Career In the Military

Recommended Posts

I don't plan on joining but I take great interest in things regarding the military. If you plan on joining and need advice with signing up for the military and the brutal training that is to come I can give some advice.

The only time I'd ever join the military is if we were in a massive war and we didn't have enough troops. And right now we have plenty of soldiers. The US army is one of the largest and most powerful in the world and has been since WWII =)

Who wants to go into a war and kill people?

Thats how i feel about the army and war it's almost a waste.

I want to join because it's not actually just over political debates. A lot of times when our soldiers go in, they're not going just to find and kill all of the bad guys. Oftentimes it's to protect and help the good people there, and help them get a government system going. Yes, we do go to defeat bad guys, too, but that's not ALL of what the military does. And we don't always just march into other countries for no reason--we do so because they NEED us. Some wars we HAVE to fight, too. For instance: the Revolutionary War. How else would the colonies have won their independance from Britian and become America? Easy--we wouldn't. The War of 1812. The British wanted back all of their colonies. Well we couldn't just let them take over us! The Civil War. That's the main reason slavery was abolished, and other unfair rulings. I could go on and on. I know everything about this stuff xD But I suppose no matter how long I rant none of you will change your minds. Oh, well. I'm still going, either as a marine or fighter pilot.

Your best bet is to be a pilot considering the Airforce is the safest branch of the military.

.. A discussion is a discussion.

I find it funny how people around here are afraid of them.

And that's what we usually say, That America tries to be the worlds so called "Hero", trying to defend everyone.

I wouldn't say America is trying to defend everyone, they're just trying to get on good terms with other countries for their own advantage. That's how I see it anyways, and I'm American. I seriously think America should just stop butting into other countries for no reason (like Iraq).

It's like World War II, America had no real reason to be in it, they just joined in to have a say in the outcome. Plus, America didn't join the war until the near-end, when all the other countries were worn out from fighting. Then once the war was over, America proclaimed itself as the victor. In my eyes, Russia won the war, they did most of the fighting, and lost way more soldiers than the other countries.

But no, I have no plans for going into the military. My family had a hard enough time accepting the fact my brother went to go train for the army. It was especially hard on my parents, they don't want to see the day that my brother comes back to America in a body bag. My brother said he was doing his duty to protect his country. I think he just wants to be some kind of hero. Like my parents, I don't like what he chose to do with his life. He's smart, and could've done so much more without having to fight and risking his life. I don't even think I could harm someone physically, I get squeamish around the sight of blood. So I doubt I could be on the battlefield.

Safety doesn't mean much to me. I have my dad's same hero complex. Whichever gives me the best chance to help people is probably what I'll take. Wow, I just realized how cheesy that sounds xD Still..

America join WWII cause Japan attack them.

Why did Japan attack America? To invade them? To block off trade, or contact with any other countries? Or to just bomb them to smithereens? No, just to end relations with the US, and continue invading China and raping the women and tying up the civilians then using them as target practice. In no way was Japan planning on invading America, as they were China.

The countries that were fighting World War II (and had real reason to) were the ones whose land was being threatened/invaded/attacked by Germany, Japan, or Italy. America was trying to stay isolated from that all, but eventually caved in with being neutral with giving goods to Britain, who gave them money in return, through the Lend-Lease Acts. In no way was Germany, the head of it all, trying to gain control of America at that time. Sure, Germany's U-boats attacked America's trade ships, but that was to keep them from helping England.

When America joined the war, it wasn't even fair to the Axis Powers. Going completely against the rules of a just war, they went straight to Total War tactics. What I didn't know about until last year was an attack America made on an innocent town in Germany. I forgot the name, but I remembered what happened. Bomber pilots was ordered by the America military to bomb the town, creating a tornado of fire. People were burned alive, innocent people. And when the ones who were left alive thought the bombing was over a few hours later, the pilots bombed them again without warning! This town had no importance what-so-ever, it was just so America could destroy the Nazis.

But, since America wasn't being invaded by the Axis Powers in their conquest for power, they should've stayed neutral. But no, they wanted to have control over a piece of post-WWII Berlin, and to have "earned" a right to say what happened in the Nuremberg Trials. So in my opinion, I see no real reason for America joining World War II.

So it's acceptable to end relations with a country by destroying their navy and killing military men and civilians alike? They had everything that was coming to them. Do you honestly expect the US to not take military action against such an attack? Bombing ships of a country is an act of war. Therefore fighting Japan was acceptable.

