Dave 5,715 Posted March 12, 2016 I make no secret that Birth By Sleep is my least favorite game in the series (although DDD certainly makes a push for the title), given that it takes most of the things that I loved about Kingdom Hearts and turns it bass ackwards. However, I don't think it's true that there is nothing altogether that I liked in the game, and managed to find a few things which I do appreciate. 1. Haley as Vanitas. This is a bit of a strange one, considering that Vanitas is my least favorite character ever, but even so, listening to Haley do his voice is kind of neat, because it sounds like he's just having fun with the character. It sounds like he's allowed to go to a different place in his repertoire, and brings that energy with him to the scenes that he's in. 2. Braig. Braig's probably one of the most solid characters in the series, with a distinct, unique, and scene stealing personality, and the fact that he actually seems to be one of the few proactive people on Team Xehanort. Even with the mantra of Xehanort being to troll and do little as possible, Braig still manages to make his moments pulling the line as energetic and entertaining as they can be. He was a cool character in KH2, but with precious little screen time, and to bring him back into a more solid and important role in the overall plot was a good move. Not to mention that he's one of the few people who are willing to call Xehanort out on his bullshit, which I appreciate a great deal. 3. Even. Mostly because Vexen is my favorite Organization member, it was kind of cool to see Even wandering around, even if its for an incredibly brief cameo that doesn't lend itself to much. Still, though, we get one moment out of his screen time, in which he gets to comment on the peculiarity of Ven's heart, which kind of sets him up as important to the future. 4. Young Herc. This was probably the only real use of the prequel status of the game that was handled well, in my opinion. Hercules is one of the mainstay characters of Kingdom Hearts, making an appearance in most of the games, and getting to see how he started out was actually very heartwarming. Seeing him start out bumbling and awkward, but still managing to do the brave thing when it counts is what makes him an endearing and lovable character, and, in a way, retroactively sets up his arc for the entire series, showing us where he's come from and where he's going. 5. Being Tiny in Cinderella's House This was certainly the most imaginative use of the worlds at their disposal. Cinderella makes it clear that the mice have their own little system of operations, and getting to see things from their perspective was fun. Not to mention that I wholly enjoyed the fight with Lucifer, given that the cat is one of those villains from the movie who you just want to smack. 7 HeyMouseSayCheese, The Transcendent Key, Dracozombie and 4 others reacted to this
Dracozombie 4,554 Posted March 12, 2016 Funny thing with BBS is that I love TAV dearly, but if you ask me to critically analyze the characters' roles in the story, I go eeeehhhhhhhh... and stop right there before I ruin things for myself (I have more fun with them in gameplay... and fanfiction). Gameplay wise, BBS is probably my favorite in the series. I love the command deck and the unique styles of each character, and the abilities seem reminiscent of what keyblade wielders can really do if they know how. They feel like badasses without being overly-acrobatic and flashy like in DDD and even KH2. 6 AlixtheMagi13, PillowHead, Dave and 3 others reacted to this

Love the gameplay though! I also loved seeing the younger org members from back then too 3 AlixtheMagi13, Felixx and PillowHead reacted to this

The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted March 13, 2016 Birth By Sleep is possibly one of my favorite entries in the series, alongside Kingdom Hearts II and Dream Drop Distance! What I love most about Birth By Sleep is the fact that it's a prequel that sets up the foundation of the Xehanort Saga, and seeing Xehanort's introduction in general was definitely badass! He's an insane villain, and I just loved the role of puppetmaster he played during the game! Nimoy definitely nailed Xehanort's role perfectly! I also loved Vanitas, who is one of my favorite villains in the series! Haley did a great job as him, and I loved how evil he sounded! When I found out that Haley voiced Vanitas, I was like: "Wait, what? That is so cool!!!" (Ya, I know, he looks just like Sora, but still, hearing Haley talk evil threw me in for a loop, since I hadn't heard him talk like that before, lol. ) I also loved Terra, Aqua and Ventus! They were amazing characters that had pretty great arcs in the story of the game, and they all basically ended up being pawns in Xehanort's game! Also, I believe that Dorrhing and Holland did a great job voicing Terra and Aqua, respectively! To my ears, their voices sound pleasant, ya know? But yeah, I just loved all the nostalgic callbacks to the other games in the series, such as the Organization members before they joined the Organization, Maleficent, seeing Mickey train under Yen Sid, seeing Sora, Riku and Kairi as children, ya know, those little details! OOH, AND MARK HAMILL AS ERAQUS WAS FRACKIN AMAZING! Gotta give respect to Luke Skywalker/The Joker, ya know? But yeah, everything about the game, from its story to the gameplay was great! One of my most favorite scenes from the game is when Terra bequeaths the power of the Keyblade to Riku! That scene was very powerful, and I loved how it linked together the rest of the series, concerning Riku's character arc, ya know? It was such a feels-worthy moment to me! :') "Strength to protect what matters." A godly quote, if you ask me! Also, my favorite world was the Realm Of Darkness! My God, just tasting a bit of that world really made me admire Aqua all the more! That woman had to endure 10 years worth of Heartless! She's a trooper! But yeah, Birth By Sleep is amazing! 3 Syenyho, KeybladeLordCheeseCurd and Handsome_the_Wise reacted to this
Valhite 168 Posted March 13, 2016 It was one of the most epic story of kingdom hearts overall!. Here's why 1. It introduces the REAL plot of Kingdom Hearts. How it all began and how it all will possibly end 2. It introduces the most villainy villain in the story (baldy). 3. It introduces the most agonizing story of kingdom hearts when we think that sora had suffered enough, then came this trio barging in like "your pain worth nothing to us" and stir the saga into the EXACT PLOT! 4. The characters... they are much more developed rather than Sora screaming Riku there Riku here. Terra fighting the darkness, Ven in his adulthood, Aqua trying to put them all together. 5. Saddest story ever. More than Roxas or Sora story
Jermaine 79 Posted March 13, 2016 Since I also critically hate it, I will give the few things I liked as well. 1. Neverland and Olympus Colosseum. Neverland's my favorite disney world, and OC, has been done very well in every KH game in my opinion, and doesn't fall short here, especially with zach, and young herc. 2. Using the remaining princesses of hearts worlds. We haven't seen 3 princesses of heart have any depth at all, and it was a nice touch to put that in here. 3. Ven's theme is nice. 4. SOME background on radiant garden is nice, even though I dislike the way they did Radiant Garden. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anddd that's it. 1 Handsome_the_Wise reacted to this
