Aqua7KH 5,395 Posted February 26, 2016 Okay guys as you know I'm making a KH video. I have a problem. The video has words in it and obviously it's written using a font.I'm worried that the font I use (which is Comic Sans MS) will get me into legal trouble because the font is copyrighted (?)Yes, I am saying this right. I learned (last year from a comic book creator) that you have to be careful when using fonts because you actually have to purchase the rights to use them which is firetrucking stupid.I've read that apparently you could use some fonts freely for commercial use if they're open licensed? Thing is, I have no clue what is open and what's not. I was hoping you guys could help me and give me some advise so that way my channel won't be taken down in the future for something as firetrucking stupid as a firetrucking font. (If you haven't noticed by my usage of firetrucking, I'm pretty pissed over this.)
- Existic - 206 Posted February 26, 2016 I've never seen anyone get into trouble for using a certain font. Ever. The fonts in the movie maker you're using should be free to use as you see fit. A font you would of actually had to buy and add to your computer is probably the only thing with a copyright (which I've also never seen, but could still be out there). I think you'll be safe. 2 Hargleblargleboo and Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) reacted to this
KHUndertaleFan25 2,858 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Sans? Where?! *realizes what you meant and facepalms* Sorry about that... (Sans is a character from the game Undertale and is named after the font comic sans. Which is why I flipped out.) Hargleblargleboo 979 Posted February 26, 2016 Uhhh... No. It shouldn't be. If it were, the corp that owns it has no real purpose or life. I'm sure Comic Sans is like, public domain.
Paranoia 494 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Since Comic Sans MS is a standard font that is installed on every version of Windows (assuming that's the operating system you use), that gives you the licensing right to do with it as you please, because when you buy the version of Windows or a computer pre-installed with Windows, you are essentially buying the licensing rights for anything that comes with it. A company will never claim copyright on stock Windows assets. They will never take down a video because you used Windows. Unless you try to resell assets, claiming it as your own production.