Same with Germany, they were attacking our ships and our allies. Many of the U-Boat attacks were on civilian vessels. Many of which did not carry military cargo. They should have learned not to randomly fire at ships after we kicked their asses for sinking the Lusitania (a mere passenger ship) and killing over 100 American civilians. Just because Japan and Nazi Germany had no intention to invade us doesn't mean we can just let them destroy our ships! Plus we didn't officially declare war on Germany. They officially declared war on us.

There was very little Total War with the Americans. Mistakes do happen, Intel is off, and people sometimes get out of hand. EVERY army in history has assaulted a civilian settlement by accident on multiple occasions.

Actually we only controlled about 1/6 of Berlin, the rest of the NATO side was owned by the French and British and the USSR controlled the other half. And it's a good thing we occupied that half too, otherwise the Soviets would have taken over the entire city and violate the rights of ever more people. Evidence of this is when the Soviets attempted to starve west Berlin in an attempt to force them to surrender to the East.

And we didn't want to go to war until Pearl Harbor. Our allies were asking for our help before we were attacked just like in WWI. And they couldn't have done it without us. France got owned and Great Britain didn't have the supplies or the man power to retake Europe. The USSR needed our help as well. Hitler was owning the Soviets on the Eastern front. However he got over confident and withdrew too many troops to fight on the Western Front because of our success on D-day. If the US never joined the war, Russia would be speaking German.

And who is to say that they never would have invaded the US? The Axis wanted complete control of the world and to eliminate those they deem inferior. Hitler always hated America and Japan got a lot of influence from this. The Axis had to be stopped and America needed to join in order for this to happen.

But the USA not only destroyed Japan's military, they destroyed a country, killed civilians that never had anything to do with the war. For me there is no reason when a country attacks the other one, since not only the culprits will be involved, there will always be casualityes and the ones to fight aren't those stupid guys on the government, it's the people, the real culprits will stay hidden and safe untill everything have ended. War is a waist of money and time, ending millions of lives for a stupid cause that could be solved through other ways, they can say whatever they want, there is no reason for it. That's why I find it stupid to join the military, but here in Brazil young men have no choice, every men who reachs 18 has to join the military.

Japan adopted the three 'alls' policy, which was kind of asking for it. (Something like kill all, steal all, burn all) They had the kamikaze pilots, and sent letters in the mail TELLING people to 'get rid' of themselves. They went a little crazy. So techinically the US could use any means nessecary to beat them. And we didn't use fifty million atomic bombs. The ones we did were devastating and awful, but we weren't COMPLETELY horrible fighting them.

The Japanese killed millions of chinese and pacific islanders. .

War is a waste but it is part of what makes us human. Humans have a lust for violence deep within our genes. It is part of our natural instinct to survive at all cost. Humans will keep fighting until the next evolution of Human's come by. Hopefully these creatures will be able to solve their problems peacefully. However until then, the human race will always be at war with something.

@fredfredbug4

I wouldn't say war is in our genes. I think it depends on who you are as a person, which would mean it's different for everyone. Yes, I want to be in the military, but what I'll have to do doesn't exactly appeal to me. While, for instance, you see crazy serial killers on t.v. who love the idea of it. Complete opposites. Some people are very tempermental, like one of my brothers, and will get angry at the slightest thing. Others are very calm and very rarely lost their temper, like the other twin. (Off-topic: I love how they look exactly alike but are nothing alike xD But, back on-topic...) War depends on who's starting it--who the president is, for instance. It doesn't nessecarily imply that EVERY human loves to fight. The Cold War: The Hawks and the Doves. Half the country wanted peace, the other half wanted war. It depends on the human, not the race in general.

Eh, we have grown out of violence a tiny bit. We are emotionally scared when seeing killings in person now unlike we were back in the time of roam.

Every person is different when it comes to this like you said. However most of the people rallying for peace have never had their lives in danger. When the lead starts flying, and everything is turning into craters, those ancient survival instincts will kick in. Part of these instincts is the willingness to kill or hurt those that threaten their survival.

All living things exist for one purpose and that is to survive. Even the life of a human revolves around survival, morning, afternoon, and night are separated by the meals we need for nutrition. We buy things to entertain ourselves or we will be driven mad by boredom. And we create weapons to defend ourselves if necessary.

I agree with almost everything you said, however no matter how benevolent a person, they can and will be violent when necessary.
