Why I think that Pride Lands isn't going to be in Kingdom Hearts 3

Recommended Posts

As much as I love Pride Lands, I don't think it's going to be in kingdom hearts 3 and here's why

1. The way the battle system is in kh3 as of now with the flowmotion and all it would be pretty weird seeing Lion Sora doing flowmotion. Is it even possible with him in that form?

2. old maps from the previous games won't return, which could mean that pride lands won't return( I honestly still don't fully understand what he meant by it though)

What do you guys think about this?

I believe it was said that old maps are areas in Disney Worlds we have already been to. And as much as I like the Lion Sora form, I don't see it returning either, though I would like to. (Ex. Olympus Coliseum is returning as a world but we will not be returning to the Coliseum or Underworld.)

I was thinking, if Pride Lands did come back, Sora might not even use Flowmo or even Shot Lock. (Well--, maybe a special Shot Lock he can only use in Pride Lands.) And he didn't even use his Drive forms in there.

I would possibly guess, they might add some kind of Lion fighting tactic for Lion Sora, just like what they did in the second game. Dash ability and those other ones.

At first, I thought it mean that the old maps won't return, BUT the same area in the open world with new areas could return, but yeah, your idea is probably for accurate then mine.

Just look at mysterious tower. It seems like the outside area of the world is going to return.

Honestly I just think it won't be included cause the main plot of LK2 isn't as interesting compared to that of LK1. But your first reasoning makes sense. As for the "old maps not returning" thing, what Nomura meant by that is that they're going to make everything entirely new and from scratch, meaning that nothing is going to be reused.

Like for instance, take Olympus Coliseum. By now it's probably the most familiar world in the KH universe, and for good reason too, it's in practically every game up until 3D, which was almost entirely new worlds. And in each game what were the basic rooms that you always saw no matter what? The Coliseum Gates, the Lobby/Vestibule, and the Coliseum. Those were always the three rooms you saw no matter which game you were playing. Some games added some areas, with KH2 introducing the Underworld as the bulk of the world and BbS introducing the Town Near Thebes. Other titles would maintain the same layout from KH1 like in Days, but with Re:CoM those areas were used purely for cutscenes and most of the time you're going through the usual maze of synthesized rooms the rest of the game is known for, while Re:Coded created an entire labyrinth with a similar theme. So while with every game you always got at least a little bit of variety, it's still always been the same rooms that they made years ago, just with slightly touched up graphics each time. So in a sense, they are recycling the same map each game, while adding or subtracting things each time.

Well now with KH3 already getting footage shown, we can see that there have been some MAJOR changes to the world of Olympus. For one thing it looks like a majority of the world is going to focus on the actual world around Mt. Olympus itself. The footage has been pretty limited at this point, but so far we have seen various cliffs and valleys from presumably Mt. Olympus itself and at least one cloudy cliff-side area where the Rock Titan will be fought. So while we haven't seen the Coliseum itself, we are pretty sure that this is the same world, considering all of the Greek statues and the Keyblade Sora later uses in the trailer.

Now I would find it hard to believe that we would never actually set foot in the coliseum itself, so there's a pretty decent chance we'll get to explore that place again too. But you may ask, "How can they do that if none of the old maps are going to be reused?" Simple. Rebuild them from scratch. We've already seen them do this with Twilight Town's Market Street: Tram Common. The very first early teaser simply showed a more or less faithful recreation of the area rendered in higher end graphics, but all the trailers shown since then have shown off the same area with a HEAVY makeover, with more details on the bricks, creeping plant-life, and even the glow of the afternoon light, as well as other extra details that add more to the environment. You can still tell it's the same area, it's just been entirely remade. With changes like this, they could probably add smaller hidden areas within the room, or even entrances to other new areas as well. The same can be said about the Mysterious Tower, and since Yen Sid's tower has changed the interior before, I wouldn't be surprised if they rebuilt at least the outside, entrance, and study but made the other rooms entirely different as well.

So with that in mind, it makes it entirely plausible to suspect that they could do the same with the original rooms of the Olympus Coliseum, remake them entirely so that they not only fit in with the new map they are making, but also have more depth, life, and secrets added to them than they ever had before. That way you're recreating a familiar place without reusing what you've already seen and used before a million times. That's what Nomura means by "no old maps will be used", no assets used in previous gen hardware will be brought over, they are literally building everything anew from within the Unreal engine, which allows them to not only recreate what they already made before, but add to and improve it in ways that make it brand new. So in a way you will see familiar areas, but they will be entirely reimagined in a way that you aren't having the same experience in that room you had in previous games. They aren't necessarily eliminating rooms (i.e. not going to the Coliseum itself or the inside of the Mysterious Tower), but rather recreating and rethinking them while adding vast new areas in-between. Does that make any sense?

In any case, IF they were to include the Pride Lands, they would likely apply the same concepts to rework it, but you are right in that it might be a huge challenge to make the new dynamic movement of KH3 work with Sora's Lion Form unless they were to remove it for the familiar KH2 controls, which would be a serious downgrade in my opinion. But we will just have to wait and see what happens. You never know, they might just surprise us and say that they included it anyway and came up with some crazy new powers for Lion Form. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Hmm, I see what you mean, but Lion Sora wouldn't have to necessarily use Flowmotion in the Pride Lands, ya know?  Cuz if I remember correctly, even though Drive Forms were a thing in Kingdom Hearts II, I couldn't use them in the Pride Lands, ya know?  So if Pride Lands returned, we'd probably have some of the gameplay elements of other worlds be restricted!

As for maps, we could get some different locales, such as Zira's lair, the battlefield where the two lioness clans fight, and other areas of the world, ya know?  All Nomura's got to do is be a little creative, ya know?

But hey, if Pride Lands doesn't return in Kingdom Hearts III, then I'll understand.  Granted, I'll be sad, but I'll understand! :3
