KHRecoded Why the Hate for Re:coded?

Recommended Posts

You know...I've been reading comments on YouTube videos and opinions on Re:coded. Everyone seems to hate it, but I honestly liked it (at least a lot more than Days). I thought the gameplay was much more solid and enjoyable. And even if the story was weak, the game more than made up for it with the minigames and dungeon-like "breach" sequences.

That's why I made this thread: if you hate Re:coded, why? Also, if you like Re:coded, you could say why as well. I'm curious.

It's not that I hate it, but it is far worse than the rest of Kingdom Hearts games.Personally, I didn't like the minigame-like gameplay.I found it extremely irritating. As for the story, it turns out that it actually has a connection to KH3, since the datascape resembles the Book of Prophecies.

I think a lot of people have just never played it, and kind of just bandwagon hate it.

Honestly, the story isn't even that bad. It doesn't progress very much in the grand scheme of things, but the characters are great, and we finally got Sora, Donald, and Goofy back together, albeit very briefly. It's my second favorite of the handheld games after DDD.

I found it boring and it wasn't neat.

The graphics were exactly the same as in Days, the gameplay was similar to BBS with the commands, which I didn't really like. The minigames, as khsg said, aren't enjoyable, and could even be considered to be irritating at times. It wasn't that bad, I finished it, but I didn't feel like playing it anymore once it was finished, I finished it mainly because it was a KH game and I want to know the overall story, but I didn't really enjoy it an awful lot. At least it was short.

I found the gameplay bad, I found the music bad, I found the concept alright, but for the most part the story was god awful until 2.5 rolled around and added The Book of Prophecies and the new Destiny Secret Ending to it. The music also got a bit better in the 2.5 version.

I don't hate it, but I'd definitely say it ranks lower on my list than some of the other installments in the series. I enjoyed the gameplay, no doubt about that, but the story was a bit on the weaker side, and I guess that's why I didn't enjoy it as much. At times it just kind of felt like I was replaying a watered down version of the original KH when visiting the worlds. However, I will say I really liked that you could collect avatar parts, that was pretty fun haha.

Between the two DS games, both have their pros and cons, but if you were to ask me which one I favor more it would always be Days.

Because there's a hate train for every game in the series. Seriously. I have seen hate for each of them.

Anyway, I like Re:Coded, personally. (BBS and Days vie for the top of my favorites list overall, if I'm being honest, but I thought Re:Coded was really good for a handheld.) There's some repetition in the gameplay and stages, yeah, but every game does that at some point.

well in terms of harm it does to the story, it's not a serious offender. it feels like a pretty pointless game to have in the series though.

while the gameplay is more enjoyable than Days (imo), the story makes a second playthrough very difficult.

looking back at it, Re:Coded was kind of boring and it felt like it was never going to end. Seriously they fake you out with ending twice and make you run through the Disney worlds 3 times. it starts to wear thin.

the Re:Coded cutscenes in 2.5 also show how "meh" the story is. everything feels so drawn out and slow. the only good thing was that we got to see a bit of actual characterization between Sora, Donald and Goofy. of course the Sora was just data so it sort of takes away from that a bit.

all in all i don't hate Re:Coded but if i had to choose a game to remove from the series i'd pick Dream Drop Distance. just saying.

I honestly found it to be enjoyable as well. It was quite an interesting taje on things with everything being computerised and all. Though, the only issue is the story as it has little contribution to the main lore of the series. Other than that, great game.

I hated it mainly because of the gameplay gimmicks (that's what they felt like to me) that weren't fun, that didn't feel like kingdom hearts,  and because the story was overall pointless and horrible.  I felt like the only thing it had going for it was the command deck system it took from bbs.  Definitely the weakest entry in the series in my opinion

I like re.coded, but despite that I can't deny it was a huge mess of a game, it provided a number of promising ideas and the gameplay tried very hard to be varied, but while these individual features were interesting I just felt they failed to combine together to form something as solid and complete as some of the other installments of the series.

As far as story goes it failed to grip me but as a fan of the series I enjoyed it because it had the elements I enjoyed from the other titles, the game does get to hard of a time though, it wasn't all bad.

i liked it WAAAAAAAY better than days, KH, 3D, and maybe even re:com. the gameplay was fun except for wonderland, the music was catchy, and the concept was good. the story isn't even that bad, i think people are still just salty about the fact that they were thinking that KH3 would be the next game.

I really only like it because they made Sora mostly intelligent again, if only for one game. It's one reason I despise the Re:Coded cutscenes in 2.5 for dumbing him down even more.

To me the problem with recoded is that the story and the gameplay are boring.Going though the same Wonderland or Agrabah over and over with the exact same gameplay is boring.Chain of Memories wasn't great either but at least it had the card battle system that was unique and kinda fun in the boss fight and it had a great story.Days gameplay was worst then Recoded but it made up for it by making Roxas, one of the best character in the series, the main character of the game. The story was pretty good and it was very exciting back then that they were making a game focusing on Organization XIII.In recoded the only things I remember about the story is Mickey remembering Terra,Aqua and Ven and that apparently Maleficent cares about the data world and that will probably be a plot point for KH3,I think the rest is irrelevant.

I like the gameplay for Re:coded but the story was almost pointless, You play though just over half of the game only to have the datescape reset and everything that happened in the story just never really happened. The only part of the story that held any real interest for me was when Data Sora went to Castle Oblivion. I like Re:coded now because they did fix the story in 2.5 Remix and added more to allow it to tie into Kingdom Hearts III

Yeah... the more people point out the flaws, the more I notice them. It's made me like the game significantly less. It's still fun and all, but it suffers in some ways, like the floaty combos and the split into 3 stories.
