Exiblade7 1,917 Posted February 23, 2016 (edited) I can't even say that in video games that I think that story and gameplay should be equal except that video games that don't a story to be good without getting bashed and people saying "gameplay is the ONLY thing that makes a video game. If you want story, watch a movie *sighs*.At the end, people have opinions and people should try to respect them as much as possible.NOT complaining, just something I noticed on miiverse Edited February 23, 2016 by Zeldablade7 10 The Transcendent Key, AnHeiressofaSOLDIER, XionRoxasSora and 7 others reacted to this

Movies798 1,358 Posted February 24, 2016 I like videogames with a good story and fun gameplay. Especially story because if the story is interesting then I'm all in. 4 Exiblade7, supermegaroxas, Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) and 1 other reacted to this
Firaga 5,947 Posted February 24, 2016 People play games for gameplay, not story. Even if there is a story and it's complete shit, people can easily forgive it if the gameplay is solid. 1 Shulk reacted to this

Ever heard of the tales of zestiria. It's GOING to get an anime proofing that the gameplay isn't the only thing that makes a game in my opinion. In my opinion, some video games are good without it having a good story or no story at all and some video games are good just because the story is good, like the walking dead by telltale game series. in my opinion, most rpgs can be good both storywise and gameplay wise. I guess so, because most games have gameplay and story in them but some games don't rely on gameplay so much, like the telltale game series. There is barely any gameplay, but the storylines and characters are pretty good, therefore, it is NOT a requirement for all video games to have good gameplay in order to be good in my opinion. XionRoxasSora 239 Posted February 24, 2016 The reason I love Kingdom Hearts SOOO DAMN MUCH is mainly for it's story. For example, when I play games I ultimately play for story but gameplay adds to the experience. Plus I'm a reader (I know a shocker) and when I read books there is no illustration just words, so I'm pretty much used to the aspect of "story" itself. Did that make any sense? 5 KHUndertaleFan25, Movies798, Joker and 2 others reacted to this
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted February 24, 2016 Well Zeldablade, people come in all shapes and sizes and colors! They're like ice cream! Ice cream comes in different flavors, shapes and scoops, but in the end, we all love gaming, right? Just so happens there's some people that don't give a dime for story in games. Personally, I'm not one of those people. I, for one, love story in video games as much as the next guy! I'm the kind of guy that thinks a good story should come bundled up with good gameplay! And if there's a game that has lame gameplay, if the story is good, I'll stick around because of the story, ya know? But yeah, I think video games have come a long way in terms of storytelling, and in video games, you can find some of the best stories in media! Kingdom Hearts being one of 'em! So yeah, I share your opinion on liking games with good stories! I just don't understand why some gamers have to be so rude and be mean to gamers who like story in video games, ya know? But yeah, I've got a plan for that! You see, I've got a reputation as a mercenary, and I can get any job done! Zeldablade, if you want, point me out to those people that bash on gamers who like story in video games! I'll be sure to pay 'em a lovely visit and offer 'em a piece of my mind...heh, I can actually give 'em a piece of my mind, and they'll freak out and possibly pass out! Heh, that's one of the perks of being me! Good ol Deadpool gets the job done! 3 KHUndertaleFan25, Movies798 and Exiblade7 reacted to this
atheist123 583 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) A great game can have next to no story (DOTA 2, Hearthstone, etc) but a great game can't have next to no gameplay imo. Walking simulators such as Gone Home shouldn't be considered a game. They have more in common with Visual Novels (which aren't games).I think the best games have a balance of both, but I think gameplay is more necessary since without it you just have a visual novel or an interactive movie. MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted February 24, 2016 You can like a game for it's story but if the gameplay is crap you'll likely not play it, even if the story is extremely good. 2 Exiblade7 and atheist123 reacted to this
Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) 3,859 Posted February 24, 2016 (edited) A game needs gameplay, but it doesn't need a story. However, the best games are those that achieve both (at least in my opinion). I've read how you say that Telltale games are story driven. Yes, that's true, they're story driven, but if it wasn't for its gameplay and the players decisions it wouldn't have gone anywhere if you see what I mean. I guess. most people would say that the story is like the spice that makes the game even better, which I kinda agree with by the way. When I was playing tales of the abyss, I played it mostly for its story. When I played the game for a second time, I played it for so for its gameplay. The story in tales of the abyss encouraged me to play and beat the game. 1 Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) reacted to this
xxClouDxxmoon 901 Posted February 24, 2016 I love both. I lean more towards the story side (hence why KH is my fav series) but great/fun gameplay can make up for bad storyline. 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
