Valhite 168 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) I'm curious how you guys record your voice in video, or while singing a song, or do a cover song or whatever. I myself wanted to cover songs and share it here if it's allowed so you guys could give feedbacks to me but my equipment might not be good for recording (I have tried recording, it sucks). So I seek help to those Master of Recording anything. My equipment is 1. I record my cover via an application in PlayStore called SingPlay!. It's not that good but that's all I know 2. I have a Samsung S6. And an original headset from samsung with a mic on it. But I can't seem to find a good application that can play the music in Karaoke and me singing it while recording the voice 3. I have a Vaio Laptop but I don't use my laptop too much. 4. Do I need a Voice Dampener? Any suggestions and Help or even Advice would be really helpful. Since I wanted to start my youtube channel so badly but I can't seem to understand the record methods Once again, any help and advice or even suggestion would be really helpful. Thank you in advance Edited March 8, 2016 by Valhite
catmaster0116 2,676 Posted March 8, 2016 Hmm, invest in a condensor microphone I use a Audiotechnica USB studio consensor microphone (Which isn't that great despite the long name) Some of my youtuber vocalist acquaintances and Utaites use the Blue Yeti brand and others that i know went for fairly expensive mics But you just need something that works. try you local audio/music store if you're looking for a mic or buy online. As for mixing and messing with the sound, you'll need software which will let you manipulate sound (i.e. Audacity or Adobe Audition etc)
AzureAce 544 Posted March 8, 2016 With Audacity and a shitty webcam. Terrible and simple, but gets the job done.

Thank you in advance While I'm answering questions, I'll be asking questions as well. Let's start with the Samsung. 1. You're making a bad decision to just use Samsung Ear Buds with mic. Even if it captures your voice, it won't capture all frequencies quite well as microphones out there. 2. Your Vaio laptop. Do you use another computer, or is this laptop the only computer you use? Please give me specs. Processor and RAM storage as well as HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or SSD storage. (Solid State Drive). Depending on your answer helps me understand what software may be good for you. In audio world, we call those softwares "Digital Audio Workstations" or DAW (I.E. Pro tools, Ableton Live, Logic, Reaper, Cubase, etc) 3.I'm assuming you are calling a Pop Filter "Voice Dampaner". If you record yourself, and find the Bops, pops, and Sssss sounds intrusive, you may want to get a pop filter. You can always use Pantyhose as a cheap remedy solution. Weird, but it works somewhat. 4. Give me a set budget. If I decide to go crazy researching gear (I was a gear head. I need to get updated again), I would like to be able to know my limitations. Because, for best possible experience, you need a Microphone, an Audio Interface (converts sound into digital to go into the computer, while you can set Mic levels and output levels), Software, cables, and a stand. (and a Shock mount for condenser microphones). Can you describe your voice? is it bright, thin, dark, thick, open? Depending on the sound of your voice helps with microphone choices. I have you know that I'm a college student majoring for Sound Technology Specialization (AKA Audio engineering, recording engineering, producing etc.) Edited March 9, 2016 by Kaneki Ken 3 Valhite, Weedanort and catmaster0116 reacted to this

My Vaio SpecsProcessor : Core I5RAM:8GBHDD : 320GBIt is an old laptop. I'm looking to buy an Asus ROG gaming laptop, but it still waay in the future so I will use this Laptop3. That's a good suggestion but it's not what I looking for. I don't know what it is called but it looks like a black thing that placed in your wall, and it absorb sound or something like that, so the sound will stay in the room instead of spreading around the room. Like most youtubers have4. Maybe around 300$ ? I'm converting my country's currency to dollars. So it would be around that.I'm not entirely sure about my voice but I was a Tenor in my Choir Classes

For software, I would check out Reaper.I can't recall, but I hear it's supposedly really good for a free version, and upgrading for full features is $60. You could also check PreSonus Studio One Prime. That's free I think. 3. Ah. I gotcha. That gets pretty complicated and costly due to the nature of acoustics. You could try comforters to place at specific places in your room. Speaking of rooms, when you are recording, make sure the fan is off, and no sound is being picked up from the computer. Some people place the microphones in a different room. One more thing. You could look into Vocal shields or Microphone Isolation shields, but they can cost around 100 to 200 dollars. You may want to wait this one out. 3. Okay. You have a tenor voice, and you gave me a set budget. I'll do some research. I'll let you know what I've found when I'm finished. 1 Valhite reacted to this
Soul_Seeker 753 Posted March 10, 2016 I use Audacity to record my voice for any uses necessary. I bought an Audiotechnica ATR-1200 for $20 along with an Asus Xonar DG sound card for improved audio quality. The mic is good, it's recommended you get a pop filter and stand (this mic requires that your mouth be VERY close to it for it to be able to record your voice clearly). 1 Valhite reacted to this

Lady Aleister 1,677 Posted March 14, 2016 Audacity is free and I used it for a while. I did buy a $80 SONY microphone, and cheap microphones can be good as long as they don't have much feedback, white noise, etc. 1 Valhite reacted to this
