Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted February 14, 2016 (edited) Happy Valentines Day yall! I was wondering what would be appropriate to post in honor of the day, and that's when I thought back to how lately I've been in a bit of a renewed Codename: Kids Next Door fix. Now if you know it as well as I do, I know that the Numbuh 3/Numbuh 4 pairing is probably the most popular pairing out of the whole fanbase, and they were quite possibly the first couple I ever really shipped. I mean, yeah a lot of us already had clear couples like Mickey/Minnie Mouse and countless other Disney pairings, but this was like the first pairing I ever came across as a kid where it wasn't just handed to me on a silver platter. And as much as it is promised at the end of the show that they did eventually get together, you still never get to see that kind of romance blossom. In a lot of ways it was up to my imagination, and it fascinated me to no end as a kid. Since then shipping was like as normal of a fan thing for me to do as it is today, but as KND was such a pivotal milestone in my life of influences that pairing proves to be just as important to me. And that's kind of what I mean by "gateway ships", pairings that you've encountered that probably introduced you to the idea of shipping in the first place. Essentially your "first love" in terms of pairing characters up. I'll be a bit loose with what qualifies since even though it is an "official" pairing, I still think things like Mickey/Minnie count since there's still plenty of reasons given why they work together and they aren't always portrayed being in the middle of a relationship right off the bat. So long as you feel like it introduced you to the idea of shipping and pairing characters together for the first time, it's all fair game. However, ONE exception I will make are crack shippings, in this case shippings that involve characters from separate franchises that have had no history of ever interacting with each other. Things like Jack Frost/Elsa I don't feel are as convincing as there is never an opportunity where you get to actually witness their personalities interact off of each other and any idea of how two characters like that are around each other is purely speculative. BUT, if you really want to and you have a strong argument, such as something like Jenny X-J9/Mega Man introduced you to the idea of shipping IN GENERAL (in-canon, crack, or otherwise), then I guess it's acceptable. I mean, I really have no control over how this goes anyway, I'm just kind of laying out the guidelines of what I'm specifically looking for. If you feel like I'm throwing a bit of a bias in here then you can go ahead and list whatever you want, I just wanted to give a clear idea of what I'm talking about. But things like M/F, M/M, F/F, etc are fine, so long as they stay within the guidelines. But anyway enough expositing. Who are your Gateway Ships/"First Love Pairings"? Mine obviously was Numbuh 4/Numbuh 3 (or Wally/Kuki alternatively), as it really was the first pairing I ever came across where really I had to connect the dots myself rather than the show just giving me everything I was asking about. Before this I would have just crack-shipped Numbuh 4 with Buttercup from PPG beacase....tough characters? I don't know, point is once I realized that 3/4 was a thing I abandoned that short-lived boat and set sail on what would continue to be my numbuh one ship (ha!) to this day. It also kind of showed me that two characters don't necessarily have to be too similar to each other in order to work out, and it really made me fall in love with concepts such as "childhood romances" and "opposites attract", even though they never factored into my own love life that much. Oh yeah, feel free to attach pics too if you want! Edited February 14, 2016 by Hero of Light XIV

mag77 405 Posted February 14, 2016 You know its weird. There are so many ships I love, but I can't for the life of me remember what my first ship was. Seriously, I'm racking my brain right now as I type this, but I still can't remember!
Veemon 1,540 Posted February 14, 2016 My mind wasn't really designed to choose pairing or relationship. However, I still would rather see this shipping idea of Veemon and Biyomon. Then again, what do I know? Their reactions just match up so well here. I think there's a possibility for them here...
Hargleblargleboo 979 Posted February 15, 2016 It wasn't two people for me. It was the classic PB+J. Yum yum. But in all seriousness, It was Zero and Yuki from Vampire Knight because I was weeaboo garbage back then. ICK. EW. PURGE. PURRRRGE!! THIS IS WEEB GARBAGE!! I don't ship them now because the anime was complete trash, and not the good kind. 1 Hero of Light XIV reacted to this
