Recommended Posts

lmfao xD, I believe Otaku would be the closest

Somehow I knew youd be the first to reply to this thread lol. But yeah, isn't an "Otaku" kind of the same thing too?

I mean kind of, but a Otaku is an insult to another Japanese/Asian person, Weeaboo is an insult to some dumb nerd who's nationality is something besides Japanese/Asian of a sort. :/

Why did you think that?

Because you seem to have an interest in Japanese stuff lol (and so do I).

OK. Thanks for the answer (:

Ok ok, so I'm Okinawan blah blah and I just wanna say that weaboo isn't really a term there or mainland Japan (if what my cousins tell me is correct or anything) but I think otaku is close enough yeah. An otaku by the way, is a derogatory term for someone who is so immersed into anime culture that they kind of lose perception of reality. At least that's what it means in Japan, though it's recently become more positive. Kind of like nerd in English or something.

Personally I think it's rad if people have an interest in Japanese culture, language, anime/whatever. Don't really appreciate the stereotypes but that's a thing regardless lol.  It's kind of annoying when people ask me a question about Japan and I give a fair answer and then they argue with me that Japan is perfect though

Overall I think people should just... like whatever they want to like y'know? There's really nothing wrong with liking things I guess.

Now I'm just wondering what their interpretation of an "overly-Americanized" Japanese person is.

Well... it's kind of like someone who can't eat traditional food, prefers westernized food/clothes-style, and they're kind of associated with being 'rude' lol

Again though it's really nothing major. A majority of people over there say despite being born in the US, I'm less westernized then the 'youth of today' so I'm pretty inclined to say it's bs.

I guess the best American equivalent I can thing of is "damn the youth of today not eating their veggies back in my day we hiked 40 miles to school and we liked it!!111!!! >:((" That's just my opinion though and what's going on back at 'home' isn't always top priority for me so yeahh. I guess ask other people too.

So basically, to be a reverse weaboo, you have to be American in the sense that you're a huge jackass.

I'd take offense to this but in terms of the other way around, it's pretty much the same exact thing. xD

I find weebs incredibly annoying, they're definitely the equivalent of Otaku. I have no problem with people being interested in japanese culture and entertainment, but I personally know people who were obsessed and came to school legitimately acting as exaggerated as anime character and saying random words in Japanese. They were so disconnected I didn't want to be around them.

I never understood why the term was coined 'weeaboo" anyway. Wee to me sounds like 'urination' while 'boo' sounds like to strike fear or to scare....so maybe to scare someone into weeing their pants? I hope someone can clarify this word for me.

I was under the impression that weaboo meant someone who idealizes Japan's culture through exported media I.e video games manga, anime and such without really knowing it/experiencing it firsthand. Pretty much basing their conceptions of Japan through stuff that doesn't portray their actual daily life. Not to mention that they criticize their own culture yet never Japan's.

I do sometimes wonder if people take their obsessions a little bit too bar at times. I do feel that any obsession to an extreme degree ought to be tamed. Still, it would be wrong of me to judge them. Underneath it all, they are people as well, and that's what should be recognized first.

This comic strip is the origin of "Weeaboo".  Obviously it doesn't mean anything. 4chan gave it a meaning.

I don't like being called weeaboo (because I'm into Japanese stuff and anime X3). My dad likes Japanese culture and he's not Japanese. Weeaboo is a stupid term. Sorry if anyone disagrees with me. I just don't like that word.

It's reserved for people who take their fascination too far. As long as you're not an ass about it, you're fine.
