite food, but lately I've been in the mood for kicking back and watching cartoons. That being said my love for Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts remains intact. As for the series going downhill? That's completely subjective. I get the impression that you prefer darker plots better suited for adults, which is a-ok. For me? I like a little spice in my life but I always need silliness to balance it out as well. The absurdity that is the Kingdom Hearts plot is well suited for me, as I enjoy deciphering codes and connecting ridiculous hints in a way. I enjoy how this series has emotional, serious moments, and I especially enjoy how it has it's comedic and adorable moments. It's not for everyone, but it's for me. As the series progresses and gets more complicated I have more room to investigate and pick up on little hints. It's fun for me. I also don't focus on negatives even if I'm aware they're there. I am well aware and won't deny the complications done to plot by the inclusion of time travel, but frankly, it's just dumb fun for me and I won't ever let it bother me. I also try to avoid voicing negatives because one man's trash is another's treasure. Something that may make me roll my eyes may bring joy to others and I won't let my own feelings get them. Generally watching other people appreciate things I had trouble appreciating myself brings myself joy, though I admit it might not be for everyone. I just personally like immature things. Your feelings are completely understandable and logical, I just can't say that I personally agree. As someone who signed up to talk about Kingdom Hearts on a Kingdom Hearts Forum I feel inclined to speak as someone who enjoys the series for what it is. Kingdom Hearts is a fun way to pass the time for me and I have my doubts it'll ever be irritating to me. Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted April 26, 2016 i wouldn't say i've grown out of it but i do think i've reached an age where i can recognize the flaws when i see them. KH, CoM and KH2 form a pretty solid trilogy on their own and the games that come after are either serviceable (BBS) or insulting (DDD). at this point i'm only playing KH3 because it feels like an obligation. 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
KairiKeybasH 851 Posted April 26, 2016 Not me, i just got into the series 3 years ago... I have invested so much time in the Kingdom Hearts Fandom lately, then the Skylanders fandom, those fans hate me, but at least not the KH Fans.
Svard 164 Posted April 26, 2016 I haven't grown out of it, but I do hope that they stop releasing so many side-titles after the Xehanort Saga, and just stick to releasing main titles. Also, it would be nice if they become more consitent with major release schedules, like every 3-4 years or so, 2-3 if they can. However, if they do continue with side titles, then there should only be one in between each major release, so as to make the story more consistent, and not go in 100 different directions. VisitJoan 2,713 Posted April 26, 2016 For me, I don't think that's a possibility. It's a beautiful story about friendship, journeys, and the internal battles that effect us all. I'm not obsessed with it at the moment, but that doesn't mean I don't like the series. It's just that like other people have said, it's kinda a quiet time right now. So the love for the series hasn't left, it's just on the back burner.
ShadowKeyblade 219 Posted April 26, 2016 If we had grown out of KH, I don't think most people would be on this site. From my perspective, it's a definite nope. When I think back to everything I love about the series, everything really does just click into place. While the recent games haven't been amazing, I can't say I was ever really disappointed with them, or that they killed my interest. In fact, some of them kind of renewed my interest. I will say that sometimes I do get a little burnt out when I focus on KH in some way for too long, but I think that really happens to everyone. I don't see myself ever growing out of it per say. There's just way too much that I like from the series. 1 Movies798 reacted to this
Dracozombie 4,554 Posted April 26, 2016 My interests in things come and go. I ever find myself seriously invested in a work, there's a good chance I won't be leaving it behind for good, but I can put it out of my mind when another fandom is catching my attention. It was actually only a month or two ago that I got back into KH. Before that, I was focused on Final Fantasy (mainly VII), and before that it was Megaman X, and before that it was Megaman Classic, and before that it was Pokemon, and before that it was... Kingdom Hearts. Yeah, I have a few fandoms on rotation. For some of them, KH was either on the side or dropped off my radar entirely, but I never found the desire to drop it altogether. I just got interested in other things. But I can understand