Sonic The HedgeHog Movie Confirmed For 2018

Source: http://mynintendonews.com/2016/02/10/sonic-the-hedgehog-movie-confirmed-for-2018/  Well this seems interesting. Although I am very skeptical of this movie because of the fact it will mix live-action with cartoon animation (Or CGI animation). If there's one thing I hate about Hollywood, is that they put live action stuff into animation cartoon/video game series because it usually never works. Or at least in my opinion.

No, no, no! It's all messed up now... We already had the Sonic Movie from a long time ago. We don't need another one. This is one of the things I believe most Sonic fans desire:Focus. On. The games.Sonic Boom? Yeah, they probably were working on the games and the cartoon at the same time. Hence the poor quality of the games. And even if they weren't, they didn't give themselves the time to finish their games. Just saying, I want to continue to love the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but they need to take their time. Just like the post I made on the last Sonic-related thread. :/

I completely agree with you. They really need to take their time with Sonic. I know they recently stated that they will in an article. But it still feels like they're rushing their Sonic games.

I'm not going out of my way to say it'll be a success, but I'm also not going to call it an absolute failure this early, seeing as we know almost nothing about the movie, or the director behind it.

I'll wait and see as more information eventually develops instead of jumping to conclusions.

To be honest I'm excited for this movie. Not because I really want to watch it or anything but I'm interested in what it might bring to the table.

Is it going to end up being a massive hit and actually entertaining? Or just flop like most people think it will and ruin Sonic further?

Anyways we know nothing about the movie or the plot yet so I'm going to stay optimistic. As long as Sonic isn't kissing a girl with weirdly tanned legs I can give it a chance. You never know we could all be surprised.

According to Van Robichaux, anyone who is worried that the movie will be like The Smurfs or Garfield will be "very pleasantly surprised".

I'm still real excited about this movie, I have been ever since it was first announced.

I hope they focus more on Sonic and his friends and focus more on the story because I don't want this live-action movie to another Transformers series, where they have unnecessary annoying human characters, lots of explosions, too much human drama, and less and less screen time of the true main characters of the series. I hope it won't be like Sonic X when they add that human character Chris, can't stand him and Tails is Sonic's best friend not Chris. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles should be the main characters with Amy as the side character or don't add her at all. I hope they don't add a main human character because that will be a distraction, because I don't want to see a human character joining Sonic and his friends during their adventures just to "engaged the audience", then all of sudden the human character gets kidnapped by Eggman and Sonic and his friends have to save him and save the world. God I hope they know what they are doing with this series because I love the Sonic games because I love Shadow, Sonic, and the rest of characters, and I love the whole running real fast across the obstacles in the games.

Well this seems interesting. Although I am very skeptical of this movie because of the fact it will mix live-action with cartoon animation (Or CGI animation). If there's one thing I hate about Hollywood, is that they put live action stuff into animation cartoon/video game series because it usually never works. Or at least in my opinion.

To be fair the biggest problem hybrid films have always had in the past was poor writing, acting, and casting choices. To me a movie works a lot like how some people view video games. Those people will tend to agree that when it comes to the main elements of a video game, the gameplay, story, music, and graphics, the gameplay tends to get the highest amount of significance, which makes sense since the whole point of a video game is to have fun playing it. All other aspects can be just as important, but the gameplay should always be the first thing considered. For movies on the other hand, if you consider it's main components being the story, cinematography, special effects, acting, and occasionally the cast and director, the main aspect that should ALWAYS be considered regardless of artistic taste or genre is in fact the story. The whole point of a movie is to tell a story, so to have a movie where something looks amazing or has a lot of cool effects but has a weak or overly predictable premise is about the same thing as having a video game with great music, gorgeous graphics, and maybe even a compelling story but with terrible controls and dodgy or down right glitchy gameplay.

The story of a movie should always be considered first before any other factors are decided, and usually the content of the story will then lead to the bigger decisions later on in production. Avatar was a huge success and it was about as much of a CG/live action hybrid as a movie can get. The story was well considered early in advance, and while it is likely that the decision to make it largely CG was decided right from the get-go, they still gave the story just as much attention and detail while perfecting the effects. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Smurfs on the other hand were both big flops, yet they still used the same kind of technology that made Avatar so great. It's not that the effects on the characters were terrible, they were pretty decent as far as CG re-representations of originally 2D cartoons go. The real flaw was that the premises and stories behind all of their movies were poorly written and very predictable. Not only that but a lot of the acting and cast choice was a bit poor, and characters are probably the second most important thing in a movie after the story itself. Without properly convincing and likable characters the story doesn't have much ground to stand on, which make actors just as important as they give the characters life and personality, and often times a connection between the viewer and the story.

Movies of any medium, animated, CG, or live-action, that fail to successfully achieve any of these important factors are doomed to have a terrible movie, no matter how interesting it is shot or how amazing the special effects are. So with that said, what style the Sonic movie is made in does not concern me, it's probably the least of my worries and frankly it should be the same for everyone else here. The main concern should be directed towards how well the story is written and who is selected to portray the characters to make it enjoyable and how well they do it. The sheer fact that it is going to be a CG/live-action movie does NOT guarantee this movie will be a disaster. CG/live-action films tend to get a bad rap mostly because so many companies who attempt this keep making the same mistakes over and over again, focusing too much on how well the character matches up to the environment and not giving any time or attention devoted towards making sure the story is at least decent.

There are plenty of movies that have combined mediums together that have been successful because the quality of the writing matched the quality of their effects, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a perfect example of how well such a concept can be taken if given the correct amount of effort. And again, there is Avatar. If the Sonic movie has a great story and an entertaining cast of actors portraying the main characters that makes the story even better, then I could care less whether the movie is pure CG or a hybrid. I mean, don't get me wrong, if the tried to make a TMNT suit of Sonic and just had that be the movie THEN I would have a problem, there are still ways to go too far with that.

But my point is that the style the movie will be in should not be what ultimately decides it's fate. Everyone keeps saying that this movie is going to bomb because of the fact that it's going to be a hybrid alone, but that's literally the same thing as saying that the next Legend of Zelda game won't be fun because it doesn't look "realistic" enough. The appearance of a film can matter, but until I see some actual footage to convince me of whether or not I should be afraid of seeing a CG Sonic stand next to a filmed human being, I'm just going to keep waiting until I hear who's writing for it before I start making predictions about how screwed or hyped we should feel.

Not sure why they are making a movie based on a gaming series that has a simple story.

That is one thing I am still curious about. The first Sonic the Hedgehog movie was apparently based on some classic Sonic manga or comic or something. In those books, there was no Amy Rose, and it wasn't the series with Sally and Antoine and those other characters. Instead, it was a series that took place on Mobius, but it had a few humans other than Dr. Robotnik. The president, his Daughter, and a few others. In the movie, it was Sonic vs Metal Sonic. And ironically, there was no Super Sonic and no Chaos Emeralds. It's a fun classic movie if you ever feel the need for something hilarious and yet very deep. (Yes, it is deeper than people believe.)
