HOLY SHIT IT ACTUALLY LOOKS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER LEGO GAMES

 

Third-person shooting elements, what look to be much improved ship segments, and Multi-Builds that can hopefully let you actually strategize all seem really fascinating to me. Plus, they talked a little about the non-movie levels, so maybe the people who whined about a lack of content from just one movie can shut up about it.

 

The game is looking pretty great, I think!

 The game itself looks good, though I'm not a big fan of the lego's talking. I never felt that change was warranted. Them mouthing everything was fine. It was both comical and simple. And simplicity is best if you ask me. They conveyed the stories previously without needing to speak and give you the exposition and run down.

I kind of agree, but I really love what they've been doing recently by taking the actual movie audio and building scenes around them; it can make for some really good comedy too. Plus, the writing is usually pretty good for the original game content, so I don't think it's too bad of a trade-off.

 

LOL, those ship segments are Fighter Squadron: Lego/ simple edition, we out here being like battlefront now.

 

 

From what little I've played of Fighter Squadron mode, it could really use some simplification. I don't see how that's a bad thing.

It looks so fun. As someone who hasn't played a Lego game since the old Indiana Jones ones, I'm kinda excited to see what changes have been made since then, and all these other new additions look fantastic, too. I haven't been excited for a Lego game (Or a new Star Wars game for that matter) in a long time, but this one's got my attention.

I haven't been excited for a Lego game (Or a new Star Wars game for that matter) in a long time, but this one's got my attention.

 

The Lego games have made some changes over the year, but TFA looks way different in certain ways.

 

One thing recent Lego games have done (not sure if this was in Indiana Jones or not, never played them) is how characters aim, which is you hold down the attack button until a cursor pops up, then you move the cursor to where you want the character to aim, and hopefully it locks on and the character shoots or whatever ability they have at the target. It's incredibly clunky and weird, especially given the more or less static camera that makes it hard to tell exactly where you're aiming in a 3D space. The third-persons shooter elements, even if they end up being really simple, look like a much better method of aiming (though I get the feeling third-person shooting will only be for certain firefight sequences). The concept of Multi-Builds is also fascinating to me, what with them promising unique solutions to problems that hopefully require more than just holding a button. It opens up a lot of options for unique playthroughs and give even more reason to replay levels than the same old Collect Everything You Couldn't The First Time style.

 

Long story short, Lego TFA looks like it's trying to improve on the formula a lot more than it's predecessors, and I believe that's a very good thing.

The shooting mechanic must have come after the Indiana Jones games, I don't remember those at all. I only spent a little bit of time with the second, but I feel like I would remember something like that. The new aiming system looked really good, but I can also see it only being used for a few moments. The Multi-Builds also look really cool. It's going to be fun experimenting with those. I also liked how the new flying levels looked, although there might not be much of a difference between these new ones and what's been in the series' past. It's been a while since I even played the Lego Star Wars games, but these new stages look really different.

 

I'd definitely agree with that. I'm really excited to see what new elements this game brings, even though I've been away from the series for a long time.

I'm fine with both options, just so long as they don't constrict me to a 2D plane and make me drag stupid goddamn bombs behind me to blow up shit that doesn't matter because I'm in a firetrucking spaceship and I SHOULD BE ABLE TO JUST FLY AROUND ANYTHING IN MY WAY- those were my least favorite levels from the original Lego Star Wars games.

That sounds like a good way to put it. It does look like there's a lot more space to move around in, which is amazing. As long as there's more freedom with the ship levels, I'll be happy. Less of the dumb bomb collection missions would be great, too.

I'm pretty confident that they can get enough content for a full game from just one movie; they did the same thing with The Lego Movie game, and that wasn't lacking in any way. Besides, they mentioned additional non-movie scenes and even showed a tiny bit of them in the trailer, so they have a bit more than just the one movie to work off. I'm not worried, in any case.

 

Also worth noting, I believe The Empire Strikes Back pack just adds more characters- there's also a Jabba's Palace pack that was quietly announced too, and I can't find any info on those adding actual new levels or anything. They've done similar things with Lego games in the past, I know for Lego Marvel they have an Asgard pack that unlocks Thor characters and a Super Pack that unlocks more heroes and some new vehicles and races. They could very well be adding new updated levels for the much updated engine Lego TFA looks to be using, but I don't want to bank on it.

You've got a point there and I'll give you that. I HATED the bomb drag segments. Doing away with those is something I can agree with.
