Riku's Story vs Sora's Story. CoM

Recommended Posts

Gameplay, definitely Riku. Storywise...I have to go with Sora, because Riku's worlds are so barren of anything that it detracts from the enjoyment for me. Otherwise, I'd go with Riku again.

Riku because I personally found it easier and it's the first time you can play as Riku

Riku's was better in all aspects. Better story, more challenging, often ball busting gameplay. I liked Riku's better.

Yeah but doesn't it get boring playing as Riku end game? I mean Riku is literally handed all of his weapons, sleights, abilities, partners, etc after you complete the 1st basement. I mean for me it was terrible level grinding with Riku with just his few moves.Anyway for me story-wise I'm going with Riku because acting angry, angsty, and playing the puppet/pawn to the whole Organization did appeal to me.Gameplay I'm giving it to Sora since there was more variety and it was harder to get bored with his gameplay.

While Sora's story was awesome, and while I did enjoy how Marluxia tried to make Sora his puppet against the Organization, I have to say that I loved Riku's story more! Because in this game, his journey of redemption started, and you could see how he was being tested at every turn, tempted by the darkness!  I think Riku had a very solid arc in Chain Of Memories, and it helped answer as to where he went after the first Kingdom Hearts, and how he and Mickey wound up being close friends, ya know?

But I also enjoy Sora's story because you get to see how he gets thrown into a loop, as Namine twists his memories around, blurring reality for him and his friends in the process!  I found his story most intriguing, and I loved all the moments the Organization showed up, especially Marluxia and Vexen! (See?  I'm indecisive!  I can't choose just one thing!  But yeah, Riku's story is da boss!)

Gameplay wise, I liked Sora's gameplay style better.  While Riku had his badass Dark Mode, he only had a few Sleight Attacks, whereas Sora had quite an arsenal to draw from, such as Tornado, Sonic Rave, Reflect Raid, (Which is my personal favorite!) Ars Arcanum, etc.  While both played good, I preferred Sora more, since he had more attack variety! :3

EXACTLY! Riku's gameplay was cool in the beginning since he didn't play like Sora and he was given so many sleights at the start. However, he gets old late game since:

  • He can't learn any new sleights/ablities
  • You can only heal with King Mickey card
  • Can't customize your deck.
  • Only one weapon (or in this case just Soul Eater card).

So basically early game he was cool at the start but dull at the end. Sora on the other hand kept getting interesting game play wise the more floors you went up.

Really enjoyed the contrast between Sora's side, and Riku's side in both story and gameplay. Really allowed for a freshness, one of the reasons I really like this game.

Riku's combat is fun, but it's a bit more broken, and less time was spent on it. Sora's gameplay is pretty balanced, and fun to build, while having to actually sacrifice what you want to put in your deck. Also enjoyed Sora's boss battles more.

As for Story, I prefered Riku's because it was the path to redemption, and was done really well IMO. Especially his friendship with Mickey. I know the disney worlds are barren, but I actually liked the way that the highlighted important worlds and gave them story (Huge story) such as HB, Destiny Islands, and Twilight Town.