leaving a fandom behind if you've legitimately just lost interest in it. Personal tastes change, or maybe a series has taken a direction you just don't appreciate. I'm aware of the flaws in KH, but they don't bother me that much -- either I'm good at finding things to like about a work, or maybe KH is just one of those series where you have to focus on the positives unless you want its (probably numerous) flaws to ruin the experience. As it stands, I spend more time writing fanfiction these days, usually AUs, over focusing on the actual games. Since there are so many dry spells and I'm unable to (and somewhat uninterested in) playing Chi, I don't have much choice if I want my fill of KH stuff. PrinceNoctis 1,011 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Well, some games have kind of surpassed it for me but Kingdom Hearts still holds a special place in my heart (see what I did there?) I totally understand what you're saying about the discussion topics...how many times have we discussed world ideas for KH3 --' I actually don't participate as much as I did before in KH discussions, I mostly post on threads about Final Fantasy, RWBY, animes, etc. Maybe when KH2.8 comes out that'll change...We'll actually have something to discuss lol Edited April 26, 2016 by PrinceNoctis
Godskeybladewarrior 73 Posted April 27, 2016 Honestly, I prefer the KH2 manga over the game story wise. They did a great job with it. There's some dark stuff going on and it adds background to some characters that didn't get screen time and does away with pointless worlds with no story context. At least the version I read on mangafox
Soravids 1,056 Posted April 28, 2016 I love both Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy may be darker, but it's just as fanatical and unrealistic as KH. If you say loving KH is childish, then so is FF. They are both great franchises regardless of age.

Guest Posted April 30, 2016 Inevitably, you're going to get tired of anything if you're exposed to it for too long. Take a break from the series until the next big thing happens. There's moments where I haven't bothered with Kingdom Hearts. It never meant that I've grown out of it: it just meant that I needed to get myself into other interests. Setrex 1,031 Posted May 6, 2016 My ties to the series are much different than what they were a few years back I feel. When I first played Kingdom Hearts I was 13. Both KH1 & KH2 for Christmas 2006, I'll never forget it! The series is undoubtedly the biggest obsession I've had with any video game next to probably Pokémon (because childhood). Games like Days, Birth by Sleep, Re:coded and KH3D all got turned out quickly one after the other and it was a whirlwind of a ride. The franchise is still my favourite and I feel it has shaped a lot of what I've done in the last 10 years of my life since playing it. For example, I wouldn't have taught myself how to use image editing or video editing software for amv/gmv purposes on Youtube. I wouldn't have got the chance to make some really great friends through my love for the franchise either (both irl and online). If anything my love for the franchise is definitely still strong. Nowadays I have far more access to merchandise associated with the series (except for my dream Play Arts Aqua figure pls Square Enix) so I feel that having things around me is a good way to remind me of the series that I love. Of course I know nothing lasts forever. (I'll use Pokémon as a reference here) After the release of BW I became frustrated with the Pokémon series and only recently regained faith in it after the release of ORAS. I was overwhelmed by games that did very little to remind me of the good ol' days of the series, to the point where when XY released I was incredibly critical of the game for being far too short and doing nothing to push the series to feel fresh. The lack of Pokémon game in 2015 has been a breather for me and I'm going into Sun and Moon with a great deal of confidence. Sometimes it's healthy to just take a break from something rather than outgrow it. As for Kingdom Hearts, I feel people have grown out of the series because Kingdom Hearts III has taken as long as it has to come out. Like I mentioned above, I got KH1 & KH2 for Christmas 10 years ago. Like. That's a long time to wait for a Kingdom Hearts game on the same scale as those two. I don't hate the games that came after KH2, but I can see why the constant keeping up with consoles and a plotline that takes more turns than a large command board in BbS is frustrating for some. To answer the topic's question, no I haven't grown out of the series. However, I'm currently 23 and I forgive the Kingdom Hearts series for stuff far more than I do for other video games out there. That cannot last forever and I know that the series will take a dark turn somewhere and it'll be hard for me to care. Yet... for now I'll continue loving it.
